I do like her, her cd is one of the few that I actually bought (at a thrift store) instead of just downloaded and I enjoyed her in 2007...but second billing? that's a stretch to say the least...

Yes, what he said. She blew up in the US once Back In Black came out. From what I've read, she's supposedly working on a new album, so hopefully we will hear some new stuff from her come April. I'm personally keeping my fingers crossed that she blows everyone away. :)

I'd rather see ac/dc. They have a better back in black album anyway.

And yes all their shit sounds the same and they're old as fuck. But you can't tell me that you wouldn't want to get drunk as hell and see ac/dc.

You could tell me, but I won't listen.

This is fail, Killers have been selling tons of records, and are popular. Not a stretch at all.

While I'll agree they aren't quite headliner status, comparing them to Amy Winehouses move up (especially when she hasn't released shit, and is a dumb crack whore) - is much more baffling.

I think her performance will rival Happy Mondays in '07 for sheer trainwreck allure. I regret the 30 minutes I wasted in the Sahara waiting for them to get their shit together, and I won't be making the same mistake with Amy unless she's the only act performing at the end of the night and I just have no desire to leave yet.

Seeing Tony Wilson was the only saving grace to that debacle. Shaun Ryder and the rest of the band were beyond awful.

she was billed way too low 2 years ago- I gave up on watching her set because that little tent was so f'in crowded.

By the way, what's with all the hatin' on Amy Winehouse, yet people LOVE fucked-up male train wrecks like Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre. Props to Amy for having the balls to be just as bad as the boys! Just stay alive til april, ok?

Yeah!
Why is everyone hatin' on her and amazed that she is at the top of the lineup?
She was wonderful @ Coachella a couple years back AND Back To Black is an incredible album!
Just because she's hooked on crack doesn't mean she isn't talented and that the production on that album isn't brilliant.
I'm actually very excited that Amy will be there this year.
I just hope she can keep it together long enough to actually make it to the show and, put on a great performance.

Saw her at Coachella a couple years ago. Granted, I was experiencing temporary psychosis from DXM overdose and heatstroke at the time, but I think I remember liking her set a lot...

Okay, there's only two things that could happen...

1) She makes a comeback, plays new material, and it is over all a great performance.

Example:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IlRF43-xaYc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IlRF43-xaYc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

2) She shows up on crack and horse tranquilizers and it's her last performance before her death from heroin overdose weeks later.

Example:
<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hyx4PY1bCF0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hyx4PY1bCF0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>

It's basically tantamount to a public flogging, or how everyone slows down to see the wreckage at the scene of a car crash. As far as I'm concerned it is the event for Saturday, and I can't wait to see what a hot fucking mess it's going to be.

I personally think Back to Black was one of the best albums of 2007. Her voice is beautiful. Yes she has personal problems, but I think she's a brilliant musician. Her SXSW performance in 2007 was phenomenal:

Totally agree. Thievery Corporation is on THE SECOND FUCKING LINE FOR SAT!!! As you can tell I'm not pleased about that. The top three names on Sat. are a joke at this point. Lets compare Sat. in the three day format:

2007: RHCP, Tiesto, Arcade Fire = AF alone make that sweet, the other two, while lacking in indie cred, are still huge acts
2008: (even before the Prince add) Deathcab, Kraftwerk, Portishead = Even before Prince was added this was legit
2009: The Killers, Amy Wienhouse, Thievery Corporation = ....

Crackhouse, the only reason she is first subhead--at this point--is her train wreck of a personal life. Back to Black was a great album but you need more than one hit to be that high at Coachella, on Sat. no less. Urggg.

There is obvious reason not to panic though. GV has demonstrated in recent years--barring 2007 which Rage sold out very quickly--that they like to add some big name(s) around March to keep the fests hype fresh. And we already know the Sahara is getting someone(s) added. So here's to hoping for Sat.

Sunday is legit at the top too. Friday last year still destroys this year's Sat. JJ or not.

but this year's friday is last year's saturday.

right. Its obvious there has been a shift in strategy. Get people there Friday and Sunday and they might want to just buy the 3 day pass and stay for saturday. So of course you are going to see a huge difference when comparing this saturday to previous years. Just compare this years friday with the last few years look at the difference.

The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Thievery Corporation
Jack Johnson, The Verve (one hit wonders in the states), Raconteurs
Bjork, Interpol, JAMC

This is all IMO but:

(not even counting JJ) The Verve, Racs, Fatboy >>> Killers, Winehouse, Thievery

Quite frankly I'm especially sour grapes about Thievery. I don't see them setting the Sahara off like a top billed act should.

boarderwoozel3

If you make it fair and eliminate both controversial headliners it get's a little closer:

hmm I've been assuming thievery corporation was going to play main stage at sunset. I could see it going either way though. Did you like Fatboy Slim? He didn't do much for me and I've only heard really good things bout thievery corporation live.
