No money, just a heroin trade off for an hour of her time.

did they play live in 2005?

I never took the chance to look at the poster/flyer to see. I remember watching them and from what I saw, it definitely looked like more of a live performance than just a dj set.

I gotta say ive seen Groove armada so many times over the years...Museam of flying in santa monica...the hollywood bowl...Coachella twice...Nocturanal wonderland...City hall..im a big fan... but i gotta say..there DJ set's are far superior...theres just something so great about there song selection...

Now the Bros? Ive never seen em DJ..when they were @ coachella DJing i was witnessing the Orb Disaster on acid..eating a hamburger, one tent over..so i dont know..

trust with Armada there the opposite of Basement Jaxx whos live shows are KILLER compared to there DJ sets...there totally diffrent..

Lets try not to be so Rock Band Indie about the whole thing and admit that a DJ set does have the Possibility of being better than a live set...Electronic music as we know it became what it was through DJ culture...lets not forget my friends...

Add me. Once the list gets long enough you should send and post links to this thread anywhere they might possibly see it. I know Groove Armada are really involved with their shit, because of the new Bacardi label thing they've got going on. Much less chance The Chems give a shit.

Also, the fact that they are both doing DJ sets probably has more to do with $$$ than anything else. For an electronic act, doing a DJ set costs much less money for the artists to actually do, so they make more money in the end.

Easy, for some acts it's just more cost-effective and sensible to do a DJ set. GV didn't HAVE to get more bands on the bill, so it's people like you who need to shut the fuck up and stop whining.

BlueDevil50

The atmosphere, the anticipation, the fact that Chemical Ed has more talent in his pinky than that hipster fuck could ever hope to achieve? Yes, the Chemical Brothers are known for their production, for their OWN songs and what-not, and yeah, I am slightly disappointed that my first time witnessing two of my dance music heroes will be slightly scaled down from the videos I have seen of them performing live, but for fuck sake we now have something to look forward to opposite the Killers. And if that isn't a blessing enough for you, then there's something seriously fucking wrong with you.

You are all a bunch of idiots...like its gonna sound any different...im sure some of you nerds are gonna be like "yeah the 16bit quality of cds aren't gonna sound as good or have the "warmth" of the original gear they used"...but thats bullshit...the only thing that really matters is how well the sound engineers calibrate those huge speakers in the tent beforehand...and they always do a stellar job...so fuck off!

either way they are just hitting play...and maybe, just MAYBE twidleling some filters...they are not REALLY playing live...they aren't hitting the actual notes and staying in time...its ALL programmed...and then they shake their heads a little bit...like they are actually into what they are doing...

you guys are a bunch of fuckoffs...dont get me wrong, i liked "Block Rocking Beats" too...BUT OVER 10 YEARS AGO!!!! their shit is outdated and stale...how about the new hot shit??? all of you NEED to expand your horizons...

dude the thing that bugs me is not that they didnt get a cool addition. it just means it will be another 3-4 years before the chems and ggroove armada are back in the states again finally with a live set and probably playing in a place that isnt close to me. so it just feels empty to bring them over and waste them as an act without even letting them brnig their full power. cuz you know they arent gonna have them play back to back years at this point

i already talked to one of the people at golden voice about the chems playing last year and she said that they get the feeling that the chems play too often so they try not to have them around as much anymore

This debate pisses me off. Seriously you people need to stop being whiny, self entitled babies. It was annoying enough hearing Chemical Brothers requested every second post. Now they get booked and you complain? Jesus. Passive and ELPOLLOLOCO are right on this one. As is feather but she put it a little more nicely. GA and the Chems will DJ and people need to start getting excited about what they are getting, not what they are missing.

I eat, sleep, breathe, and shit electronic music bro...wtf does EXTRA AWESOME even mean?...cause they got a bunch of worthless gear on stage? did any of you dimwits even stop to think about why they are playing a dj set...you fuckwads think Paul called them up and was "Yeah, I wanna bring you guys over but without all the synths and racks and mixing board...just bring your cd booklet"...THAT IS HOW THEY WANT TO PLAY...why would you want to deter an artist from using the medium they want to express themselves in...if they are feeling spinning right now, thats how they feel...they will probably bring it harder that way anyway...

