No one, not after the awful reviews I got of the Modest Mouse show there. Indecipherable sound, inaudible lyrics, sounds like the kinds of things that made me hate Cricket Wireless Amphitheater in San Diego. Too bad SY couldn't have just played SF instead, damnit.

To be fair, though, that could have been entirely Modest Mouse's fault.

I think everytime I have seen Modest Mouse they have had tremendous sound issues at the beginning of their set. You can't chastize a venue for having god awful sound unless you have actually been their buddy. Give the Fox a shot, I'd really like to know how it is, because it looks awfully gorgeous.

Don't worry, I'm sure they will announce one shortly. Hopefully it's not a big venue because they sucked ass at the Greek a couple years back, I would assume they play The Wiltern or The Palladium being that most of the shows on this particular tour are in smaller theaters.

Sounds like a typical Modest Mouse show. I've seen Modest Mouse at least 10 times and that describes a lot of their shows, no matter the venue. Good job attempting to trash a venue you've never even been to.

I've heard nothing but great things about The Fox.

still TBA but yeah... come on already the anxiety is killing me! The Greek did suck... they're so much better in a smaller venue. The Palladium would be fun but I saw them once at the theater on the VA site in West LA (name escapes me) but it was pretty much perfect. They were great in the Wilshire theater too. I wonder who they'll have accompanying them?

Nobody knows how upset I was this morning when I saw no LA date. They have a five day gap between Oakland and Japan...And I echo bmack by reminding everyone (ie: myself) that Kim is FROM LA and it would be beyond retarded to ignore one of the biggest metropolitan areas in the US. i'm attributing it to venue mumbo jumbo.

plus, that gap means they'll be hanging out around LA like they did in feb. maybe two shows? maybe a mirror/dash show? maybe maybe maybe?

speaking of venues....i love the palladium, but you have to get there BALLS EARLY to get a good spot. i prefer the wiltern because, if you have lower seats, you can get to the stage no problem, no matter how late you get there---just get there at a decent time for a wristband. i was thinking they'd do the SMC like MBV did...but my ideal venue would be the Troubadour. (HA HA HA DREAM ON, KAT.)

if all else fails, my boyfriend and i decided we'd go see them in his hometown of philadelphia instead.

04-27-2009, 02:26 PM
I would do anything for a Wiltern date, I could see that being one of the best shows of the year for me...

Either way I'm sure I'll be seeing them this year, I'm sad that this means no headlining Pitchfork Festival (which I was predicting) but I'm more than likely going to Austin City Limits anyway... add that to an inevitable LA date and I'm more than satisfied.

I've seen this amazing band 10 times...

Veteran's Theater in West LA 98ish
This ain't no picnic in So-Cal 98ish
Like some Wilshire Theater in LA 99ish
El Rey Theater - Murray Street
UCLA - All Tomorrows Parties
Wiltern - Rather Ripped
Jimmy Kimmel Live - Rather Ripped
Coachella 07 - Indio, California
Hurricane Festival 07 - Scheessel Germany
Daydream Nation tour 07 - Greek Theater

By far my faves were that Veteran's Theater, Wilshire Theater and the El Rey. The Wiltern was 'ok' but these more intimate 'fancier' theaters suit them sooooo well. As a side, I met and talked to Thurston backstage at the Kimmel performance and he signed my 100% 7" and I almost passed out after that. But yeah... no Greek Theater ever again please.

Regarding the discussion from yesterday about the Fox Theater, I found out what the deal is... Apparently they are still shopping around for a sound system, so they don't have a proper one installed yet. I guess the concerns expressed about the sound weren't so unfounded.

Don't worry, kitt kat, they blew off Massachusetts totally as well which is weird since they're living in Northampton, MA. From what I've come to get used to with SY is that they like to get the European and odd dates out of the way during the summer because Coco goes back to school in autumn, and they'll play shows that are less a trouble to get to at that time. I expect an LA date since its a major major city alongside a better NYC date and anyone else more local to their current home like MA to come around in September or October.

I just saw this and it goes hand in hand with my theory that SY want to play dates they're more familiar with (aka I bet Kim and Lee have some friends/family to visit in LA when they gets out there and when they add an MA date, it'll be close to home in Northampton, MA)

Silver Rocket for sure....the rest? prob not....have u seen the current setlists?

dorkfish
08-03-2009, 05:28 PM
Yeah, they've played Silver Rocket once in the last 10 shows, and like to do Cross the Breeze > The Sprawl for an encore every other show or so. They've been mixing it up a lot, though, so I really have no clue what they'll play.

kitt kat
08-03-2009, 06:06 PM
I'm going to the LA and Pomona shows hoping to get a good mix of songs. Dorkfish is right---the setlists are really all over the place.

Ideally, I'd love me some deep cuts (which they've been playing...) but I'll be happy if I got Expressway to Yr Skull, Hey Joni, The Sprawl and Death Valley 69. for sure. Can't believe they've been playing Tom Violence at nearly every show. Badass.

Ah, but I'd love a KG song-only show. Star Power, Brave Men Run, Swimsuit Issue, My Friend Goo, etc etc etc.

kitt kat
08-03-2009, 06:08 PM

Wow. WTF is up with songs 1-13? I hope some 86-91 era songs get inserted amongst all the Eternal songs. I don't like those songs as much, in retrospect; they all blend together for me. That setlist kinda blows in comparison to others I've seen---no Hey Joni, no Catholic Block, no Sprawl.

Encores are solid. I want Expressway so bad.

A few of the new songs translate really well live. Anti-Orgasm is pretty insane. The only new song that I didn't really enjoy was Antenna.
