Underworld website says they are doing a show on May 1. Maybe they start their tour with Coachella? Can't hurt to hope......

Yes the live show is one of the best I've seen (I've been lucky enough twice).
There's a movie out of one of their shows - it's not the same as being there but I enjoyed it. You might want to check it out.

Did you try the first two? Much more uptempo. Dubnobasswithmyheadman and Second Toughest in the Infants. Try it you'll like it!

Well, no I call that one "medium music" - the others are similar or a little more downtempo. Did you like "Cowgirl" (everything everything) - that's certainly not sleep material. Nor is "Rez".

I guess we all have our own taste

If you've seen Underworld in the 90s.. they are one of the best acts you will have ever seen. If you've seen Underworld in the 00s. They are overrated.

Unfortunately they lost a step somewhere along the way. There is/was a reason for their reputation.

That's not to say they aren't a good act anymore. They just aren't THE act they once were.

you need to see them do a headlining gig. That APW show wasn't the place for them.

Well if you thought it was good, then just wait till you see them in a dance tent/indoor venue at night. Just unbelievable.

I traveled from Houston to Boston a couple years ago just to see Underworld live. It was a fucking amazing show and worth every penny to make the trip. For those of you doubting their greatness, download the Everything Everything live album and you will change your mind. They are brilliant live.

The best thing about this clip is that the "Rez" part was so rare - from what I understand they didn't always play it and it is not on a proper CD album (only imports and CD single I think)

So when I heard that live at Hollywood Bowl in '07 I actually cried.

Another cool thing about Underworld (can you tell I'm a fan I can't stop talking about them!) is that most of their lyrics are a sample of random things they heard people say on the tube etc

Depending on the person and the chances of my being caught, I'd help. I really want to see them live :(

And that rez/cowgirl Fuji Rock clip is ridiculously awesome.

i really don't care about underworld. sure they're good musicians, but it all seems to be a lot of hype and all-in-all is outdated. is it me or do half the people on this message board still live in 1997?

redthreat: I feel the same way all the time about electronic acts requested on here. I think the major problem is that electronic music is more of a "singles" and "producer" market and most people take the "album" and "band" concept from say rock music and try and apply it to EDM. The fact that the majority of the "album" acts from the 90s are more well known and requested than say some of the biggest and best current producers is as much a fault of dance music culture than anything else.

People often forget too that a lot of this music was never meant to be played "live" which is where DJing comes into play. The producer has an avenue for playing out his/her work.

I agree. While I love Underworld and their live show - I'd take a good DJ (preferably spinning vinyl) any day.

@DonaldJ: the problem is all of these "old schoolers" who really don't know dick about music aside from what they were rolling to in highschool thinking that because they saw underworld ten years ago they are somehow better than everyone else that is now listening to music.

kids flaming on me for saying that zombie nations latest album is really good. they dont need to listen to new stuff if they have already made up their mind that they hate the artist. meanwhile, they'll praise the prodigy album that sucks just because their older albums are standards. thankfully these kids will soon be phased out because they probably aren't going to the smaller shows that will someday replace these headliners once their time is through.

as their alienation grows, they'll get more and more bitter and hostile towards a music scene that they are excluding themselves from. for reasons related to shit like skinny jeans, when 10 years ago they were probably sitting in the corner at a bassment jaxx show with a pacifier doing glowstick shows. thankfully i feel secure enough in what i do like to keep listening to new music and expand my tastes, rather than put underworld's discography on repeat for the rest of my life. these old-schoolers just can't get TOO old fast enough.

I believe it is possible to listen to and enjoy lots of different music - old-school and new stuff. Why do you think it is mutually exclusive?

Donaldj
03-02-2009, 02:53 PM
The ironic thing I find is that the majority of the people requesting 90s album acts are in fact younger people. It would make more sense if it was all old schoolers requesting The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Underworld etc but that's not the case at all. This just reinforces my idea that people cling to "albums" because they represent some sort of complete tangible thought which is not what dance music is about.

For the record I don't think the new Prodigy album is that bad at all. It's not amazing and it's nowhere near revolutionary like some of the others but it's not terrible.
