Arcade Fire would be such a weak headliner. Let them come up with two more albums, at least. Preferably albums more on par with Funeral than Neon Bible.

Muse would be a decent Friday headliner if there are some amazing Saturday and Sunday headliners.

boarderwoozel3
02-16-2009, 02:24 PM
If Arcade Fire's next album is on par with the first two I say let'em headline. Muse does seem likely though, I hope so anyway.

And yeah, Bowie, Gorillaz, Outkast, The Smiths, Radiohead, Daft Punk, blah, blah, blah, etc. None of those will happen.

This we would be good for '10. Muse needs to return to the festival, as does Arcade Fire. I think Muse has a new album coming out this year, right?

As far as I know, yeah. Arcade Fire too, with a bit of luck, but they'll certainly be ready to rock in time for Coachella next year.

Anyone who has seen Muse live would agree that, although it would be unpopular, they would be the perfect Sunday headliner in 2010. Very few other bands would give you a full 2 hour set that is at the same level of face meltation to close the festival out.

MissingPerson
02-16-2009, 03:21 PM
Muse do put on a sturdy light show alright.

Although, I dunno would I stick it out for a whole two hours again.

And uh, Muse unpopular...? Really...?

Not unpopular as a band, unpopular as the pick for Sunday headliner.

Ah yes, fair enough. After all, they'd need to be thirty years past their prime to be considered acceptably accomplished. These are, apparently, the rules.

Muse aren't going to develop beyond what they've already done, I don't think. They've gotten as big as they'll ever get. If they don't qualify as headliners on the strength of what they've done already, they won't ever.

Arcade Fire's trajectory still depends on their next album, I'd say. It's still up in the air for them to a certain extent.

The difference between Arcade Fire and Jack Johnson is AF's fanbase is more of the obsessive let's-go-sweat-in-the-desert-for-three-days kind of freaks. That, and way more exciting music.

muse > killers
arcade fire > jack johnson

done?

headliners!

deal :)

here's the issue though, jack johnson was the lame 08 headliner and the killers are the lame 09 headliner

and since muse is compared to the killers
and arcade fire to jack johnson, that's comparing them to the lame headliners. and coachella can only afford one lame headliner a year, they need room for the good ones like waters and macca and prince

psycobetabuckdown

Arcade Fire appeals almost exclusively to people who would go to Coachella anyway. If they come out with another "Rebellion" and regular people start talking about them (they currently don't) they might be big enough to headline. Muse, on the other hand, is ready. Overdue by 2 years, even.

Guaranteed Arcade Fire is ready to headline major festivals (including Coachella) in 2010. To think otherwise is foolhardy. They were a Coachella second headliner back in 2007, and they'll take that step up in 2010.

Besides if freakin' Killers can headline Coach on their third album, so can Arcade Fire.

Any truth to the CoS article of a new AF album in 2010?

MissingPerson
10-24-2009, 09:27 AM
I'm pretty sure the COS album's sources are mainly the Arcade Fire fan forum, specifically Joel, who's done some outstandingly crafty detective work over the last few days. But yeah, new album late Spring/ early Summer and their touring status has gone to "TBA:2010" after being "Unavailable" for two years.

We've been told not to expect any concrete stuff until the new year, but their Facebook, Twitter, and booking agency pages have all come to life in the last week, and details, we're told, are "forthcoming."

Owen Pallett's given the impression that his bit is already done and dusted, and the rest of the band are currently recording in The Magic Shop (http://www.magicshopny.com/) studio in New York.

Jesus...

Spot the difference.

So. Is that a yes to the new album in 2010? If so maybe Coachella?

and for the record: I for one would be quite happy with Arcade Fire as a headliner.

EDIT: going forward all mention of Enrique is banned from the board. I can't believe I actually watched some of the video.

MissingPerson
10-24-2009, 09:40 AM
Yes for the album, definitely.

The only question is whether or not they'll have it packed up and ready to roll in time for Coachella; I have my doubts.

EDIT: Reading the COS article now; I can't help gloating; they're not taking from the forum, or they'd have more to say. Booya.

I think it's safe to say their first first show back is probably going to be a charity or highschool affair again like before (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/jill_valentine/qpage5.jpg) anyway, so that doesn't bother me overmuchly.

Even I can't begrudge charity dependants or highschool kids, and I'm completely incapable of basic human empathy.

My concern is that even if they do have the album done and dusted in time for Coachella, they'll still want to do all the warm up stuff, and it just won't fit. I'm planning on chasing them around as long as they're going next year, so if they were to swing by Coachella in the meantime, I might be able to kill two birds with one loan....

Um, are you kidding me? AF were sub-headliners in 07 right before RHCP and the crowd was so tightly packed in I couldn't breathe. 40% of them cleared out when AF left the stage. They sell out every show they play in minutes and their venue size doubled in just 2 records. Yes, they most definitely could headline.

If we get an Arcade Fire - Pavement - Muse festival I will combust.

Muse already has, what 5 or 6 albums? If they were ever gonna be big enough to headline, they already would be.

Arcade Fire has only been getting bigger over the years. We saw them at the Hollywood Bowl. The Bowl was packed. I don't see why with another album, these guys couldn't headline.