I actually think its a great idea...the same way I would feel about seeing Daft Punk with nothing but 2 tech12's and a mixer...fuck all the other bullshit...how do you think all these fools started?

Oh and by the way...when you made a reference to BT i realized to you haven't even broken the surface as far electronics music goes...i have been interested in the scene since the mid 90's and never liked a BT album OR live show...and not even Chemical Bros that much either for that matter...like i said before "Block Rocking Beats" was cool over 10 years ago...but not cool enough to be all butthurt over them spinning instead of doing a live gig...the game has grown and flipped 10 fold since these guys made a splash...

omgomgogmogmomg don't voice your opinion on a message board about anything.

ELPOLLOLOCO - STFU

You obviously don't know what you're talking about, seriously. Do you really think the sound quality isn't better when they play live? Do you really think the overall set-up is the same for a dj set as it is LIVE? Do you think them playing live isn't a bigger deal? If you answered yes to any of those questions, go fuck yourself. lol. Do you not realize that the people asking for a live performance by one of the BIGGEST electronic acts of all time (yeah I said it) from one of the BIGGEST concert promoters in the USA is that far fetched. I mean for gosh sakes, how dare anyone even voice their opinion and their slight disappointment. No one's saying they're not excited for a chemies DJ set, but people are saying they'd like a live set better.

p.s. anyone who really appreciates electronic music wouldn't say "a bunch of worthless gear on stage" in regards to an act that properly uses it like the chemies do LIVE. How they started, how about...HOW THEY MAKE THE FUCKING MUSIC.

p.s.s. Stop bitching about people bitching, how about that endless cycle....

GO!

ELPOLLOLOCO
03-12-2009, 08:24 PM
Oh little deez...your so cute when you get feisty!

First off, all that gear that makes your little pecker hard is worthless when its just sitting there for show...You ever been to Chemical Bros. "live" show before? I have...and it wasn't nothing but a bunch of airmixing...kinda like holding a pretend guitar and wishing you where Eddie Van Halen...because if you think that these dope heads are the best electronic act ever then you probably think that Van Halen is awesome...You fucking idiot...dont say "for gosh sakes" either...you sound like my grandma...if you get all happy off a big stage setup then be my guest...Im much more interested in hearing what they are currently listening to than a bunch of lights and gear...

and honestly, I really dont care...Im just having fun calling you all tards...if you are allowed to voice your dissapointment, Im allowed to talk about your mom's 12" penis...she tried pulling it on me and I had to beat her down...

Sorry.. Imagine if they booked your favorite band, but instead of having them play, they just had them dj other bands songs.

Oh little deez...your so cute when you get feisty!

First off, all that gear that makes your little pecker hard is worthless when its just sitting there for show...You ever been to Chemical Bros. "live" show before? I have...and it wasn't nothing but a bunch of airmixing...kinda like holding a pretend guitar and wishing you where Eddie Van Halen...because if you think that these dope heads are the best electronic act ever then you probably think that Van Halen is awesome...You fucking idiot...dont say "for gosh sakes" either...you sound like my grandma...if you get all happy off a big stage setup then be my guest...Im much more interested in hearing what they are currently listening to than a bunch of lights and gear...

and honestly, I really dont care...Im just having fun calling you all tards...if you are allowed to voice your dissapointment, Im allowed to talk about your mom's 12" penis...she tried pulling it on me and I had to beat her down...

van halen, lol.

The high production costs come in to play if the Chems do a live set! then add the currency rate when they finish the show and well... you get the picture

Since the Chems are working on a new album, DJ sets are what they do. I'd love to see them live but this appears to be their policy. I doubt PT approached them and asked specifically for a DJ set. I'd love to see it happen but I seriously, seriously doubt it will.

There are so many things wrong with this rant I'm not even sure where to begin. First off, it's not like The Chemical Brothers, when asked if they will play, said, "Well, sure, but there is no fucking way we are going to do it live". It's a decision that usually comes down to one very simple thing: monetary payment. If you look at a group, let's take hybrid for example, and look at their touring schedule you'll notice something. At smaller venues, they will tend to dj, while at larger ones they will play live. The bigger the show, the greater chance they will play live. Pretty simple shit. This is exactly why so many people (I would assume) are up in arms against this seemingly lame cop-out. GV can get The Chems to do pretty much whatever they ask. Trust me on this. The Chems are not djing simply because they think it would be fitting. They are doing it because it is less work.

