This. I really want to see Crystal Castles but am afraid they will be offered as counter-programming to the ageists whining about McCartney. And obviously they'd lose in a conflict with Cohen or Moz or Mac.

Yeah that sounds about right. But I think that McCartney will play a long Roger Waters type set and CC will play for just for 50 minutes. If that happens I'll see all of CC and maybe just an hour of McCartney.

Yea, Friday is a Scary Mess.

Any overlap of the following acts would be awful

Day 1:

(1st Tier)
Beirut / Los Campesinos! / Morrissey

(2nd tier)
Ting Tings / White Lies / M. Ward / We are Scientists

Day 2:

Fleet Foxes / Dr. Dog / TV on The Radio / Amy Winehouse (I so want to be there in person for the trainwreck)

Day 3 doesnt worry me.

(ps, this is my first coachella, so im not 100% sure how line ups work, or who normally plays when other than acts getting smaller to larger later in the day most often.)

That's my guess. Unfortunately it will probably be the last act putting them in that weird time between Morrissey and Mac, meaning one of them's got to go. And it's not gonna be Morrissey.

TVotR/Fleet Foxes/Band of Horses

OH GAWD PLEASE NO!

TV on the Radio and Fleet Foxes had two most acclaimed albums of year of any artists attending.

They will not be programmed against each other...no way, no how.

Also, I don't see Goldenvoice pulling a Roger Waters/Black Mountain against all the alt-Country acts on Saturday...as with dance acts going one after another, I expect Band of Horse/Fleet Foxes/Drive-By Truckers/Blitzen Trapper/Calexico to have virtually no overlap, but rather flow through early afternoon and early evening in a fairly linear fashion.

I would fully anticipate one of these five acts other than Fleet Foxes to be programmed against TV on the Radio (my guess is Drive By Truckers) and another Vs Amy Winehouse (my guess Band of Horses).

Friday has loads of conflicts, but agree the most concerning for me are Beruit/Los Campensinos scheduled head to head against either Hold Steady/Black Keys(I want to see all four of these acts in full)...and then all the edgy counterprogramming choices getting late gobi/mojave/sahara slots up against McCartney...Especially Crystal Method, Crystal Castles, and A Place to Bury Strangers.

Hopefully some of these acts will get slotted early in they day .If I was middle-level act with a limited following, I'd be pushing for as early a slot as possible, even though total attendance numbers are lower during first four hours. Walking in on Akron/Family (who were brilliant but played against Portishead, MIA and Animal Collective) and Black Mountain (vs. Roger Waters) who started their sets last year with no more than fifty people in the tents was just brutal.

My actual hope is that Goldenvoice recognizes that other than the Sahara acts, no one is going to win playing against Macca and just shuts down the other stages once he goes on.

betao
02-16-2009, 06:29 PM
Friday:

I'd hate to have to choose between A Place to Bury Strangers, Ghostland Observatory, Felix da Housecat, and Gui Boratto at anytime.

Saturday:

Right now, on Saturday, I only really want to see Thievery Corporation and Gang Gang Dance. I don't see them conflicting though.

Sunday:

Where do I begin. I'd like the following bands not to conflict with each other:

MBV
The Cure
Throbbing Gristle
Roni Size
Brian Jonestown Massacre
MANDY
Supermayer
Groove Armada
Public Enemy

However, I know that conflicts are inevitable, but do your best GV! You normally do a great job!

oh, and conflicts that are highly encouraged from me:

Paul McCartney vs. Girl Talk
Amy Winehouse vs. Thievery Corporation
The Killers vs. Thievery Corporation

make it happen!

In light of new additions, I've updated my list. Please...fucking pretty please, don't let these bands conflict:

Friday:

The Presets
Silversun Pickups
Ghostland Observatory
Felix da Housecat
Steve Aoki

Saturday:

Chemical Brothers
TVOTR
MSTRKRFT
Mastodon
Crookers
Bloody Beetroots

Sunday:

The Cure
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Orb
Etienne de Crecy
M.A.N.D.Y.

I recognize that most of my must sees are Sahara acts, so there should be no conflicts there. However, I am deadly afraid of a YYY vs. anything in the Sahara on Sunday...fuck.

Thanks for the adds Paul and GV. I'm fucking giddy!

Edmontonian
03-10-2009, 09:17 AM
I'm going to predict that on Sunday, Etienne de Crecy will close the Sahara, based on the fact that he has that huge cube setup and in the Paul Tollet interview in that coachella magazine online thing, he said the reason Crecy was added late was because they had to figure out the logistics of his live setup ie the cube.

I predict The Orb>Crecy, both conflicted with the Cure who will have a 2-2.5 hour time slot.

Every year I know more and more of the lineup when it is released. And, every year the conflicts get worse for me. In 06, I missed one band that I wanted to see(Ladytron). The last two years have been brutal with conflicts and this year is shaping up to be the worst yet.

It is possible to have too much of a good thing. The people still asking for additions either have no clue or have a very narrow taste for music.

I've got a few decades behind me so I've seen a lot of bands. I've seen Sir Paul before so I already know what Iím up against there, but then again he is 'Paul McCartney Former Beatle'.
My favorite for the entire Coachella is 'Crystal Castles' they have the most innovative sound I've heard in a long time (kind of reminds me of The Normal's - Warm Leatherette & TVOD, with a lot of the video game 'Ninja Gaiden'). I would be pissed if 'Crystal Castles' is up again Paul or Franz. If any new excellent bands like 'The Ting Tings', 'The Presets', 'Airborne Toxic Event', 'We Are Scientists', 'Noah & the Whale', 'Cage the Elephant' or 'Dear and the Headlights' conflict it will be more than slightly stupid it will SUCK!!!
For Saturday its a weak lineup except for 'The Killers' but I'd still like to see 'Ida Maria' & 'Glasvegas' otherwise it don't matter.
Sunday, I hope they don't have 'Friendly Fires' & 'Gaslight Anthem' conflict or later 'X' and any of the three top headliners, I won't miss 'The Cure' or 'Yeah Yeah Yeahs' but I'll go see 'X' over 'My Bloody Valentine'.
