No, thank you.

One of the few bands I really need a front row spot for. They're not at the top of my must see list but I just have to be front row for them. It's the Liars.

Amazing energy; first time I've seen a live Liars video. I question the people who say they're horrible live. I would just assume that they don't care for Liars from the start... Watching this makes me bummed I'll probably only go Sunday. It's really not worth 100 for Saturday :/

Well.. since I started photoshopping the poster...
it looks like Gorillaz are headlining Saturday with The Killers and Muse subheadlining...
and added Animal Collective is billed next to TVOTR...
I'd say Saturday is shaping up quite nicely.

Not to mention The Cure and Tom Waits co-headlining Sunday.

Oh and Deerhunter is playing on Friday..

I am a big fan of the Liars music. I didn't know anything about them as a live act before I saw them last year. I must say, the singer was the most annoying front man I have witnessed live. He seemed like he was trying to be Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler. He would turn around and shake his backside, then do a pretend strip tease by briefly lifting up his shirt, then lowering it, then lifting it again, like a pole dancer would do as she takes her top off. It caught me completely off guard, since this was a band that seemed a bit strange musically. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I have listened to them since?

Didn't you just want to punch him in the head repeatedly until he realizes he's not good enough of a singer to be such a weird douchebag?

pancakespancakes

what is the most essential liars album, anyone?

Well that's actually a bit of a difficult question to ask.

Their most recent album (self-titled) would be the best to start with.

On the other hand, Drum's Not Dead is their most "essential" and what most would agree is their best work.

They have a very diverse sound from album to album, not unlike Radiohead. The recent one actually sums it all up relatively well, though. If I were you, I'd get both the self titled and Drum's Not Dead, and try and get through them both. They mainly pull from those albums in their live show. The first two are killer as well, though...

Physical violence crossed my mind more than once. It became one of those medusa things, where I couldn't look directly at him. I thought the band was playing some cool music though. Four drumsticks are always better than two.

Considering how their lineup is currently structured, they can't play any of that stuff anymore. If only they joined the trend of "Band playing entire older album people want to hear" tour, that would be sweet.

They still play stuff off They Were Wrong So We Drowned. They're just not going to do anything off the first album seeing as how they're a completely different band at this point.

And I fucking love Liars. Their live show is a whirlwind. That said, the opening slots for Radiohead didn't work. They need to be in a small club or a tiny tent or something where they can rile up the crowd.

Hey, me too. I was front and center for that one. Did you get the other banana the staff guy was throwing at us before they came on? I got one of them. I made a huge mistake by putting it in my pocket and forgetting about it until much later.

One of my favorite things at a Liars show is watching and listening for other people's reaction. I've seen the Liars 3 times and enjoyed each time in some form or another, not least because of others reaction of WTF?

The following dialogue occurred when I saw them open for Interpol:

Some idiot: "Is this Interpol?"
Some hipster: "No, they don't suck this bad"
Idiot: "Good because this is the worst band I've ever heard"

Classic.

Holy fuckin shit! I was front row center too! But only for like the last three songs, after that small group of people left. What did you guys look like? I was the one with long brown hair, taking pictures, and I remember some guy next to me wearing a Radiohead shirt, he was also at their artists signing...

Meeting Angus after the set was almost as fun as the set itself. Probably one of, if not the most favorite musician I have ever met. He's just so fucking hilarious and filled with joy. Not exactly how you'd expect him to be after hearing his music and seeing his antics on stage. He was just the happiest motherfucker in a ten-mile radius. Granted, the Australian accent really helps...

This video he did that day sums up his personality pretty well. Pretty funny...

I think the setlist was something like...

Be Quiet Mt. Heart Attack! (definitely the opener)
We Fenced Other Houses With the Bones of Our Own
A Visit From Drum
Clear Island
Drum and the Uncomfortable Can
Freak Out
Plaster Casts of Everything (definitely the closer)
and a few I'm missing...

I'm getting that and the Radiohead show confused.

No I'm ALMOST positive that they played Drum & Uncomfortable Can, but again, might just be confusing that with the Radiohead set... I them open up for Radiohead here in San Diego like 5 days later. Oddly enough, that was a much longer set, with a couple extra favorites of mine thrown in. Of course I had lawn seats for it hahahaha. Oh well.

Good work! I'm proud of you! :D Now, if you like it, move on to They Threw Us All in a Trench (if you like their more dancier and heavier stuff) or Drum's Not Dead (if you like their most experimental/krautrockish and ambient stuff) and you will be all set. Unfortunately, they probably won't be playing any of the former at Coachella, but I'd kill to get some of those songs at a Liars show...

I'm pretty sure they used to date each other when they were both first starting out.

As for Liars --- love em. I think they play Drum & The Uncomfortable Can at most live shows -- it's a very appropriate live song.

I would also kill for a song off "They Threw Us In A Trench..." that became my favorite Liars album. I love "This Dirt Becomes Mud" -- I listen to all 36 minutes :)

But yeah, "Drum's Not Dead" is one of the best albums of this decade.

For me it's actually probably the reverse, excpet with Drum's Not Dead on top. But I love em all pretty equally. Sort of hard to rank.

They Were Wrong may only have two tracks I listen to often, but they're like two of my all-time favorite Liars songs. So it's still a winning album.
