Greetings and Salutations!

In a new "approved" thread, I propose that since Coachella 2009 Hasn't even started yet, it seems now is the perfect time to start the rumor mongering for 2010!!

Lets hope we can get a 1000+ page super thread, I hear that when we hit that goal, everyone will get a free kitten (or puppy!) courtesy of PETA, The Rescue Shelter Boys (formerly the Pet Shop Boys) and Goldenvoice!

By "everyone" of course I mean, Me!

Let's start if off with the running rumor lineup for 2010:

Faith No More
Muse (win!)
the Pixies (extra win!)
the Strokes (2002 ftw!)
U2 (ok, probably not)
Arcade Fire (hey, I added that one!)
Sasha Grey DJ Set
Katy Perry motorboating tent, sponsored by mstrkrft boats!
THE HOFF (probably the only legit rumor we have for 2010)

What does everyone else think?

Come on, we have to give all those other "legitimate" news sources something to talk about!!

First person to suggest Pavement gets a hug.

Next year, assuming that blood-free thousand dollars magically bamfs into my hand in time for Coachella, and the passport control people never find out about that thing, I would, ideally, like the following to be waiting for me in Indio.

A wishlist, if you will.

Pulp.
Tiga.
LCD Soundsystem.
Beirut.
Foals.
Bat for Lashes.
Feist.
Final Fantasy.
Sunset Rubdown or Wolf Parade, either or.
Rachel Unthank & The Winterset.
Laura Marling.
Parenthetical Girls.
Blood Red Shoes.
Metric.
DFA1979.
Land of Talk.
Antony & The Johnsons.
Howling Bells.
Shearwater.
Grizzly Bear.
Arcade Fire.
Mr. Bowie.
Talking Heads.

That would make for a very nice 2010 for me.

I'd like to see Bell Orchestre also, but I like those folks a lot and don't want to overwork them.

I have no particular preference in setlist order, but I'd quite like Arcade Fire to be on some time on Sunday, so I don't sweat to death on Saturday and miss out on the many other fine, hardworking musicians left on the bill.

Thank you for reading.

Sub-Headliners: The Prodigy, The Strokes, Primus

Pearl Jam will be touring and have never headlined, Radiohead should be touring and are obviously always welcome at Coachella, The White Stripes would just be amazing. The Prodigy should still be on tour, the Strokes will be coming out with a new album, and Primus sucks.

MP, are you going to grace Coachella with your presence next year ???

It's dependant on two factors, the first being money, the second being Arcade Fire.

And I know that sounds like creepy musical zealotry, but it's mainly a practical thing. I know that if they're playing, it pretty much guarantees a bunch of my friends will be making the trek too. When it comes to music festivals, I'm a firm believer in the more-the-merrier principle.

I would almost agree with you....but then we got The Killers and Jack Johnson. Neither of them sell out arenas....small venues and amphitheaters at best...

Arcade Fire (if they have something new ready) WILL headline next year...next year's jj/killers headliner will either be them, Interpol or Muse.

Friday - Depeche Mode
Saturday - The Arcade Fire
Sunday - U2

Subheadliners: Kanye West, Massive Attack, Pavement (reunion), Kings of Leon, Echo and the Bunnymen, Paul Oakenfold/Paul Van Dyk/Armin Van Buuren

Other bands (no order): Modest Mouse, Jarvis Cocker, Chester French, Animal Collective, Julie Doiron, Sun 0))), Fake Blood, LA Riots, Shinichi Osawa, etc.

So let me ask a serious question. As I have not trolled on this board until about Feb of this year, when do rumors for potential bands actually start becoming legit? As in, when can we start really getting excited for the lineup? Is it December? Jan? Early May?

TeamCoachellaHellYeah
04-22-2009, 10:09 AM
talk about all the summer festivals: euro festivals included. Talking about who is releasing what and when. Talk about potential new acts. And rumor monger and wishlist until then. For the record...the rumors for Paul McCartney started coming out in Oct. so that is why I say oct. We do the line up pool in November and then everything goes to hell until the line up release...and then everything goes to hell again with the add rumors...then the festival happens and we do this all over again...

