I tried to buy tickets for 1 day and they are all gone!
If Manu Chao knew that this was a festival for rich american kids only, he would think twice about playing there.

Bullshit capitalists!

Yeah because they have never heard of Coachella and have no idea how much tickets are or who goes to it.

um. not all american kids are rich. case in point: about to enjoy a nutritious 25 cent pack of ramen.

but thanks for the sweeping generalization.

Get out of here with that ignorant junk. What do you want free tickets? Well than Manu Chao and all the other bands would have to play for free and he/they aren't so deal with it. So your hero Manu Chao is part of the "problem".

And I'll scalp you a one day ticket for MORE than the price of a three-day pass if you'd like. Idiot.

Manu Chao doesn't want to make money. That's why he plays concerts.

deadguy
02-12-2007, 06:57 PM
Well I don't know about the 'rich american kids', but Manu Chao does give out free massive concerts - last March he played the Zocalo in Mexico City (think the National Mall in DC) for 180,000 people; free of charge.

But yes he's clearly getting paid in Coachella. And we thank him for playing for us.

It'll be interesting to see what he says during the show.

The title of this thread reminds me, I was at a show about six months ago and there was some TERRIBLE American band playing, as the support act. They were so bad that an exodus was made for the bar, where random strangers united in conversation about how terrible the band were. The barmaid wrote down some of the lyrics because they were that trerrible - wannabe hippies with a rhyming dictionary and no actual tallent.
"What do you think", the lady next to me asks "Is the singer putting on an act, or is she really a bit insane?"
"I think she's the daughter of a really rich american family", I reply.
Everyone laughs and nods.

That doesn't make any sense. Despite what Douglas Adams and Terry Gilliam may convince you of, being British doesn't give you an excuse to yammer incoherently and call it humor, or even humour.

jackstraw94086
02-28-2007, 12:57 AM
Actually, Douglas Adams had some of the sharpest and most coherent humor I've ever read. And Terry Gilliam is American.

But aside from that, yeah, I agree with you.

ramen here is 10 for $1.

actually, in bay area there's probably hundreds of brands of ramen ranging from Top Ramen at $.10 that only white people buy up to semi-high end shit.

It's probably the only reason people live here.

fortydollarsworthofmeat
02-28-2007, 02:10 AM
i don't buy top ramen.. i buy something else. we've got like 3 brands here, and they're all the same price. 10 for a dollar.

anything over that general price range is no longer considered "ramen" in my book. it's considered "too fancy".

You do realize "ramen" is a generic term, right? You saying you don't consider anything fancier than Top Ramen to be "ramen" is like a Japanese person saying they don't consider anything better than McDonald's to be a "hamburger". Actually even that analogy is too soft.

Ramen and similar products are often criticized as being unhealthy or junk food. A single serving of instant noodles is high in carbohydrates but low in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Noodles are typically fried as part of the manufacturing process, resulting in high levels of saturated fat and/or trans fat. Additionally, if served in an instant broth, it typically contains the controversial ingredient monosodium glutamate (MSG) as well as a high amount of sodium, usually in excess of 60% of the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance.

you're doing the same thing Kristen is. "Ramen" just means noodles. You're referring to the cheap instant brands. proper ramen isn't made that way.

He did give a massive concert, but it wasn´t really free of charge because he did get paid by the Goverment of Mexico city, and well, we do pay taxes. At the end of the day Manu Chau likes to get payed just like everybody else, and there´s nothing wrong with that.

I've gotta agree with Jack here. Ramen can be a wonderful nutritious meal if you're talking about the fresh made stuff you get at restaurants or make at home, not the pre-packaged dried or cup-soup kind.

Although, I'm more of a pho kind of girl anyway.
