View Full Version : The boards are abuzz about Blur replacing Winehouse

PierogiHead

Ever since Winehouse backed out, my first thought was it would be perfect for Blur to replace her. Now that I've heard and seen a few other people getting in on the speculating, I wonder if there's any strong chance in it. I think this would make the solidest of any possible replacements. Let's make it happen, GV...

sounds good.. But they wont replace Amy, they will just be added as headliners!
and then we'll get the knife or something like that to replace Amy.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this one...their comebacks gigs are announced for the UK and I doubt they would do a comeback show in the US-they have never had much universal love for the US and vice versa.

Sad but true... but GV does have a love for UK acts.

do you know how bands get billed?

Blur is not a headlnier nor is the Knife "subheadliner" status.

mmmm,neh.

i dont like blur for a replacement-Saturdays mainstage is butter-soft
-its not edgy enough
-and that wasnt a reference to u2

where is the edge on other days? The Cure? MBV? Morrissey? Paul McCartney? Leonard Cohen? I'd say blur are edgier than all those names.

considering that Saturday's Mainstage is the weakest-it needs an edgier act-
-Pearl Jam
-Stone Temple Pilots
-NIN
-Faith No More

just one of these would balance things out-im not talking aesthetically here- sonically.

The Killers WILL headline, deal with that

Super ignorant comment if you didn't actually attend one of their shows last year.

*I really hope you aren't one of the fanboys/girls that wants a NIN headliner knowing damn well NIN has gone down hill since his clean up.

Well, I could have, considering tickets for those shows were practically being given away for free. And yeah, With Teeth and Year Zero were so terrible that I never bothered to listen to the ten thousand Ghosts songs that have been released since then.

Sorry, but I saw STP last September and it was one of the lamest performances I had ever seen. I used to be an STP fan, after that show I can no longer listen to them. Where ever STP play, you will find me far far away.

However, Faith No More would blow my mind. Pearl Jam and NIN would also be awesome. However, Im betting Pearl Jam headline a day next year. Out of the 4 you listed, NIN is most likely.

Boourns
03-11-2009, 11:04 AM
Pearl jam can't headline because that is when daft punk, Bowie, arcade fire will headline.

Saturday needs something rare and special. Something that everyone hasn't just seen, or can this summer.

I can back up Boourns- I was at one of those shows last year, and he was wasted and shouldn't have been performing. The best part of the show was laughing at his sloppiness.

No, the boards are not, in fact, abuzz about Blur replacing Winehouse. As fun as that would be, it isn't happening, nor is there any rational basis to think that besides "ERRRRR... DEY'RE REUNITING THIS SUMMER!!!", get it right.

i think that blur is a great fit....

i also agree with the STP comments, in fact most bands mentioned in that post are virgin radio type acts, nothing edgy about that at all.

more britpop is needed at cochella

Outside of PJ, those are categorically terribly suggestions (even though the last two seem to be highly coveted by message board visitors).

And I'm still not convinced PJ is right for Coachella ... great rock, but wrong vibe.

So, let me get this straight.

You guys all feel that because Amy Winehouse dropped out Goldenvoice is obligated to find a specific replacement for her, as opposed to just putting an artist already on the lineup in her spot and moving some things around.

And further, you guys feel that they would replace subheadliner Amy Winehouse with some sort of headlining act, or perhaps even an ultra-rare reunion act like Blur or Faith No More?

And then finally, none of you have EVER been laid?

Ok, just making sure.

whatever-
i havent seen them, but i dug them in the mid 90's before they broke

some lame labeled them 'post-grunge',thats typical-
someone reads a magazine and all of a sudden they think can tag any band w/the sub-genre of their choice,besides,post-grunge is pure bullshit-bands like creed/nickel back/puddle of mudd and the like-the ones that tainted all things grunge

fuck it,Stone Temple Pilots were a decent alternative/hard rock-not necessarily tried and true grunge but they were at some point relevant, not the greatest band for the job today-but its not like its not completely put of the realm of possibility, for me,its better than the killers

there i said it

The difference between Blur and The Killers is people would actually fly out of town/state/country just to see Blur because they don't play theaters in every city and every other festival/radio show in the world like the Killers.

But it's not happening because they hate America.

JewFace
03-13-2009, 11:35 PM
I heartily endorse the call for Blur to be added. Unlikely, I agree. But that would be magic.

I know it gets mixed reviews, but 13 is an album I carry with me from my formative years. From the hymnal 'Tender' to the hypnotic 'Caramel'. Albarn's got soul.