Daft Punk and either Muse or Arcade Fire will headline. Most likely Muse since it's already confirmed their new album will be out before then, and I doubt we get three headliner promotions in one year. As for the third headliner, I have no idea. I would like to think David Bowie but I doubt it. Jacko is too controversial and undependable. Springsteen and Depeche Mode would be rehashing last year's festivals (but then again, RHCP in 2007). We might end up with a hip hop headliner next year.

Post-rock needs to return and that act needs to be Mono. Fact.

lol, I was kidding but thanks for that

I'm actually pretty pumped for Outside Lands this year. I know, I know everyone here thinks DMB = fail but I like them, and the rest of the lineup is shaping up quite nicely. But their board frickin' sucks (although it is in its infancy)

Even though interpol has been around a bit longer than arcade fire, I would say arcade fire is more of the potential headliner

i like Interpol better live.

sorry for the incorrect information up there, that's one reason i had the question mark at the end. it's not a dislike for Arcade Fire at all, i was just saying that i have more of a general respect for Interpol's carreer and how they've changed, as compare to Arcade Fire having only put out one very good record (in my opinion), and not much else. i love all of Interpol's albums to death, and i think their live show is magical and somewhat moving *gasp*. especially when they start out Obstacle 1.

All Interpol's songs sound kinda the same to me, although to be fair, that's because I tend to get hung up on their vocals. I have real trouble imagining them generating energy out of a festival crowd live though...?

Arcade Fire are better suited to headlining than Interpol. Interpol are pretty good live, enjoyed them in 07 but for me they are always the warm-up for the headliner.

Personally, I'd like a Muse/Arcade Fire day at Coachella next year. As long as both get 90 minute sets, I will be very, very happy!

Final Fantasy's one guy with a violin. Bell Orchestre are all instrumental. Wild Light are straight up indie rock. Noh Cars Go is, uh, odd.

Most of them like to chip in on a load of other projects, Unicorns and stuff, but I'd say it's one of those four.

Bell Orchestre (http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27358)'s second album is just out, I think, and it's one of the best of the year so far. Final Fantasy (http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13080) is outstanding, he has a couple of albums and EPs, and hopefully another one out soon.

Wild Light, I'm not sure about off the top of my head. I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but they're solid enough live and really nice dudes. Supporting the Killers later this year, I think.

Most of the guys and girls have solo projects of their own too, although Win & Régine are kind of a single unit.

I concur. Minus the lackluster part. Yes, the 1st part of Paul's set was lame but there was soo much win in that long set that it more then made up for it. As for Roger..he still put on one of the most epic shows I have ever seen...even if parts were lip sync'd! But I agree...No Who..and NO Rolling Stones...anyhoo I think Coachella has milked that route all they could now..(minus Bowie of course)...It might be just me but Paul and Roger made sense at Coachella because of their old band's influence on the Coachella line ups...Rolling Stones and The Who do not...Bowie is the only other one...and Neil Young...but that's it...

I will look up some youtubes later. But I saw them back in 06 and I was basically going for the novelty of The Who. However, they proved they are more than just a novelty act. Pete Townshend and Roger Daultry (or however the fuck you spell him last name) still have undeniable chemistry together. The band sounded tight and the music sounded urgent and vital, not just remnants of the past. I would be front row if they played at Coachella.

TeamCoachellaHellYeah

No The Who please! No Stones either!

Sad to say I think we will get another vet act next year-just because they shift tickets. Bowie would be more than acceptable, but it seems unlikely.

I have to disagree on the qualities of The Who...it shows OK but there is very little passion or inspiration. Seen them three times and been disappointed every time. It is half the Who and half as good.
The contenders for the 'oldie' slot will be Bowie, Springsteen and Neil Young.

here is the thing with the bowie vs the who commentary...

the who tours...bowie does not...

i would watch the who yes, but would they be a draw?

Bowie would be a much larger draw....I think the Who would be as much of a draw as the Killers...

There is no way U2 AND The Who will be there. More like...

