Ok, the rumor is that DM is playing in the Re-opening of The Joint, in Las Vegas on april 16th, if that will be true... it will be crazy to not believe that they will be headliners on Saturday, because they're making this big europe tour on may, june... i dont think theyre comming to the States, just for Re-opening of a little bar (thats a couple of miles of coachella).

...and the new album comes out the week of coachella. So they want the US press.

DEPECHE MODE WILL BE THE BEST PICK FOR SATURDAY!

a band is playing one of the big vegas venues on april 16th. i don't know its Depeche Mode though.
my partner was doing something at one of the venues that day, but they phoned a week ago to say they just got a prior booking. this perked my ears up since bands regularly do vegas/coachella that weekend. i tried to press intriguing questions but to no joy.

The White Stripes are the little band that could of but didn't!

Coachella has put bands in the coveted spot that don't jive before so it's entirely possible. It would entirely SUCK, but it's possible.

As for comparing them to U2 or David Bowie? Someone needs to go back to the School of Rock!

U2 had this really little record called "Joshua Tree" that did kinda alright in the late 80's. Like 20 years ago and they are still selling out stadiums like nobody's business.

David Bowie had his first hit record in the mid 70's. He also had a little record called "Let's Dance" in mid 80's. He too sells out stadiums like nobody's business.

The White Stripes? I can't even recall the name of their albums. The impact they've made on pop culture is noteworthy but no where near DB or U2.

It's hilarious that someone would think so!

As far as Depeche Mode goes.... The Killers have nothing on them and if Depeche Mode wants to play on Saturday they will. Somebody said that they didn't like performing Coachella last time. That's a crock of shit. They did have issues with dust, etc. but everybody does. Martin Gore and David have both been quoted to have loved the crowd and historically their Southern California fan base is their biggest and most adoring. Ask any Depeche Mode fan and they will tell you that if they know what their talking about.

It would be a perfect fit for the weekend and it would take the crap meter down for Saturday night.

DJ: "there's a rumor that you're going to be asked to play Coachella again this year"

DG: "for next year you mean..or this year?"

DJ: "this year because there's one band missing."

DG: "what's the date of Coachella?"

DJ: "April 18th"

DG: "uuuhhh..I think April the 18th..where are we on April the 18th..I think we are rehearsing..well you never know, yeah you never know..(DJ: "hmm, surprises)..could be something our manager hasn't told us yet so I can not deny the rumor."

there's something very intriguing about the way he says "so I can not deny the rumor" and then the DJs laugh as if they know something.

Rabid fans, album sales, dollar figures, longevity? I don't think Radio Head could even touch Depeche Mode in these figures 30 years from now

That'd be nice if they came back and I can finally see them for the first time at Coachella. I could cross them off my to-do list.

I was planning on going to Lollapalooza in August but since they will be in Seattle on August 10th, I'd have to consider changing vacation plans, stay home and buy tickets for that instead of going to Chicago. Ah...decisions decisions

the following acts are (A)either ready to go on tour or touring at the time of coachella, and (B) have the date(s) available and open, making it way more likely they'll be added:

Neil Young
Depeche Mode
Bruce / E Street Band
Britney Spears

just saying, since the acts are out and promoting, it
makes them more likely additions than, say, daft punk or david bowie (although i'm all for the Bowie)

...not that they will be added, not that i'm making predictions. just trying to help put word out there

dave gahan is too much of an attention whore to ever call it quits. at most, they'll go on temporary hiatus for solo projects; and then they'll promptly realize they need each other, blahdy fuckin blah...

it would be great if they showed up, but it's late in the game and this is something that they would want to announce and draw an audience to. i would love it, but it just isn't going to happen.

Why not a "Curiosa" mini-fest type tour with Depeche Mode headlining and all openers would be bands that owe a debt to DM. Would be way better than the mismatched openers they've had over the years (even though I love Poe and The Raveonettes, just did not fit)...who'd be in your lineup?? Please discuss (this is also a good way for me to learn about DM-influenced bands i might like that I haven't heard of before).

i never said that they said "this tour is our last tour". What i said was grammatically correct...every tour is their last tour, just not the "THE LAST" tour.

I was actually alluding the what you've seen on DMMB (breakup rumors), which eventually gets reported in the media (we're used to that here on the Coachella board, right???) and everyone panics that DM is going to break up.

sorry for feeding that frenzy, i just think it's funny how protective DM fans are. I love them too though.

Curiosa should seriously happen again....The Cure could bring MBV and take Mogwai along again. I never had a chance to see the last one. that last line up was pretty nice:

Curiosa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Curiosa

Location North America (touring)
Years active 2004
Date(s) July 24 to August 29
Genre Alternative rock

Curiosa is the name of a 2004 concert tour in the United States and Toronto (Canada), organized by Robert Smith of The Cure. It began with a concert in West Palm Beach, Florida on July 24 and ended in Sacramento, California on August 29.

The headlining bands were The Cure, Interpol, The Rapture, and Mogwai. The concert had two stages, with the same main-stage line-up for the entire tour, and a rotating set of bands on the second stage (four per show).

The second stage bands included Muse, Cursive, Thursday, The Cooper Temple Clause, Scarling., Melissa Auf der Maur, and Head Automatica.

While attendances were lower than expected, Curiosa was still one of the more successful American summer festivals of 2004.[1]

I went to the Curiosa show at the Home Depot Center. It was really good. The gate to the Pit broke down during Interpol and they had to delay The Cure coming out to flush out the people in there, and it's the concert that made me love The Rapture, but for some odd reason we left like halfway into the Cure's set. And we had won the tickets on a radio station so they were really good seats. I'm glad coachella is letting me rectify that regret I've had of leaving their set list early.
