SUPERMAYER!

It's Michael Mayer (owns/runs Kompakt) and Superpitcher, if you'd don't know check it out. They'll be DJ'ing, the don't do a live performance. Michael Mayer is an excellent DJ though.

Thievery will NOT be in the Sahara. End of story. Hopefully Hercules and Love Affair will be! You also forgot Roni Size on Sunday.

Sahara needs some serious beefing up...

I could see Ghostland being the Mccartney alternative, but Friday already looks a little full in there.

By that I mean, if the Gobi and Outdoor are silent, Ghostland would appeal to more than just the usual Sahara crowd. And that's where the crowds go when not everyone is jazzed about the headliner (see Fatboy last year.)

On the other hand, it's not like very many people are going to be at McCartney kicking themselves for missing Ghostland. Actually, I would be, but I'm sure I'd be in the minority.

there was one more act on last year's Friday than on this year's Friday, 12 more on last year's sat than on this year's sat, and one less on last year's sunday than on this year's sunday...so it appears that they have room to add sahara acts for saturday but sunday is where the sahara is really in need...maybe supermayer will play a super long set? haha

I don't know, it's going to be interesting to see. At first I assumed they would just trade off like Surkin did as part of the Institubes' sets last year but since they have this marked as a live set and not a DJ set, they might be working together. If so, that's my sleeper pick to really blow the roof off the place.

wow.. major coachella dissapointment.. finally checked the line up this year...(just got back from vacation)

This has to be the weakest Sahara line-up in the history of Coachella.. They could not find better DJ's then Steve Aoki, Surkin, Para One, DJ AM, Felix Da Housecat and Christopher Lawrence ? ? ? ??? This is like a rehash of the last 2Coachella Sahara mid afternoon line-ups.....

Instead of the Chemical Brothers.. we get the Crystal Method ? ???? Thievery Corporation yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn... GirlTalk again ? ? ? MSTRKRFT again RoniSize again.. WTF ? ?

Just more of the same lame electro blah & bleck that we have had over the past 2 years.. It will be funny to hear Aoki, DJ AM, MSTRKRFT, Surkin, Drop the Lime, Switch and the Bug play all the same Crookers tracks over and over and over... all weekend long..

The only semi saving grace is Craze / Klever, Ghostland Observatory, Groove Aramada DJ set (which is nothing like their live sets)
Coachella has now officially jumped the shark in the dance department.. Sorry to say it...but most of this line-up is weak sauce..

I hope Buraka Som Sistema gets a sunset slot in the Sahara. They are totally perfect for that placement. Check them out....the sleeper act of Friday. I think they will take either Crystal Castles or the Bug's spot in Sahara (from the original poster's list). I really hope the Bug is in the Gobi early in the day. He blew when he opened up for NIN.

Here's the order I'm hoping for Sahara on Friday:

Ghostland Observatory (unless they go on before McCartney, which would be awesome and totally ballsy b/c they will kill and blow all the McCartney fans away)
Crystal Method
The Presets (who put on a great show...arguably could close even)
Buraka Som Sistema
N.A.S.A.
Craze and Klever
Felix de Housecat
Switch
Steve Aoki

- Girl Talk (I am hoping that he will be closing out in Mojave...he does not qualify as a Sahara closer imho)
- I agree that the Sahara acts are weak and am anxiously awaiting the adds for Sat & Sun

The concept of

Crystal Castles>Presets>Ghostland Observatory> The Crystal Method

all playing in a row at night gives me shivers. Would be the most intense sahara night ever. Add girl talk on to the end and you're going nuts.

I'd have to miss morrissey and mccartney but i think it would be worth it.

All of the bands i listed above strike me as crucial nighttime acts... esp. presets ghostland and crystal method... so I'm thinking someone will be conflicted with P.M.

Oh yeah, Psychic Friend stated in another thread that there is
"more sahara coming... oh yee of little faith"

necessary for sunday especially

tHEdARKsIDE
02-04-2009, 05:33 AM
somebody please explain to me how it could even be possible to have any Sahara adds...

Sahara Lineups-
Friday (12-15 acts):

Crystal Method
Crystal Castles
N.A.S.A.
Felix da Housecat
Buraka Som Sistema
Peanut Butter Wolf
The Bug
Craze & Klever
Switch
Gui Boratto
Steve Aoki
Genghis Tron

(Girl Talk
Ghostland Observatory
The Presets)

Saturday (11-14 acts):

Thievery Corporation
MSTRKRFT
Trav$Dj-AM
Crookers
Bloody Beetroots
Surkin
Para One (live)
Zane Lowe
Glass Candy
Drop the Lime
Zizek Club

(Atmosphere
Junior Boys
Gang Gang Dance)

Sunday (10-12 acts):

Throbbing Gristle
Roni Size
Groove Armada
Christopher Lawrence
M.A.N.D.Y.
Perry Farrell
Supermayer
Shepard Fairey
The Knux
Marshall Barnes

(Sebastien Tellier
Friendly Fires)

unless you're talking about 30 minute sets, you can't really have more than 12 acts a day... Sunday, maybe, could get one add, but the day with the most sahara acts is the one with the weakest headliner...

i'm not saying there won't be adds, but i think they'd be an electronic act in the Tiesto/Black Star slot on main stage (somebody like Daft or Chem Bros... or Prodigy on Sunday)

Tylerdurden31
02-04-2009, 06:56 AM
Crystal Castles, Genghis Tron, Thievery Corporation, Throbbing Gristle and The Knux will definitely not be in the Sahara.

