For those of you who have not seen this movie i suggest you watch it. It is called America: freedom to facism and effectivly it proves that there is no law anywhere requiring american citizens to pay income taxes, the Irs refuses to address it but former agents in the film state that since they resigned they have never filed income tax and never been punished. There is no law!

Yeah, I think we should just stop paying taxes entirely. We really don't need anyone regulating the safety of our food or water. We don't need freeways, we don't need Head Start, or AmeriCorp.

I don't like that 25% of my taxes (if not more) is going to the military for the short-sighted and inhumane actions of our president, but that doesn't mean I want to sacrifice the money that's going to important services wiped out too.

They should just tax goods and services and stop taxing income. Then we wouldn't be such crazy consumers.

Sales tax is one of the most regressive taxes of them all. Luxury item taxes? That's a different story.

That would be regressive taxation. The rich would pay a lower % of income than the middle class.

for example if the tax rate is 10% of what you spend on goods & services:

Rich guy: earns $1m per year, spends $500,000, saves $500,000 -- tax is $50,000, or 5% of earnings.

Middle income guy: earns $60,000 per year, spends $58,000, saves $2,000 -- tax is $5800 or 9.7%

Yablonowitz is such a sensitive, new age guy.

But his well-meaning ideas don't go far enough!

Don't just tax luxury items. We should tax the hell out of ANYTHING that the typical poor person can't afford.

Example:

Where do you selfish assholes get off eating at fine steakhouses and laying down in excess of $50 for a Porterhouse, when that money could feed a family in the ghetto for 2 weeks?! (And let's not even talk about Africa, where hunger could virtually be wiped out for $50!)

My idea: Tax any single item of food that costs more than $15 (allowing the po' folk to still order anything on the menu at Denny's tax-free -- even the prime-rib), and use the proceeds to hand out gift certificates to the needy. These certificates will be good at McDonald's, Popeye's Chicken, or the Ramen section of the supermarket (for budget eaters who might want to save up for a big screen TV!)

You snobs will still have your steaks, except now it will cost $70 instead of $50. Big deal! Like your parents can't afford that! And nobody in this country will ever go wanting for two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame-seed bun!

No wonder Yablo feels so proud and uppity to be a liberal! I feel better already after making this post.

Fuck you buddy. How much money do you give to charity? Those poor people can go to school, work hard, get a job, work hard, make money, save money, and spend money like the rest of us. Its not my fucking fault they are poor. I already pay out the ass in taxes to support people who dont deserve it.

Example: My girlfriends sister-in-law has had 3 kids in 3 fucking years (Ages 3, 2, 1). And her husband works his ass off to support his family. Her kids wear tattered clothes while she goes out and buys a $300 cellphone. She is on welfare and yet wont do any of the things that welfare requires you to do to stay on welfare (e.g. apply for jobs and go to school). She is content to milk the welfare system (and even after she defrauded welfare for thousands of dollars she STILL gets welfare). SO fuck you and your poor people. They dont need any more of my hard earned money.

I just have to point out that taxes are a socialist idea by nature. The individual giving up some of his earnings for the good of the society.

Refusal to pay taxes is as far from communist as you can get. Infact its what the US was founded on. (cause of revolution, lack of income tax in constitution)

Yeah some taxes are a good thing to pay for highways, food and drug regulation, national defense (NOT IMPERIALISTIC WARS), etc. But thats what, 25% of our current taxes? (just a guess, correct me if im wrong)

I know we are spending ourselves way into debt and destroying the dollar on Iraq, not to mention all our forces and bases deployed throughout the world that arent necessary for defense. What happens when we stretch ourselves too thin and get too much of the world pissed off at us? Ever hear of that empire back in the day called rome??

While im on the rome analogy let me point out that TV=Colloseums everyday all day with built in propoganda!

Hmm. this turned into a rant haha. I love America, it is the best thing the human race has ever managed to create, but its being undermined and Im afraid to think what the world will become if we dont wake up and start protecting our freedom and soverignty from the real threats.

This is true but there are a lot of people who abuse the program. When free money is involved people aren't too keen on having to work for the same money. Same goes with unemployment checks. I know a few people who use that program as a vacation at home between jobs.

