They're touring! Ok, just UK dates announced so far, but here's hoping they come state-side in the near future. Love this band!

I didn't create a new thread when I posted the info in the upcoming shows thread because I felt it was a little early to be creating a thread about it.

It does deserve it's own thread though, but there could have been more info in the initial post. Here is what I posted on 4/20:

Good news:

Massive Attack announce comeback tour

It's the Bristol band's first full jaunt in three years

Massive Attack have announced details of their first UK tour in three years, set to kick off in September.

The band, who are gearing up to release a new album around the time of the tour, will call at venues in cities including London, Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle.

Tickets go on sale on Friday (April 24) at 9am (GMT).

Massive Attack will play:

London Brixton 02 Academy (September 17, 18)
Sheffield 02 Academy (21)

Leeds 02 Academy (24)
Manchester Apollo (26)
Glasgow 02 Academy (28)
Newcastle 02 Academy (30)
Leicester De Montfort Hall (October 2)

A winter Massive Attack U.S. tour would be heavenly.

They actually did a summer European tour last year and played a bunch of new material.
Had hopes of them coming over our way then, but eh.
(i think all of their Glastonbury set, or most of it from 2008 was broadcast on tv and theres a torrent around somewhere).

The fact that these are solo gigs means there's hope for a soon return to the states!

Last time I saw them was the Hollywood Bowl with TVotR. Man, what a show! I kinda hope though that they are moving beyond their current light show which, although impressive, appears to have been around for quite some time.

But honestly, I'd watch these guys play in a plain, white room and not care much. Here's some karmacoma for everyone in this thread!

When are we getting some motherfucking tour dates?

Should we just assume they will be at Coachella 2010? The last news we seem to have is this..

Massive Attack vocalist and musician Robert "3D" Del Naja has revealed plans for a huge world tour to support the release of their long-anticipated fifth album out in October via Virgin/EMI.

The British electronic act has already confirmed more than 40 dates in the U.K. and Europe, beginning with three shows at London's 5,000-capacity O2 Academy Brixton (Sept. 17-19). The U.K. shows are promoted by SJM.

Now Del Naja has confirmed the full extent of the tour to Billboard.com, which he says is likely to top 150 shows including U.S. dates.

"We'll do the U.K., Europe, then take Christmas off, and then go to Asia, into America and then we'll roll out to the festivals," he says. "When you get on a roll it's such a laugh. For Meltdown [Festival] last year we ended up doing about 40 shows all around eastern and southern Europe, it was really good fun. So I can imagine for this we'll end up doing maybe 150 gigs."

The band debuted new songs at their 2008 shows including the Meltdown Festival at London's Southbank Centre, which they curated and they were also part of the line-up. Other dates were added into the schedule once their Meltdown appearance had been confirmed.

He adds that while the U.K. is the first scheduled run of dates, the band will actually begin its tour in Mexico, although the dates are not confirmed. "It's going to be two festivals in Mexico, I think they might be new festivals," he tells Billboard.com. "The Latin American attitude will definitely ensure that it's going to be a laugh."

Massive Attack's last album "100th Window" was released in 2003 and their fifth set has been due at various stages in the last few years. The act has been working with artists including U.K. rock act Blur's frontman Damon Albarn, Guy Garvey of U.K. indie-rock band Elbow and Stephanie Dosen.

"The album is out in October and we're touring in September, so there will be a two-week discrepancy where we'll politely request the audience's attention while they hear some new songs that have been re-mastered," Del Naja says.

In fact, several new songs including "Red Light" and "All I Want" performed on tour last year were well received. "I think things are changing, I don't think people expect to hear an album they know and then go and hear it live, I think people are much more intelligent than that," comments Del Naja.

He confirmed that the album will be released by Virgin/EMI, but there is no confirmed title - although there was a slight hint that they have returned to an earlier, proposed title, "Weather Underground."

"We had a stage name for it, and we've given up on it, we've gone back," he says. "We always think of the name at the last minute, that way you haven't got to think about it or live with it."

Massive Attack's Del Naja and Grant "Daddy G" Marshall collected the outstanding contribution to British music Ivor Novello award at a London ceremony today (May 21).

Massive Attack EP- 05.10.09

Lead track 'Splitting The Atom' features D, G and Horace Andy, while TV On The Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe guests on 'Pray For Rain'. The EP also has remixes of two new tracks. 'Psyche' featuring Martina Topley-Bird mixed by Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid, while the Guy Garvey fronted 'Bulletproof Love' is stripped back to a minimalist reworking by Christoff Berg.

Exclusive play of 'Splitting The Atom' on Radio 1 tonight - Zane Lowe has picked it as his 'Hottest Record In the World Ever' and will play it in his show tonight.

The band will release their fifth studio album in February 2010. This time around sees collaborations with Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval, Martina Topley-Bird, Guy Garvey and Tunde Adebimpe. More news on this soon...

Several artist did record sessions but will not appear in the album. These artists are Jhelisa Anderson (also recorded unreleased material in 2002), Stephanie Dosen, Yolanda Quarty (of Phantom Limb), Aku and Akwetey Orraca-Tetteh of Dragons of Zynth, Elizabeth Fraser, Dot Allison, Debbie Clare, Mike Patton, Fredo Viola and Beth Orton

Hmmm... I wonder if that means they're going to have non-album B-sides for the singles off the new album or something more like Radiohead (i.e. leaking out songs every now and then to keep their buzz going).

I really enjoyed False Flags especially live. But at Coachella after they opened with it 3D said something like "Now that that's out of the way..." Still, they did it again at the Hollywood Bowl a year later. It's a plodding cut for sure, but I like it.

The new song is ok. Maybe not cutting edge, but good.

If they bring along Tricky as a guest vocalist to Coachella I'd sure be giddy!

He did that at every show pretty much that tour.
Something along the lines about "now, for something more upbeat" and Risingson would start.

It really was the perfect way to start the show

I thought so too. It has an ominous build to it live.

They did not do Karma Koma at the last show I saw at the Hollywood Bowl. I sure could stand to see that one again! Dunno if anyone else here saw that show, but I went down to hit the can after one of their tunes and when I came back, I noticed they were letting people into the walkway area who wanted to dance. That's where I am goin if they ever play there again. And I don't even dance! Just looked cool.

HunterGather

No Karmacoma at Hollywood bowl? Odd.
Was that around the time Daddy G pulled out of some shows to be with his wife who was giving birth? I know they switched around the setlist for a few shows because of that (3D did Risingson alone i think and Horace did another one of his songs).

And yeah, more 100th window stuff! But they seem to just do Future Proof and MAYBE Butterfly Caught these days.

Small Time Shot Away and Antistar are my favs from that album!

I'm liking the new EP, but I hope they keep the soul element alive for the album. loving the remix of Bulletproof love. and I hope the incredible Horace Andy is back. i wish Shara Nelson would be back too, but don't think that's going to happen.

I like Mezzanine, but honestly don't listen to it much. It's quite a bummer to listen to IMO, though still beautiful. can't get into 1000 window much. Protection and Blue Lines will forever be their masterpieces in my eyes.

love "live with me" too

FUCK YES.

I love those guitars that sneak up on you and then BAM.

And I want her skirt. When will long skirts come back in style, damnit? I've been waiting 7 years.