Arcade Fire
Muse
U2 or The Who

i hope your wrong on that one Patton,if not im saving up for 2011
(there would have to be an unbelievable undercard to change my mind)

emtgreg -

that talking heads thing is interesting - but after bonnaroo giving byrne a stage to curate, i would imagine ANY reunion of sorts would be there, no?

Bonnaroo likes its reunions as much as Coachella...

So who knows, in reality it is more about the paycheck than anything else, so who knows what the future will bring...

So as I bump my own thread, I should mention that I would approve of:

Just got back after seeing blur in merry old england for the 1st time in 10 years or so (I'm over here for Glastonbury). It wouldn't be too much for me to have even more blur at coachella in 2010.

I could be wrong, but I think it is almost a given that the following acts will be at Coachella in 2010:

Daft Punk
My Morning Jacket
Digitalism

I'm not trying to copy anyone else's prediction I'm just thinking that it makes too much sense to not happen and am wondering how much merit that has.

If this is true, however, I'm pretty much satisfied with whatever else gets thrown in. You might not, but it's a heck of a place to start.

What makes you say MMJ?

http://www.spinner.com/2009/06/22/my-morning-jacket-on-hiatus/

My Morning Jacket Taking a Hiatus
My Morning Jacket has a history of performing career-defining shows at Bonnaroo, but they weren't on this year's lineup. That didn't stop drummer Patrick Hallahan from going anyway, as a fan. It's not that My Morning Jacket decided to just skip Bonnaroo - they're not playing anywhere, any time soon. "Right now, honestly, we've just taken a big hiatus," Hallahan admitted to Spinner while enjoying a beer backstage. "We've been touring for eight years straight. We all have other things going on right now."

By that he means, of course, all-star side projects that are side projects for all their stars. Hallahan's been drumming in the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach's solo venture while My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James is part of the upcoming Monsters of Folk enterprise (which also features Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Mike Mogis.)

Keep in mind that, although it's been trendy lately for bands to downplay their demise by calling it a hiatus, when Hallahan says that My Morning Jacket is on a hiatus, that's exactly what he means. "Everybody's just taking time off and doing what they want to do," he says. "We're all in our own islands and eventually we'll all swim back to the mainland and get back together."

Okay, Patrick, that's allowed. Take your time, but hurry up. We want to see you at next year's 'roo.

They stopped touring some time around January didn't they? You don't think that taking a year and three months off before coming back would be enough?

I'd like to throw another act into the mix: Pretty Lights.

He's been touring like mad, hitting basically all the festivals this summer EXCEPT for Coachella. The guy doesn't even have his own Wiki page yet but for those of you who haven't been to a PL show... you need to do it. If you like electronic music anyway..

Still really early, but I made a list of potential headliners based on tours, comments by the bands, new album dates and working on new material:

Good Shot at Headlining or at least being there:
Muse
Interpol
Arcade Fire

semi long shot based on them working on new material:
Radiohead
Daft Punk

REALLY LONG SHOTS but given Coachella history and recent headliners would not be out of the question:
David Bowie
Led Zeppelin
U2

I'm thinking 2010 will have Jay-Z as a headliner. He has a new album out in September...thoughts?

he's one of those artists that is signed up with live nation, i'm not sure what it would take for him to get to play coachella a goldenvoice ran event. Pretty sure he can only do live nation stuff.

expect Justice again next year new album in 2010 signed to elektra now they are going to make an even bigger bid for the main stream so we may even see them subheadline.

hmmm....I was thinking of this too...it could be quite plausible for the mainstage to go Justice --> Daft Punk. Provided both are there...or even Justice --> Air --> Daft Punk.....French invasion.

Fuck Justice. I think next year is a good chance of David Bowie finally...if not him, then I think GV would push really hard to get U2. The other two headliners would probably be along the lines of Muse/Kings of Leon/White Stripes/Pearl Jam. I think right now Orbital is a good shot at Sahara headliner one night along with possibly Justice I guess (ugh). Daft Punk headlining a night (talking full headliner - main stage) is still possible, I wouldn't rule that out either.
