I really love this year's lineup too. This isn't like last year. damn.

You might consider blaming a ticketing strategy that created a perfect market for scalpers.

TomAz
02-14-2007, 09:50 AM
TicketsNow.com is selling 3 day passes for $470.

I wonder what the ACL lineup is looking like this year.

mountmccabe
02-14-2007, 09:54 AM
Are you saying Coachella should've charged more? Offered more tickets to the festival? That Ticketmaster should've further limited the number of tickets folks could buy? That tickets should've been perfectly fluid all taking from the same pool so the three day passes and say the Sunday tickets would've sold out at the same time? I don't like this last idea because, well, I prefer the idea of people coming for the whole festival.

TomAz
02-14-2007, 09:57 AM
are you talking to Pot? cuz I didnt' say any of that.

mountmccabe
02-14-2007, 09:58 AM
I mean the demand has been high enough so you either have to allow more people in (bad) or decrease the demand. You can raise prices, not book as many of the more popular acts, take away the porta potties, make the message board a hostile place - whatever but you gotta decrease the demand. If you don't want a quick sellout and scalperism.

mountmccabe
02-14-2007, 09:58 AM

Kittie = Pot. So yes, I was talking to Pot.

mountmccabe
02-14-2007, 10:00 AM
Also, JFTR I'm not actually advocating the various methods of reducing demand though I do think a quick sellout like this means that the festival will be able to be a little more selective on bands in the future if that's what they want.

PotVsKtl
02-14-2007, 10:06 AM
The demand is high for one day of the festival. That was easily anticipated. When the 20% single day passes sold out, it quickly became apparent that buying up the 3 day passes and splitting them would yield you a nice profit on eBay. That's where we are now. The 3 day passes should be a single entity. Do not ask me how to accomplish that.

chairmenmeow47
02-14-2007, 10:06 AM
yeah, guess i won't be there this year!

it's alright, i haven't been too excited about the lineup, but if they add a big electronic act i'll prolly be disappointed. that's kinda what i was waiting for.

also, my friends are throwing a rave that weekend, so most of my friends couldn't come with anyways and i wasn't sure who i'd go with.

hope everyone has fun, i bet it'll be nuts this year! i'm still shocked it's sold out!!!

here's how we make it work:

there is a huge booth. maybe 20 lines. inside the booth, at each line, there is a person with wristbands. you get your wristband put on you by a person working for the fest. nobody walks away with one unless it's around their wrist. you start this the a day or two before the fest starts. that way, people already in the area can get it taken care of in advance. no possibility for counterfeiting. and they get the heavy-duty vinyl bands, with iridescent ink.

They use wristbands at ACL. Mine broke one year. Fortunately, I realized it and picke dit up off the ground. I went to one of the gates and told them and showed them my wristband. He said tough shit, you can get new single day passes, but not a new three day wristband. This sucked because only the three day wristband people got ins and outs, and it was fucking 109 degrees out and I wanted to go swim in the river. So I went to a different girl and she gave me a new wristband. End of story.

I saw him the next day and he said it worked perfectly and "tnx bro" .. guess Dani wouldn like that, but it was good Karma for me ... cr******

I agree...I think if you buy a three day pass you should have to go to all three days, this would deter scalpers/people who only want to see rage from buying a three day pass. If people werent able to sell the friday and saturday tickets they would be more hesitant in buying a three day.

euro festivals have cool looking, quite comfortable fabric wristbands which denote either single day or 3 day and take a knife to get them off. Other wristbands are pretty hard to take off aswell, and then can be printed on which would be hard to forge.
Its always nice knowing that you have your wristband, its not going anywhere, and you dont have to worry about losing tickets. I am freaked by the thought of having to carry my tickets all weekend without having a locker to put them in. Locker situation is bullshit.

Perhaps, just for the one weekend, the manpurse should be considered socially acceptable.

02-14-2007, 11:38 PM
I am sure that Coachella is much bigger than most (all) of the festivals in Poland. The biggest one I could find was only 19,500 people. At Coachella we're talking 60,000+ people at the busiest time of the day. So Coachella can do what it has to do, and I am ok with it. Wristband, stamp, paper, hubcap with a chain on it, WHATEVER!

And furthermore, tickets will be available for Friday and probably Saturday from online brokers (bastards) for not too much money, but SUNDAY tickets are gonna be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$!!

I got mine in the presale! Neh neh neh neh neh neh!

Tom,

Looks like I'll be joining you on the no-show list this year. With this new position at work, I really can't afford to take the time off to hit Coachella. I was really looking forward to it too. The Sunday line-up in particular is amazing (RATM not included).

doctashock
02-15-2007, 08:51 PM
Three day passes should be laminates that you can throw in a pocket or put on a lanyard. You can't easily pass them around if there are no in and outs, and it's not like you can't pass around an individual ticket either... but it will prevent people from scalping the days they don't want because very few people will be willing to pay a stranger beforehand for something they can't get until the day of show.

If push came to shove in the computer age it wouldn't be that hard to get pictures on the laminates... either instantly printed at the gate like a Driver's License or you could email a picture file in when you pay for the ticket.

Tell me about it. And, with new position, I'm not supposed to take off the Thursday and Friday before close week (each month) and the Monday and Tuesday of close week. Guess where Coachella falls every year. Well, in 2008, I'm going regardless. (This year, finances played a factor in my decision. Next year, it doesn't matter.)
