Anyone else excited for this performance?
His solo album is pretty good, plus I have always liked Bright Eyes.

I saw them at Ameoba and at the Troubadour =) i heart him <3
BUT...I am hoping that they will not be playing at the same time as Leonard Cohen...and Conor is probably hoping not also.

I wonder how long before someone chimes in with:
"OMG HE'S NOT EMO! JUST BECAUSE HE HAS THAT WHINY YELL AND MYSPACE HAIR DOESN'T MAKE HIM EMO! THAT'S IGNORANT! I LUV CONOR 4 LYFE!"

I am surprised he is playing this year after the reaction to his 2005 set.

I won't be making an effort to see him, but this Mystic Valley Band thing isn't half bad.

it's a completely different project...the 2005 set was his ill advised Digital Ash set, which is worlds away from what he'll be playing now

he played in '04 and was pretty good

I saw him play at the music box, and it was one of his best performances I've ever seen. (and I've seen him 8 times)
He only plays solo stuff, which sort of limits his greatness. Hopefully his performance will go better then 2005.

NO NO NO. If you are at all interested GET TO THIS SHOW. I saw them in October and it was absolutely amazing. I think all five band members sang lead vocals on different songs, and they looked like they were having a great time. It's almost a cross between emo (if by that you mean lyrics that actually say something profound) and roots rock with a southwestern twang. I think Conor Oberst is a brilliant songwriter, but one of my favorite numbers was the cover of Kodacharome they did. It will be a shorter show at Coachella but I'm really hoping they do it. GO!

The Conor Oberst page on the main site (linked from the line-up page) has a pretty funny video. Is that Conor singing before his voice changed? Hope people don't make a decision based on that ...

I grew-up listening to Indie\Intellectual music, and somehow never crossed paths with Bright Eyes or Conor Oberst.

That is, until I met my GF a few years ago. He's a bit "too out there" for me to listen to for a long period of time, but I'm sure with more exposure, I will grow to love this guy.

I'm looking forward to seeing him live.

Anyone know if he's still hopped-up on drugs? Or has he gone straight edge by now (they always do, eventually... and then I call them a "sell out")...?

he will probably just play stuff off of his last album. he has the unfortunate tendency to do that, avoiding his better songs.

and unfortunately he is off drugs. his music was much better when he was coked out rather than concerned with mystics and weird spiritual shit

after seeing him numerous times (10ish) I've come to the sad realization that he rarely looks back into his catalog anymore and dusts off any old gems. Since I am way more into his early Bright Eyes stuff than the newer stuff that bores me, I decided last year that I won;t really go out of my way to see him again...

yeah, I know, all musicians want to promote the new album, but a healthy balance is essential for pushing the new stuff, while still appealing some to longtime fans.

He's playing Phoenix the Tuesday before Coachella for a mere $20 so I'm gonna go see him there 'cause with how stacked Friday is, I don't see him not conflicting with someone else I'd like to see. The only way he won't is if the main stage goes something like: Conor Oberst -> Leonard Cohen -> Franz Ferdinand -> Morrissey -> Paul McCartney. Which would actually be a pretty killer sequence in my opinion.
Where do y'all suppose he'll play? The last couple of times, he had prime slots at the Outdoor Theatre, which I think he's probably outgrown, so perhaps that order I listed above isn't too farfetched.
The one thing that's made me a big fan of his is the fact that the melodies and snippets of lyrics from random tracks off of Digital Ash still pop into my head even though I didn't really care for the album when it was initially released. I still think I'm Wide Awake was the better album (his best) and the last Bright Eyes record was a dip in quality, but it was still fairly solid. And yeah, this solo album has some tracks that have wormed their way into my head. Glad he's back at Coachella, just hope he's not sauced off his ass like in '05.

every bright eyes show I've seen he had dug up one or two songs from the vault, and it's been different ones each time. I kinda like the fact that each bright eyes tour has such little overlap. it keeps things interesting. although you are right, he usually draws heavily from his latest album.

but he did a tour in late 2005 (after the digital ash tour) whose entire purpose was to span his entire back catalog. the setlists covered everything from the earliest songs he'd ever released to songs so new they hadn't been released yet. every album got covered. it was fucking awesome. best bright eyes show ever. (sons & daughters were opening, which made it even better).

I'm really looking forward to his performance. I'm an on and off Bright Eyes fan, but my wife can't stand it. I started playing the Conor solo album in the car a while back and we both really enjoy it. It's much more upbeat than his Bright Eyes releases, which I think will make for an enjoyable performance. Really hoping he plays "I don't wanna die in a hospital."

i'm really not that into the band enough to know the members.. there was three of them including conor. i know the main hits, and it was all mainly obscure stuff I hadn't heard of, but the ticket was definitely bright eyes. i'd say half the audience (150) was guests , and no more than 200 tix were on sale after that 150 guests.. it probably would have been good for a super duper hardcore fan..I think they were just having some fun. MVB is not Conor's "solo stuff'...Bright Eyes IS Conor. It is all HIS music. MVB is just the new stuff. He is growing up so his music has evolved.I saw Conor and the MVB at ACL Festival, it was very good. Although, I was hoping to hear a couple Bright Eyes tunes. Hopefully he will realize that the Coachella crowd knows and loves his music, and he will treat us with some Bright Eyes jams.

I saw him in August at the Free Amoeba show in LA then the next night at the Troubadour and was hoping sooo bad that he'd cover just one song. I went with my best friend (also, an oberst obsessive) for his first concert experience and wanted him to hear at least one to no avail.

i saw him at amoeba and the fonda with mvb and i was impressed with both shows. the music is a different style from bright eyes but i think it's good and worth seeing. plus the musician he has on stage with him are great.

even though i like mvb, i still prefer him in bright eyes with mike. their shows at the bowl was one of the best i've been to. the strings made it amazing.

i wonder if m.ward is going to join conor on stage at any point. he opened for him at the bowl and played on stage with him for most of the casadega tour.

I have seen Conor live 6 times (Bright Eyes +Solo etc), and IMO this was one of his better performances. Conor and his band were great at Coachella, glad I saw this.

Love the new album and loved his set at Coachella. The new songs sounded great live. I kind of wish they would have played Bloodline (with Nik on vocals). That's my favorite song on the album. Still, it was a great set and I was able to get a great spot for Cohen.

He is definitely worth watching. Pick up both of his "solo" albums as well as the Bright Eyes albums I'm Wide Awake It's Morning and Cassadega.

while the bright eyes albums are good, he wont be playing any of that, so if you want a taste of what you are going to hear, get "conor oberst" and "outer south". and i suggest checking him out. i'll be there for sure. he was pretty great at coachella.