Tylerdurden31

Crystal Castles - 8 Bit Rock...not really Sahara style
Genghis Tron - Electro Hardcore Metal...not danceable
Thievery Corporation - too mellow for the Sahara, more likely to be on the mainstage

& don't say Throbbing Gristle, who i can't picture anywhere else, when we get acts like Aphex & Squarepusher in the tent...
Throbbing Gristle - they're practically noise music, not dance music. There's absolutely no way they'd be in the Sahara.

The Knux & Atmosphere - hip hop doesn't happen in the Sahara
Gang Gang Dance - way too weird and tribal to be in the Sahara

these will probably be in the sahara
Girl Talk
Ghostland Observatory
The Presets
Junior Boys
Sebastien Tellier
Friendly Fires is a maybe

Ok, this may seem like a strange question but here it goes:

I have listened to quite a few of the acts this year and I am really digging the electronic acts which is a surprise because I absolutely hate electronic music.
Anyways, if I plan on venturing into the Sahara this year, how would I dance to the music the way most of the other dancers do and is their any dancing ethic?

Any tips would be much appreciated

Most people don't dance very well, so they're just doing their own thing, you should probably just do the same. Just don't look like you're trying too hard and don't go too crazy. Also beer/weed/drugs help.

Memorial I am aware of your discomfort for dancing in the Sahara, (when we discussed it in another thread awhile back) so I would say you definitely need to give the Sahara a chance this year especially if you are enjoying what you have checked out. If you are not comfortable raging in the EDM madness, then stand more towards the back of the tent, where there tends to be more head bobbers and people just soaking it all in. I also want you to know that freedom of expression and electronic music go hand in hand. In my opinion there is no "right" or "cool" way to dance in the Sahara, do whatever the fuck you want. I would never laugh at someone because of the way they got down, you feel it, and your body just reacts.

and i wasn't planning on giving any advice to somebody who said he had his life changed by dj tiesto in another thread

but for the sake of being constructive: move your body to the goddamn music. forget about your crippling insecurities and get down however you feel like getting down. if you can't break down your psychosomatic walls then drop some fucking e. if that doesn't work, god help you. that was the best advice you'll ever get in this thread, from a guy named brochella.

First off, I did not say Tiesto was life changing. I said "He was really good in '07."

get your shit right next time.

and second, that wasn't the best advice on this thread from a guy named brochella

See brochella?

This IS the best advice I'll get on this thread.

Thank you feather. I always appreciated your advice for dancing in the sahara. :)

Still want to meet up this year?

Haha its funny. I tell my friends that when I go to festivals I spend most of my time in the dance tents. They usually respond with "you dance?"

and then when I show them EDM, they respond with "people dance to this?"

...

welcome to the amerikas. enjoy yr stay.

Just let go and move your body.. It's really quite that simple. All great DJ's know how to get the crowd moving and if you feel self conscious about your dance moves, you are not letting the music take over... Just find some space (where you can move without knocking into anyone) and flow....

You will not have trouble finding quality DJ's at Coachella.. that can easily get 900 people dancing their asses off in the Sahara tent(even during mid afternoon).. If you can find live bands that play a mix of dance beats and samples, I tend to find these the most euphoric to dance to.. such as Soulwax, Cut Copy, Groove Armada (live) and HotChip etc..
This year I would check out Junior Boys, The Presets and Ghostland Observatory should bring it live.. For DJ's I would check out Craze and Klever, GirlTalk and Supermayer..

I've listened to a few DJ's from the top of the alphabetical order list and I'm digging Bajofondo and Bloody Beetroots so I'll defintley watch these two acts and will probably be movin' to them. anyone reccommend any other DJ that will defintley get the sahara moving?

I heard Felix da Housecat was great in '07.
can anyone vouch for that?

how is that Surkin/Para One set going to work out? they going to play individually?

I hope it's a 2 hour slot with them switching off. every time i see Surkin he gets more and more insane with his sets.

He had Smartbar in Chciago losing it last time I saw him. People were going fuckign nuts.

That has definitely been me on many occasions. So far I have had great luck in the Sahara, people giving me room to dance. I really appreciate it. I think they see my passion for it, and let me get loose.

even though you set yourself up, just ignore the haters (although I have to admit i chuckled when i read your post....thought you were fucking around).

the sahara tent is totally intoxicating onto itself. the energy, beats, beautiful people and utterly kickass sound/light system will draw you in and, likely keep you there (whether you dance or not).

of course, as the soulwax boys say....could be the e-talking

the aforementioned Ghostland Observatory are going to blow people away, hands down. Groove Armada, the Presets, MSTRKRFT (!), and I'm hoping Buraka Som Sistema ends up in the Sahara (so bad...they're great). I'm also interested in checking out some new ones (for me): Bloody Beetroots, M.A.N.D.Y., N.A.S.A., Drop the Lime and Bajofondo (who will more likely be on the Outdoor stage). Anybody seen any of those? Data please.

HAHAHA @ Coachellian dancing video!!!

I am pretty disappointed so far with the electro dance lineup this year. I'm definitely hoping for adds, too. I was really hoping for some more Australian electro outfits along the lines of Cut Copy/Presets, like Miami Horror and Grafton Primary... they would tear that shit UP.

But Ghostland, MSTRKRFT, and Presets are awesome. Otherwise.. sigh, it's a bit sparse for my liking this time around.

What style of music?

Progress house electro house dub-step indie rave.. drops crazy bass beats touches into some electro clash and even some old school 90s hip hop.. very high energy sets. some of the bass-lines of his tracks are out of this world.

I would be to. Why do you think ghostland is going to conflict with PaulM?

Wheres the beef?
