View Full Version : Most Likely to Be Invited Back in 2010?

RageAgainstTheAoki
04-21-2009, 08:39 PM
Out of the 2009 lineup, who do you think is most likely to be invited back in 2010? I mean, besides Steve Aoki, Ettienne de Crecy and Thenewno2. Those are already givens. Robin Givens. 'Cause they're so beat! But, seriously, do you think anyone will be back in '10? My money would be on Buraka Som Sistema. Their set was on fire and seems to have garnered nearly universal praise on here. I could easily see them being invited back for a Mojave Tent performance in 2010. You?

Actually, I don't think RageAgainstTheAoki is kidding about Buraka Som Sistema and I agree with him/her. I would love to have them back in 2010 in a bigger tent. I could also see Bloody Beetroots and Surkin being invited back with later sets for both acts.

I LIKE Steve, I LIKE Ed Banger, I LIKE the BB...

I also know what makes a good dj, a fun dj, and a genius dj, and rarely are they the same (the few genius dj's usually pull off all 3).

Steve/Pedro/etc are FUN, they make a fucking group of people move, and its good times, I hope they all come back, better than supermayer or para one...

The Plump DJs never really leave Europe, though, do they? I mean, how often do they play the states, anyway?

Since I'm really just an EDM guy, I'd have to go with the Chemical Brothers because I figure they'll be touring after completing their new album.

But I think Daft Punk will be doing the same thing and they'd probably get the offer first.

The plump Djs are finally allowed a visa into the USA and Canada. They also just added a link for booking them in USA and Canada to their myspace account within the last month or two. so they were not allowed in North America for a while. about 6 years ago I went to england and went to fingerlickin records and asked when the hell are the plump djs ever going to play in the US and the guy said " sorry mate, they aren't allowed over there." so seeing them on sunday has been the highlight of my electronic career since plump night out came out in 2000.

Ok you dipshits, listen up.

1st: This thread is totally worthless and amounts to little more than you just tossing out random names unless you also include your justification as to why a certain band would be asked to play twice in a row.

2nd: Coming up with that justification requires pinpointing if there is, in fact, a solid way to predict when bands will do repeat performances. Based on what history has shown, I can decipher no real method to the playing twice in a row madness. In example, you had Gogol Bordello place twice in a row, and everyone was really pumped about their first performance. However, you've also had MIA play twice in a row, and her performance last year was pretty widely considered to be miserable.

So, in conclusion, this thread is a piece of shit and so are all of your faces.

okay , i will back up why i said the bands that i would like to see as a repeat should play twice in a row .

Lykke Li - because her and almost anyone that played the outdoor stage got bleeded out by the sound of the do lab , they should be given a second chance for that reason

Bloody Beetroots - because they just killed it , and brought a great vibe

Ghostland Observatory - because they are great live , the light show is always amazing , and everyone has a good time

This is just silly though. It's turned into just a thread where people type lists of their favorite acts from this year and in some cases, any year. What's the point? So everyone from the Outdoor Stage is gonna come back next year?

Coachella doesn't work that way. They try to book unique and varying acts year by year and in any given consecutive years you're not going to find more than maybe 8 repeat acts, and that's a high number.

Gogol Bordello and Justice both played 07 and 08 for example, and my guess for the reasoning behind this is they were wildly popular but conflicted with headliners or major acts the first time around. Not just because they played good sets. Lots of people play good sets at Coachella, that's why Coachella's good. Fleet Foxes were good, but that doesn't mean they'll be invited back next year. Maybe whenever they have another album.

Here are my assumptions as to why bands get booked twice in a row: it happens when a bands fan base grows to much bigger numbers. Obviously gorgol bordello's fan base grew inbetween 07 and 08, I would think the same applies to justice and the same applies with MIA who is now all over the radio, tv, movies etc.

I agree with that. I think for a band to come back they have to be on the rise the first time they play and get far larger by the time next year rolls around.

I think Beirut too, because GV clearly underestimated Zach Condon's draw, and he'd pull even more fans to a bigger stage, and it'd be epic at sunset. That's probably wishful thinking.

Ghostland Observatory needs to be invited back and given the mainstage just after dark.

Word! Actually just a higher billing in the Sahara.

First and foremost, no new material = No back to back performance.

Not true. Justice ring a bell? M.I.A.? Bloc Party? Para One & Surkin?

i heard it was gonna be TRV$vsAoki..

i wouldnt be surprised if they requested the main or outdoor after the crapshoot sardine can that was HARD... the Sahara is very similar to that atmosphere..packed and ruthless

i like the idea of Underworld closing Outdoor.. but i like the idea of Underworld in the Sahara during Muse more..

What is the point in comparing???!!!

who's comparing?? i'm simply said i'd prefer to have UW at Coach than Orbital.. if GV can only get one, for whatever reason, i'd prefer it be Underworld..

Ghostland Observatory on main stage would be an atrocity. Don't get me wrong, i am OBSESSED with their performances, but they will definitely be most successful in a tent. Light shows just don't translate as well outdoors. SAHARA TENT, please and thank you. let the mind blowing begin.

not true. they did their first BIG laser show at ACL 2008 on one of the large outdoors stages and it worked great. it was my first time seeing them and i've been hooked ever since.

having said that, it's very unlikely that they'd get a *night* main stage slot anyway, so closing out the sahara one night would be awesome and appropriate (where they should have been last year). but, they will need some new material, me thinks, to be asked back so quickly.

also, totally agree with los campesinos and lykke li calls on here!

oh god, please...NO! those are two of my fave live acts touring right now and i'd likely have a seizure from the conflictphobia that would cause. besides, underworld anywhere other than the sahara or main stage (yes, they can pull it off....APW 2008 was rad!) would be sacrilege!

they've played the Outdoor before.. i don't see why closing Outdoor would be worse than the early evening set they would get being on Main..

how much more does the Gobi hold than the Dome and surrounding Dome area?

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I really hope Lykke Li gets invited back this year, I missed her set because I wasn't into her music yet, and now it is my biggest and possibly only regret of last year.

it was cute to watch her get sunburned, like actually physically watch it!

ahaha :)

because the outdoor stage sounds like utter shyte. for the life of me, every set i've seen there in the 3 years i've been going has sounded like crap. plus, it would be a shame not to experience the full effect of underworld's live set...which you couldn't replicate effectively on the outdoor.

either the sub slot on the main or closing out sahara would be blissful.

It was amazing, but my face was melting off so I had to go hide in the shade cast by the beer tent (which, by day 3, was disgusting).

Ya I remember walking by the outdoor while she was playing, and I wasn't familiar enough with her music to battle the heat. Hopefully she will be back!
