Ummm, a lot of your "rare" bands are not so rare. But anyways...

I have only one desire at this point and that is to see Orbital. As a EDM fan for the last two decades, this is the group responsible for my passion for the scene. God I hope they continue to tour. GV, you would more than make up for the slightly light Sahara this year if you booked these guys. Put Hasselhoff in there for the rest of the weekend if you want, just give these guys an hour and a half and I can die happy.

David Bowie - has not toured since 2003
Daft Punk - only did half as many dates as they should have in 2007
Poe - has not played since 2002
Yellow Magic Orchestra - apparently has never played America, only a few gigs anywhere since reuniting a couple years ago
David Hasselhoff (no, seriously) - wasn't his tour a couple years ago canceled
William Shatner (ditto) - has performed with Ben Folds twice, and one of those times was on television
Dave Chappelle - hasn't done anything since going insane except for a couple surprise appearances as the Laugh Factory
Chris Rock - not that rare, but has only played one festival: Bonnaroo
Lou Reed - not rare
Broken Social Scene WITH Feist and Emily Haines - is now rare...Lolla got this and we didn't and that simply will not stand
The Knife - incredibly rare
Fever Ray - canceled her 3-date June US tour
Royksopp - rare if you live in America
Sufjan Stevens - never does anything anymore...so much for the 50 states project

Gotta love cold, hard facts, son.

KYUSS

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES and yes.

This weekend, I saw two separate people on the polo fields with Kyuss shirts, to which I yelled at both of them when I saw them "KYUSS REUNION FOR COACHELLA 2010" as loud as I possibly could... one of them gave me a disturbed look in return, the other guy gave me a thumbs up. Heh.

I guess I should have done that "Address every name on the list" thing too.

David Bowie - granted but rumor/wish list so played out
Daft Punk - Had a MASSIVE tour and played lots of cities
Poe - True
Yellow Magic Orchestra - not familiar
David Hasselhoff (no, seriously) - wtf
William Shatner (ditto) - double wtf
Dave Chappelle - Comedy not Coachella's thing
Chris Rock - see above
Lou Reed - n/a
Broken Social Scene WITH Feist and Emily Haines - just became rare, hmmm
The Knife - true
Fever Ray - tours
Royksopp - tours with album release (expect them in a city near you)
Sufjan Stevens - true

So you see, when I said "A lot", I guess I should have made the point that many artist/groups on the list were either a)not rare or b) had no bearing on Coachella's potential future lineup.

One LA date when they could have easily sold out two and possibly three and ONE on the entire east coast does not equal a massive tour.

I suppose what you're saying is that their US tour was a little light, I get it. But to say that they are rare... 4 years ago I would have agreed, but I think Daft Punk is only going to tour more and more.

From 1960s/1970s - Really think they should be going with 4-8 acts from this era a year...it will so expand ticket sales, which even Sahara tent fervents must acknowledge is the most critical element to keeping Coachella going...if not for day of Sales this year, Coachella would have lost money...but McCartney had them all their at noon on his day. Get used to at least one headliner a year coming from this pool.

You know, at this point pretty much any band I've ever really liked has been to Coachella. Well except for the bands that would never fit in (Steely Dan etc). I think there are more bands I'd like to see again that I saw originally at Coachella. Air, Basement Jaxx, MBV, Fleet Foxes, Pixies all come to mind. But lets see...

my favorite thing to see would be XTC play live
Eels
Stray Cats
Kostars
Badly Drawn Boy (if it hasn't already been done)

6 Coachellas is a lot (I've only been 3 times, scattered over the years) but saying you don't want to go because you've seen everyone before? To me, that's like saying I don't need to listen to an album anymore because I've heard it once. Going to concerts isn't just about the music. It's about being out there, dancing, with friends, away from work, enjoying the weather, with a good head buzz, etc. Every year Coachella has someone I've seen before on the lineup and you know what? If I liked them before, I make sure to see them again.

Now then, where was I...? Oh yes

Several people have said Muse, and yet no one called them out on it?

Get a dictionary, kids.

As for Killing Joke, this year would have made more sense. They got the original lineup back together LAST year, and they have a show scheduled in London in May, and then doing some summer festivals in Europe. Way old news by next year. And they never really went away anyway

Why is it that everyone always feels the need to specify "(w/ Eno)" when talking about Roxy Music. Do you really think he would make that big of a difference? I hope people start requesting Roxy Music (w/ Eddie Jobson).

I guess it has to do with what era Roxy Music you like. I would like to see stuff of For Your Pleasure and the ST and very little off of Avalon if they are with Eno that would probably be the case. I love Roxy Music with Eno and I'm not as big of a fan of their stuff without him.

Leeartlee
04-27-2009, 12:48 PM
I like T4F but I do agree that they would not be a perfect "fit" for Coachella. However, considering some of the other shit bands that play every year, I think they would do just fine.

Roxy with Eno won't happen. But Roxy Music in any form would be pretty amazing.

AlecEiffel
04-27-2009, 12:53 PM
I like them with Eno, don't get me wrong, but it's not like they wouldn't play "Remake/Remodel" or "Do the Strand" or whatever just because he wasn't there. I think most people would probably just want to hear "More Than This" and "Avalon" anyway.

Lush was awesome the first time I saw them was as the opener for Lollapalooza 92 in Dallas later Miki stagedived and hit her head while on stage with Ministry it was insane. The 2nd time I saw them was a club show for the Split album and it was great. The last time was at a Radio Festival thing and they only got like 30 minutes but I kept yelling songs out at Miki and she started laughing my girlfriends name was Laura and I wanted her to play that song so she did. Great band lots of energy not your regular shoegaze band one of the better ones Curve is another fun one that just doesnt stand there and play. As for Poe she is amazing. I got the chance to see her in 96 twice, I meet her and her brother in 2000 for the House of Leaves/Haunted Book tour where they intertwined the two works and then last time I saw her was with DM and that was it 4 times each time was incredible and she is a natural beauty because one time she had little to no make up on and was radiant. I just saw the Manic Street Preachers a few days ago at their first U.S show in 10 years. I'd love to see them at Coachella.

Dude, apparenty Aphex Twin plays clubs in the UK every so often. His next date that I know of is at The Warehouse Project in Manchester. Even more reason I need to do a semester abroad next year...

*sigh* every once and while though, I get weak and start going to Fabrics webpage. It's not healthy.

Cul de Sac would be really amazing playing the outdoor at sunset. Perfect desert music.

okay all of these are totally doable and are semi rare acts but still kinda of play whenever they decide to play...

chavez (did that new years gig '06/'07 i couldn't go to.)
th' faith healers (regrouped early '06 for a short while.)
shipping news (they hardly ever play.)
hum (in dec. '08 / jan. '09 played 3 reunion shows.)
pavement (duh!)
the wake (releasing some new music soon!)
unrest (all still around each other somewhat.)

Fabric is a fucking sick club.

I'm going to make a list of obscuring bands, because that will show how "indie" and "hip" I am. Yay... I am a complete tool, hooray me!
