slot in the Drones if you get the chance (Friday/9:15 p.m./Karma Lounge)

Elvis Perkins and M.Ward is nice if you're feeling mellow (you'd have to sit through CWK though)

the Grizzly Bear show at the church sounds exciting, but i can only imagine how hard it'd be to get in

i didn't finish looking at the list of artists - i got incredibly jealous mid-way. have fun.

METALLICA. My general hatred for them, their live shows, their auto-fellating drummer, and their choice gem lyrics ("Love is a four-letter word"), is irrelevant. METALLICA.

For this set I would probably stay at Red 7 the whole afternoon, that's a great three band set. As long as I was able to set aside time to see Akron/Family and King Kahn sometime later during the fest; Themselves and Vivian Girls are going to be at Coachella and the Thermals tour a decent amount (near me, at least.)

I haven't seen King Kahn and Ak-Ak are not to be missed live.

EDIT: I am dumb. It wouldn't make sense to see a bunch of bands I have seen recently/will see again soon and miss King Kahn or Ak-Ak. I would have to pick between those two sets. And I'd probably pick Ak-Ak.

mountmccabe
03-14-2009, 08:28 AM
If I were there Wednesday night I would probably pick Central Presbyterian Church for Camera Obscura, St Vincent, Department of Eagles and M Ward. Except that I wouldn't be comfortable in a church so I guess that's out.

Instead I would go back to wishing I could pick and choose sets and see Haley Bonar and Roky Erickson backed by the Black Angels but I would end up considering braving Stubb's for The Decemberists, Avett Brothers and Heartless Bastards.

Or maybe the Parish for Holly Golightly and Dan Auerbach. Yeah, probably that one.

Thursday night for me would be Emo's Jr for the Homosexuals until they end at 11:20 and then trying to get to Prague for the Wrens at 1 am. I know that I wouldn't necessarily be able to get in to see the Wrens but I don't know/care about the bands before them and I couldn't miss the chance to see the Homosexuals.

Stupid question - what is the hazards of love? A song or album? I'm a new Decembrists fan and haven't heard of it.

The Hazards of Love is the forthcoming studio LP from the Decemberists. it is an hour long "(folk) rock opera". it tells the tragic story of Margaret and William. of course, Colin Meloy adds murder, abduction, and assault to make it much more entertaining. it's leaked to the internetz. go enjoy. buy. see them in concert as they will perform it in its entirety.

come to me for your Decemberists needs. :)

i would start a Decemberists thread, but there aint no love for pretentious hyper-literate prog rockers on this board.

if i could make it i would HAVE to see:

dananananaykroyd perform "pink sabbath"

sgt. dunbar & the hobo banned perform "a march through charles mingus's garbage pile"

and the entrance band perform "grim reaper blues"

any of those i imagine would be F@#$ING AWESOME live...
i hope somebody out there enjoys those songs as much as i did when i first heard them :2c

Thats awesome Harrisment, I too was there for Boys Noize and vouch that it was a great set. Also saw Adam Freelands too short of a live set at the Red Eyed Fly but was still stellar and then just saw his dj set yesterday night!!

Other noteworthy highlights:
Kanye West, Common, Erykah Badu, and Kid Cudi
Toxic Avenger
Hearts Revolution
Kissy Sellout
Little Boots
Flosstradamus - caught half set
Asobi Seksu - caught half set
Ponytail - just a happy accident I caught this set
Abe Vigoda
Turbo Fruits
Crocodiles
HEALTH!!!!!
Casiokids
Harlem Shakes

Big dissapointment: Kraak and Smaak
Apparently they needed more channels then the club could give them and left in a big huff.
Funny enough but the Vivian Girls were everywhere but not once did I get a chance to see them.

Got one last show tonight by Rusko @ Barcelona, all these bands and the only thing I have spent $$$ is food!

peter bjorn and john
grizzly bear
dinosaur jr
vivian girls
chairlift

echo and the bunnymen, again.

all of those were full sets, except vivian girls. i didn't want to see some bands (white lies, razorlight, etc) but then again, they were playing before others like pj harvey so i couldn't avoid them.

highlight: pj harvey.
