Isn't it a bit ironic that you guys think its now "hip" not to dress like "hipsters"?

Everyone has their own style, and even though I might not wear what was listed, I wouldn't hate on someone who did.

I just don't understand what compels someone to take the time to make a thread hating on the way people dress. wow.

Ohhhh hahaha, I was wondering what a hipster was. I hadn't heard the term until I started reading these forums.

Funny lol, seems like once any style gets a name/label for itself, it gets a lot of grief from various other styles.

I guess nobody likes to be labeled :)

For the record, I've met some pretty cool kids from every style/label out there.

What's the word for judging people by their style? Like racism, but for style lol? Or is it just being a d bag?

Oh and I'll be rocking some crappy sunglasses that prob. fit right in lol.

Oh god I'm so excited! My days are getting more and more filled with preparations for the best weekend of my life!

from the article mentioned above:

"I’ve always found that word ["hipster"] is used with such disdain, like it’s always used by chubby bloggers who aren’t getting laid anymore and are bored, and they’re just so mad at these young kids for going out and getting wasted and having fun and being fashionable," he says. "I’m dubious of these hypotheses because they always smell of an agenda." Gavin McInnes

Imagine that...

funny thing though...

all of the hipster-haters here don't add up to even 5% of the board...much less 50%.

Also, to be a hater, you pretty much need to have an UNREASONABLE or UNJUSTIFIED hatred of something or someone. We can justify hipster hate for a variety of reasons.

- Shitty fashion sense
- Smug attitude
- General cockishness
- Acting like douchenozzles
- etc.

I never knew Parliaments are considered a hipster brand. Interesting. I think Parliaments taste like shit, but I always smoked them in college because you could use them to more easily snort blow at parties without being too conspicuous.

That article raises an interesting point in that hipsters go out of their way to attain a certain look (conspicuous consumption at its finest) yet, unlike punkers or b-boys, they resist acknowledging it, despite their obvious efforts. Hipsters always seem a bit shallow and facetious, lacking any sort of substance. They seem overly homoegenized at this point. To each his own, though

I remember when coachella had a bunch of fairy dancers with flowing hippie skirts. The big deal was giving them space so they could dance free in the wind.
The times change, I've over it.
And back in the 60's the term hippie was coined from the word hipster. So its all recycled really.
I'm not too concerned with what people wear. I love how happy everyone is to be there. I have never met an angry person in the 7 years I've been. I love the happy faces, wear whatever, just have fun. If you're there for the scene, see some cool bands too, and if you can, hook up with some babes/dudes.

I don't think anybody is dogging on any style of clothing because it looks funny...it's just funny to bag on hipsters because they're wanna-be elitist club trash euro throwback douchebags

I think hippies are awesome and they dress/groom themselves terribly (in my opinion)

no no, you are still missing the point. i'm not saying cobain's pants are as tight as hipsters, but rather illustrating that the enormo-pants phenomenon was more in full-swing by the time linkin park and rap-metal were most popular, not as early as the grunge era, as the previous poster was claiming. the trend arose more out of hip hop culture and its influence on mainstream rock.

I just clicked on that, and went to their "What Hat Are You Wearing Today" thread. Bunch of people posting pictures of their fedoras for each day.

Worst excuse for a forum ever.

2. cheap wayfarer sunglasses or gas station equivalent

I'll be wearing a pair of lime green/neon orange cheap wayfarers I bought at a gift shop in Paris.

Mind you there will be two dollar-store grade LED lights crudely duct-taped to the sides a la Orbital.

v neck t shirts

*not hating*

ya i remember a couple years ago when in my town the rave scene and hipsters started sprouting all over the place like fungus and i would always say "V necks are for douches " and boy was i right. i have never met a non douche wearing a v neck.. its like finding a cold forrest fire..

i'm actually curious to see what ironic, tacky-turned-cool garment it will be this year

Kanye West already made it cool to wear these around your neck

I'll take a dirty hippy to a hipster any day, at least they're chill[/QUOTE]

I agree hippies are way more fun and they dont care about crappy music!! But I like to live by " Live and let be" although hipsters are annoying, anyone doing their own thing nowadays are called hipsters so I guess Ill be a hipster in my own way, minus the tight jeans on a hot day in the desert! and i like cruely made shoes... they last way more than hemp shoes! woop woop! Party on!
