I saw the Virgins last night and I can see how FF would easily upstage them. The Virgins just aren't that great live to begin with (not that they're bad, but nothing special).

Friendly Fires play NYC constantly as well. They're always on tour.

I doubt they'll play the Outdoor Stage (they're not big enough) or the Sahara (not really "dance" enough). Mojave probably.

!!! was fucking awesome in 07, but they've had some shakeups with the singers recently... Free Blood is the old singer's new project, and that would be cool, but I don't know if they have enough material yet to play.

FF is pretty enjoyable, I bet the set will be good fun.

I would also just like to point out that there seem to be a lot of double-F names lately... Friendly Fires, Fleet Foxes, Fiery Furnaces (not on lineup)... and let's not forget Franz Ferdinand (not that that's lately).

its' really not fair to judge the band by that song, because it's not the same vocalist and it's aeroplane doing all of the remixing... great song/ good songwriting, but kind of innacurate.

Eh, one bad show doesn't ruin the artists music for me.

It was more than just the show itself. They're just straight aggravating to watch them try to play. Plus, their live sound is waaaay more shallow than what's on the album. They were fuckin blessed to have amazing production.

I could go on, but it's just saddening to think about a band that I was so amped on to be in reality so...shitty.

I went to see this band last night in Pomona.

Back in April of this year, I had discussed with a friend about seeing them at the Troubadour on that Monday before Coachella but it didnít work out.

I later signed up to pick up some friends at their hotel on that following Sunday at Coachella. Our plan was to get to the polo fields no later than 3:00PM to catch their set. Iím proud to say that we were only ONE HOUR LATE. Granted, this was a group that no one would have given me fair odds to appear before 6:00PM. I shrugged it off as ďoh wellĒ and kept to my schedule of seeing as many bands as I could.

I am now kicking myself in the ass.

I was not feeling the first opening group last night (sorry). The second act was a few minutes shorter than the first. His set could best be described as a combination of The Waterboy, Andy Kaufman, and a Coppola crew member working on Apocalypse Now. He was actually FF's roadie, who spent at least 35 minutes checking, adjusting, confirming, re-checking, laying out water bottles, laying out towels, and re-re-checking everything. He even escorted the band onto the partially lit stage with a flashlight and motioned which direction for them to walk.

So Friendly Fires come on and began with Lovesick (they also have two horn players last night). The lead singer breaks out into this hardcore jockish/ghey shoulder type of dance that was fucking hilarious. But he didnít stop. He was totally serious about those moves and kept them up the entire night. Guess what happens next? Iím trying to imitate him halfway through the first song. I seen the bass player make eye contact with the drummer and tilt his head toward the lead singer with the look of ďthere he fucking goes againĒ. What a thrill it was to see this caliber of a band in such an intimate venue.

Glasshouse, Iím letting you and Pomona off easy. Please notify people in advance if they need to bring their own soap, toilet paper, and seat covers for the restrooms. Pomona Police Department, God Bless America.

Anyways, I love guitarists that are technically part of the band but they appear to become incoherent at certain points and it seems like itís only them and their instrument: isolated and enthralled into their task at hand, occasionally coming into conscience to show they are still there. Well done sir (nice haircut). My wrists are hurting just thinking at the pace that the drummer kept last night. I always assumed that the percussions in this band were driven by drum machine. Nope, they had a real guy there. Loved your drum fills, canít get a machine to improvise. Bass player in the back, youíre too fucking short, I could not catch everything you were doing. Nothing went wrong, good job.

I left work on Friday with the flu and had been in bed since. What a surprise and treat last night was. I went to sleep high on their energy.

That lead singers hips gyrate non stop through the entire set. He was one of the sweatiest singers I've ever seen at Coachella...and he wasn't in bad shape...and he was in a tent. Just goes to show, it's hard work to move like that.

yeah, taking the mic away from your mouth during certain parts of songs so no one can tell you are not that good is so cool

and by that you mean it's not cool, right? yeah. FFs would be a lot better with an Autotune. get with the times Ed! live shows are about perfect pitch, not fun. when you take that mic two inches away from your mouth those 4 times i've seen you live...it made me want to puke!

Your review could have easily been used for last night's show at the Roxy as well.

The majority of what was played was new material. I would say about 7 of the 12 songs on the setlist were new. It created an interesting environment where the crowd didn't seem to totally get into the show. I thought they were good, but the show lacked a little something from the last show of theirs I saw.

FUCK FUCK FUCK! I am so upset that I had to sell my ticket for this show. I really wanted to be there to hear the new material, which is the only reason I had originally bought a ticket, it was more of a showcase type set.

No disrespect intended, but I thought last night showed how much they have improved. The re-working of their popular hits were just as good, if not better. It appeared as if they intended to do this in order to help intoduce the new material in a more streamline manner.

I enjoyed the show last night...My only issue with the show in general was the inconsistant set list, it just didnt flow very good, the songs were good but the flow of the show was strange. Also the sound mix was just off.

Not factoring in my issues with the venue's sound, I thought they sounded great as a band and I liked the arrangements, so my critique is not centered on the band or their setlist. It is the other aspects of the show. The crowd didn't seem too into it from where I was (I was in the middle of the stage, closer to the back, and it seemed very tame; lots of standing around) and the sound seemed muffled the whole night. Whether this contributed to the band's energy, I don't know. It seemed the lead singer was not too thrilled with the lack of crowd movement. I also thought the band's energy only came in smaller spurts, which was very different than the last show of theirs I caught. It could have been nerves with the new material though, who knows? But I missed his spazzing out this time.

Overall, good show. I think the new stuff has a lot of potential and am still looking forward to catching them in June.

Aww you should have said hi! I don't know what you look like. I also didn't even realize you live in LA. For some reason I thought you lived in Phoenix.

Rocke I totally forgot you were going to be there. I would have looked out for you. I was up almost touching the stage a little left of center for the first two bands (stupid Not-Muse), and then during the 40 minute wait between sets I got super claustrophobic and felt like I was going to either throw up or faint, so I unfortunately left and went to the bar in the back to watch it and drink water. Which is fine, cause it's such a small venue anyway. No one was really dancing at all back there. It seemed like only the first handful of rows were. But I agree, Ed didn't seem as enthusiastic as he has in the past. I'm really excited to hear their new recorded material tho.

I was looking for you the whole show. I thought maybe you didn't go. One of these days we will have to meet up again. It has been too long!

I had priority tickets to see them at Jimmy Kimmel yesterday but I had to give them up! Lame! I'll be seeing them at Lolla in a couple of months though. I haven't seen them since Nov. 2009.