Yes, they are a member bank not a regional bank, and of the 12 regional banks nobody in Congress has met an individual of this federal reserve "the federal reserve is no more federal than Federal express" The income tax we pay each year goes directly to this private bank. Our highways and roads are maintained by the taxes we pay at the pump, state taxes we hope then get used for the particular state or county you reside in. I am still going to pay taxes but instead of filing 0 I will be filing 2 this year because the majority of ppl in this country still are unable to comprehend that we are being taxed for no legitimate reason, but that we are scared of the IRS, just hearing that acronym makes ppl uneasy. I worry that if I dont pay my taxes, although its unconstitutional to tax wages, I will end up in jail because of the jury or judge that may be selected, if my case went to trial.

boarderwoozel3
01-27-2008, 05:31 PM
Our taxes are used for running this circus (the good 'ole USA). I’m not saying every last dollar is used in the best way possible (Iraq, pork barreling, etc.). But if everyone just up and decided to stop paying taxes I don't think you'd like the results. Tax cuts= gov't program cuts. Some of these gov't programs are extremely helpful to people who couldn’t afford the services they offer otherwise. The only way to replace them would be to privatize them, meaning big business would have all of us by the balls/ovaries even more so than they already do. Tell me, how is privatized health care working out for us so far? *Hint* its not.

Archie Bunker

A few geniuses in this thread actually thought I was being serious with my previous response. In reality, it was an over-the-top parody of Yablonowitz's do-gooder "raise the tax on luxury items" idea.

I'm not a fan of consumer-related taxes replacing income tax because it will discourage spending and hurt the economy. Replacing income tax with a national sales tax is not the answer.

I'm more in favor of a flat income tax, with an exemption made for the poorest Americans to where they pay zero. The current system is unfair for various reasons, including the fact that the highest earners have to also pay the highest PERCENTAGE of their income. How is that fair? If you're making a lot of money, then you are automatically paying FAR MORE in taxes than the average individual, yet you're getting the same government services as everyone else. Why should that be compounded by a higher percentage?

People naturally think it's fair to tax the rich at a higher percentage, not stopping for a second to think that the rich will already pay a lot more if taxed at the SAME percentage. Under the current system, the government is double-dipping from the pocketbooks of the rich. They are required to pay taxes based upon their income, and the percentage they pay is also based on their income. Regardless of what you think of the rich, they have a right to their money just like you do.

A flat tax would also allow the elimination of a lot of the existing tricks and loopholes that a lot of the wealthiest Americans use to AVOID paying taxes. Today's system is incredibly unfair. Certain high-income people are getting soaked with taxes, while others are paying none at all.

Our tax code is a mess, it takes forever to put together your tax return every April (I know mine is a nightmare), and the government is collecting too much from some and too little from others.

It's time to fix this, but I doubt it will happen any time soon.

TomAz
01-28-2008, 01:09 PM
if the government didn't make interest off people they'd have to raise taxes to cover the lost revenue. the time value of the tax withheld is essentially another form of income tax, and of a much smaller magnitude than the withhold itself. Why you would not object to the $5000 you pay in taxes, but object to the $50 in lost interest income, is beyond me.

in math they call ~ over a variable name a tilde.

so like you've got A.

then you can have A' which would be "ay-prime"

and you can have A~ (but with the squiggle over the A) and it would be "ay-tilde"

you can even have A^ (but with the carat over the A). in French they call that an 'accent circonflexe' but my memory is in math we just called it "ay-hat".

I'm glad we had this chat.

I dont believe any of this!!!
I was always under the impression that a tilde was a ` and not a ~
SON OF A BITCH!!!

Well , good thing i am ignorant or else this would change stuff.

in French, a ` over a letter is an accent grave. if it sloped the other way it would be an accent aigu.

"~" can also mean "about" for example:

you will spend ~300 dollars for a three day pass for coachella.

TomAz

I called it "ay-raised to"

A^4 means "ay raised to the fourth power", yes. but I was talking about the little pyramid being over the A, not next to it.

Way to use a representative sample!

I'm a product of the welfare system. Trust me, it works.
