My friends and I have four extra days around the festival and we're driving in from Vancouver, so we have a car. Just wondering what we should do with our extra time? Six Flags? Beaches?

better yet, trip on LSD and then go to Disneyland. Those are the only conditions I can encourage entering that hell hole in.

You should go see Arcade fire the day before coachella in San Diego. I wish I could.

You MUST try this place...

Tokyo Delve's Sushi Bar,
5239 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA
818.766.3868
A hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant on Lankershim near Universal Studios...looks like a bar...heavy wooden door...but inside is one of the most surreal sushi bars you'll ever see. Crazy neon wearing sushi chefs...a wheel that they spin on the wall that (if it selects your table number) wins you free food...the sushi chefs sing along to the music, which ranges from Beastie Boys to hardcore punk rock. It'd be the place to do Sake' bombs and mack on locals until the place closes down...seriously. I've driven up there from San Diego JUST to go to that place.
Seriously...try it.

VIP Records in Long Beach. Then stand on the roof with hoes like Snoop does in his videos.

That sushi place sounds awesome. Definetly take your advice on that one. I'll be staying in LA before and after Coachella so anything attractions in the area would be a plus. I have been to Disneyland, although not on LSD, and Universal Studios so cross those of the list. I'm really looking for something thats cool and original. I saw some pics of people on the office set, although I think they snuck on, that would be amazing. More suggestions.........

Go to LA. Go to Amoeba records. If you don't want to get a hotel room, don't worry. Me and my friend spent the night in LA in my car. We made a fort and had screw drivers as weapons. Lots of bums though.
Also a lot of thrifty stores over there.
Go to Santa Monica beach.
Or if you want to go to San Diego, do that too. Go down to La Jolla. There's a place called the children's beach where a bunch of wild seals hang out and poop everywhere. Smells lovely.
And if you want to spend a little extra cash go to sea world, wild animal park, universal studios, or hey, maybe even request tickets for the Tonight Show. Hopefully there won't be shitty guests.

Honestly, split your time; 2 days Vegas, 2 days in LA. Vegas hotels are easy to come by. When I'm in LA, I like the Cadillac Hotel:

www.thecadillachotel.com/

It's right on Venice Beach, right around $100/night. Used to mainly be a Euro-student hotel.

Dunno if that helps...

Cheers,

For a spot right across the street from CBS studios & the Farmers Market, I used to stay at the Farmers Daughter Motel on Fairfax in Hollywood. Cheap rooms and relatively clean. You can probably google it to get the number.

If you go to LA, Venice/Muscle Beach is the place to go for some serious people watching. Definitely check out joshua tree if your'e into hiking or climbing. There's a cool indian casino near Palm Springs with a huge outlet mall if youre too lazy go go any farther (Morongo). If you want to go somewhere gross, go to the Salton Sea.
or what the hell...you just drove down from Canada. Go to Mexico...Rosarito (south of TJ) is cool.
If you just want to go to the beach, heading towards San Diego will get you there faster...just because of traffic. Del mar and La Jolla are nice, Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach have more of a party vibe.

If you are only going to LA for a day, got to either Venice Beach to ride a bike or Hollywood Blvd for the cheesy Chinese theater and stuff.

Venice Beach is cool for graffiti heads...if you like that stuff there's some AMAZING pieces spread out all along Venice. Also, for people watching it cant be beat.

Yes love, American Cds will work in UK machines. They are not like PAL stuff.I buy imports from the MUTE RECORDS UK store all thetime.

There is a record store in Long Beach on the main shopping section thats up from the Jambo juice.. i'll see if i can get the name from my bf. There is also a great thrift store near there.

i liked the wild animal park better than both. cool safari thing

Yeah...Wild Animal Park is DOPE...especially if you get there right when they open. In the morning most of the animals are active. As the sun heats things up they usually retire to the shade and hide. So if ya wanna see the tigers & stuff up close, go early. Same with the Zoo.

You could head to San Diego and go to Old Town (where the city first started back in the 1800's) - cool old (for California) buildings and great Mexican food at Old Town Cafe (think that's the right name) - they make tortillas in the window fresh and have great carnitas.

The harbor is nice, old ships and navy ships you can tour, downtown is beautiful Petco park -check out a baseball game maybe - or bars and resturants in the gaslamp district. (a few tatoo parlors left as well). Or over the bridge to Coronado island and the Hotel Del and beach there.

In LA Venice beach and neighboring Santa Monica are the best (IMHO) - there's a hostel nearby www.lahostels.org you can book it online I think.

Have fun in SoCal if you choose to come here - it's great if you skip the touristy stuff.

And there's the Whaley House...widely recognized as the USA's most haunted house. You can tour it, and check out the backyard where the gallows used to be. Hehehe...
