No removable lens, but does it count as an "audio recording device?"

Aren't cellphones audio recording devices?

no offense but please are you kidding .... no way .. do a search and you will get a long thread on what kind of camera you can take in ... no vids at all and yes, even cheap cameras and cell phones can take vids but not very good quality so consider yourself lucky you can take in a camera at all .. cr****

Damn I totally did look on the Rules / FAQ before posting.

I just somehow managed to overlook the "NO Video Cameras" line when it was the only thing I was looking for. I shouldn't get high and start thinking about Coachella.

Sneaking camcorders into the venue takes planning, the right kind of bag, and a little bit of luck when choosing which security search lineup to take.

Even if you do get your camcorder in, it better have a quality mic or have a good external mic or else the audio will sound like ass because of distortion.

On another note... I actually saw someone with one of those bigger HD cams heading towards the pit last year for Roger Waters and thought, "I'd sure like to find out how he got THAT in."

Red Scarlet. 3K professional HD video. Fits in one hand. Modular. Probably won't be released until late this year but would be sweet to see footage from Coachella with this baby.

Realistically the Sanyo Xacti 1010 or the Canon TX1 would work. I'm probably just going to bring my Kodak z1285 again.

I own a TX1. The video looks great, but you DEFINITELY will need a good audio recorder like an Edirol R-09HR if you want to be able to hear anything the resembles the songs being performed. the little mics on the TX1 can't handle the loudness of concerts. The audio just becomes a distorted mess.

Not to mention you'd also need a battery for every 30 minutes you want to record at 720p and a 16gig card for every hour you want to record.

I just ordered a new cam. Do any of you know if the canon powershot a590 series have decent mics?

Use your camera to get the video then go on dimeadozen and get an audio recording of the set, and sync them up. I haven't seen too many videos from Coachella, though every major headliner is taped. It's amazing how incapable people on this board are of answering a question, inane or otherwise, without hipster irony or just being an outright asshole.
