I just got a phone call about this. MBV and Throbbing Gristle are putting on shows pre and post coachella. MBV at El Rey will be EPIC. I know there is an upcoming shows thread, but this is just too amazing.

So much for all of us getting tickets now.

And TG is a separate event.

But will MBV have an opener?

Ardentbiscuit
04-13-2009, 01:00 PM
TG is at the The Ricardo Montalban Theatre.

I've seen movies and plays there, not sure how a concert would be there.

Dogvolta

Don't know if they will have an opener, but this is going to be quite the frenzy. And yes, they are separate shows.

Depends what time he is even landing, if this show starts at like 10 and he lands at 8 or so, thats fine. Theres ways to get from burbank to the el rey and bypass a lot of traffic.

Sound was fine at SMC, get better ears. And The El Rey will be fine as long as the PA doesnt blow.

shoegazer76
04-16-2009, 10:12 AM
The first night I sat behind the sound board & it was shitty sound on sound bouncing off the walls. The second night I got up close to the stage & it sounded 20X better. Dunno what night you went but the first night sound was poor due to the acoustics or audio techs. Dunno which. I heard the same complaints from numerous other fans.

Is there a place a simple retail kind of place where I can buy Hearos like that, Tessa? Those were really the ones I was looking for, but of course I didn't have the time to order them off the internet yesterday... I'm a bit disappointed with what I found.

Boourns
04-16-2009, 01:14 PM
Hey Tessa, where do you get those Hearos? I didn't see anything like that at CVS on Tuesday. Currently chilling in Santa Monica...will leave for MBV in a few hours.

Worst case scenario, everyone gets free foamies, yes?

the MBV show at ATP had free earplugs that were selected by MBV... they were a light step above the foam guys... still pretty mediocre though.

I have no clue if they'll have free plugs at any of the other shows though.

Time to search local businesses on google maps.

bmack86
04-16-2009, 01:27 PM
hey Tessa, do you guys have access to ticketmaster in the booth? Apparently my ink cartridge dried up in the past two days, as it'll only print specks now, and I did ticketfast so that I could give my tickets away if I couldn't make it. Should I hit up kinkos, or can you guys pull it up there?

tessalasset
04-16-2009, 01:28 PM
mr. mack i am looking at your two tickets right now as a matter of fact. are you gonna be able to come for sure or do you need to leave them under a different name?

Boourns
04-16-2009, 01:47 PM
Rite Aid here I come, w00t w00t

Edit: oh nice. Yeah, I imagine they would be giving away the foam ones so they can't get sued. I'll see if Rite Aid has anything nicer, though.

As for shoegaze shows, being up front is vastly overrated. You hear more in the back than just a wall of noise. Same thing with Asobi Seksu...could not hear any vocals in the front row, but I could hear them beautifully from outside. But I had to be in the front row for that one ;)

I wonder if they are playing any new songs.

pancakespancakes
04-16-2009, 01:53 PM
Rite Aid is where I went last night, and the best I came up with was what I posted on the last page.

I just checked my local music store and they unfortunately were sold out of Hearos and/or missed a shipment. But they usually have em. Just my bad luck...

You can also go up to Guitar center on Sunset before the show.

I will definitely give this a shot. How far from the El Rey?

Dogvolta

These are the same style I wore the second night. I didn't wear any the first night of the SMCA shows. This style is supposed to be superior to any ear plugs out there. When they first hit the market they were $20-$25 a pair. This one guy was wearing headphone style mufflers the kind worn @ the shooting range. Don't be that guy.

Will they have merch tonight?

tessalasset
04-16-2009, 02:22 PM
i will check in a bit on merch. just got confirmation they will for sure be handing out ear plugs.

yeah those ones seriously rule. half the time i dont even feel like im wearing them, just that the sound was turned down a little bit. you can adjust them in your ears to hear better. they dont just fill up the whole ear cavity. i approve. not shelling out for $200 custom made ones.

wmgaretjax
04-16-2009, 02:28 PM
Yeah... I'd love to get a custom pair... i would lose them though.

tessalasset
04-16-2009, 02:35 PM
yes on merch sales.

pancakespancakes
04-16-2009, 02:35 PM
Honestly I'm just more worried about sound reduction than sound quality... I don't want my ears to be ringing like mad all day tomorrow. That would just be horrible for Coachella. So I think my foamies will do just as well as the High-Fi ones for that...

wmgaretjax
04-16-2009, 02:40 PM
If they are passing out earplugs, chances are theirs will sound better (if they are the same that were at ATP), and i'm sure the cutoff is totally sufficient to prevent any post show ringing.

Boourns
04-16-2009, 02:42 PM