As far as everyone starting out as dj's, this is about as true as saying all groups start off as garage bands. True enough in EDM most people mess around with turntables at some point, but these guys are not known for their mixing skills. They might be decent (or better than that) at djing but it is not their primary talent.

And yes, bt is a shallow example from the EDM scene. I was merely saying he was less than great when I saw him. Truth be told, most EDM acts that I have seen live have been amazing. Royksopp, MA, Pendulum, Hybrid, Daft, Justice, etc. It would be nice to add these guys to the list.

In the end, it all comes down to this: Why are we all travling to the middle of the desert in the middle of April? To see a diverse collection of artists play at their best. At least, that's a big part of it. Yes The Chemical Brothers dj set will probably be quite good, but I doubt I would be able to distinguish it from any other solid dj on a given night in the city.

I read about their tendency to do DJ sets during the creation of an album somewhere...forget where. But the last time I saw them at all was in 2001 at Coachella and they were finishing up "Come with Us" at the time...that was a DJ set.

That's interesting, and I bet there is some truth to this. But again, like I stated, if GV wanted them to play live (and were willing to pay) The Chemical Brothers would, in fact, play a live set.

omgomgogmogmomg don't voice your opinion on a message board about anything.

GO!

I signed the petition because if it happens i'm down because i have not seen it and i have heard chemical brothers can't mix for shit, but on the real "LIVE" sets are actually pre-recorded and edited on stage which means nothing is being produced live right in front of you. So in my personal opinion because of that fact i would consider a DJ set more of a LIVE set than an actual live set simply because it's live mixing not done in a studio with time to rewind it and perfect it before hand.

That would be true for most live sets, but when the chemical brothers play live they do in fact play live. They have everything stripped down to parts of the track (drum samples, etc) to utilize them when they want (granted MOST of the time they keep the arrangement similar to the release), and sometimes even *gasps* use parts of tracks they didn't put in the actual release. So all in all, seeing them live is more live, but I know what you're getting at.

The WATN tour started in 07 and ended last year in August 08! That's a long time touring, so after the last 'WATN Live' show ended in Olympia, the Bros took a very well deserved vacation and I personally feel that they had every right to rest and relax ( Tom is married and has 3 kids so I totally understand from his point of view.)

When 2009 came around, I didn't expect any touring whatsoever from the guys, but I expected maybe a few dj sets here there but nothing major because as far as I'm concerned, their still on vacation, so for Tom and Ed to come out to do dj gig in Coachella makes me feel very appreciative and thankful!

As for the future, I would expect a new album in which I predict will happen somewhere in early 2010. Maybe an EP before this year! But I don't mind waiting becuase T and E always have something up there sleeve.

Any of you who think that Paul CHOSE to have these hacks play a DJ set because of money need to wake up...these guys cost 100k at most (and that's me exagerating, a lot)...compare that to the MILLIONS that Paul McCartney, The Cure and the shitty Killers are getting...NO!!! This is what these guys wanna do right now...They DO consider themselves DJs...so I ask again: Who the fuck are you PEGBOYS to tell an artist what medium to use to express themselves...

Interesting Fact: During Medievil times there was an underground homosexual subculture. Many Royalty and Upperclass where in fact gay. To appease these monarchs there were young boy-prostitutes...These young boys were often referenced as PEGBOYS because they would sit on wooden pegs so they would be ready for when it was time to work.

Wheres the beef?

For me it comes down to song selection. I don't have the time or patience to debate the ins and outs of a "live set" vs a "dj set".

I want to hear Do It Again, Star Guitar, Midnight Madness, Hey Girl Hey Boy, etc. With a dj set-I would think-I'm less likely to hear these songs from the chemical brothers and more likely to hear them from Busy P.

But hearing what songs they do decide to play, whether their own or something from somebody else, it will be great either way.

Wheres the beef?
