I've been on their mailing list for a couple of years, I think, and they're fairly reputable. They do jump on stuff a la NME, so who knows. This would be awesome. They were the first, that I saw, who wrote about Bowie being in Berlin, which I'm still not sure is true either. For what it's worth, there you go.

When does this end? Did Coachella really spark a "legends of rock" tour? I thought that was for Guitar Hero. What happens when we run out of legends? where does Coachella go from there? Coachella's history is Tool/NIN/Rage etc...and now everyone is getting all wet over Bowie/ Elton John/ McCartney. Don't get me wrong, I like a good legend as much as the next guy, but it's not why I started going to Coachella since '02.
Of course, just my opinion.

I absoulutely love what Roger Waters did for COACHELLA! I was working at a UPS Store at the time of lasts years fest and a few days after it had ended an older gent, im talking 60+, ventured into my store. Initially we were both looking down but one look at eachothers wrists and that was all it took. Both of us still hadnt been able to cut our camping wristband off.

Im not saying his performance alone is the only reason for the older generations attendance but it brought everyone together based on the simple fact that when music is good its fuckin' good!!!!! And seeing something that was as old as alot of the festival goers parents probably opened alot of eyes for the youth that was there. Ive always been a Floyd fan and still, i was blown away.

Im certain 'the Who' will be there, if not this year, then soon.

Im waiting for them to show up on this years linup so i can find my post from 6 months ago and say look! You all said i was crazy.......

*fixed*Bowie>McCartney>Neil Young>The Smiths
David Bowie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Smiths

but i really don't see why GV couldn't pull off both though... i don't think the reason either hasn't played has been because of money, so if either were in a position to play, i don't think money would be the primary obstacle... McCartney on the other hand...

here's what you could get with David Bowie, a set like Roger Waters:
soundsystem plays "The Laughing Gnome" as techs set up the stage

set one- select songs from his new album, his first in 5 years, along with a few gems (Tom Waits covers with Scarlett Johansson, etc), set ending with Under Pressure

"Space Oddity" plays over soundsystem during set change
set two- Ziggy Stardust
"Five Years"
"Soul Love"
"Moonage Daydream"
"Starman"
"It Ain't Easy"
"Lady Stardust"
"Star"
"Hang on to Yourself"
"Ziggy Stardust"
"Suffragette City"
"Rock 'n' Roll Suicide"

"Sweet Thing" plays over soundsystem before Bowie retakes the stage
set three- an extended encore of hits:
1. Let's Dance
2. Fame
3. I'm Afraid Of Americans (w/ Trent Reznor)
4. Rebel, Rebel
5. Changes
6. The Man Who Sold The World
7. All The Young Dudes

theme from "Labrynth" plays over soundsystem as we all head home...

Don't get me wrong, the Ziggy Stardust thing is pretty awesome.

That said, it's a bit weird to think of a 62 year old Bowie as Ziggy.

If Sean Connery was willing to make another James Bond movie, would you really want to see it happen?

why in the world do you think you can't have both? same thing goes for the people in the McCartney threads...

does ANYBODY besides me remember Roger Waters???

Roger Waters played DSOTM, Pink Floyd hits, & solo songs

Paul McCartney plays Beatles songs, solo hits, Wings, & Fireman songs

David Bowie could play Ziggy Stardust, plus classic hits, & new songs...

jesus christ, Ziggy Stardust is like what? 32 minutes or some shit, it OBV wouldn't comprise the entirety of his set...

I want to see McCartney about the same as I want to see Bowie, although I've seen Bowie before (and Radiohead). I have not seen The Smiths or McCartney.

McCartney + Bowie = EPIC WIN though. We've been asking for Bowie for years and years and he always tops the polls. I'm dragging my husband by the ears to coach if this rumor is true. And I just fucking got into The Beatles last year; how timely is that?

And NIN to Bowie night, shweet! It's 1995 again!

For those who align Bowie to the OLDchella tag, and if you aren't that familiar with his past, you have to remember that Bowie was always stylish, and he still is today. His music may not be as popular as McCartney, but Bowie is more vital and hip.

In my world it's The Smiths > Radiohead > Bowie = McCartney

Glad I don't live in that world.

McCartney = Bowie > The Smiths > Radiohead

Oh, and BTW, I would prefer Bowie over McCartney for the same reason I didn't fully support the Roger Waters choice.

(but I'll be happy with either)

I hope that we find out soon.

Bowie =/= McCartney
McCartney =/= Bowie

You can't compare the two. They're equally amazing on their own separate planes of being.

OLDchella, one week after StageCoach

God. How ignorant are you?

Just because a band is "old" or a performer is "old" doesn't devalue their music or their impact upon popular culture. So what if Bowie was releasing albums before you were born. Does that mean those albums suck? Absolutely not. I bet they're 90x better than what you consider good music.

my sources say that this is partially true.

i saw David Bowie & his wife at a screening of I'm Not There (the Dylan movie) the weekend it premiered at the Landmark in Hollywood... a couple suits rented out the entire theatre. Some band & their suit got in too, and a critic or two, and that's it... CRAZY mad security though... Bowie sat in the back, right-hand corner.

btw, 'All The Young Dudes' on the polo field = FUCKING EPIC.

I suspect PF is either busy, or even sleeping... she deserves time out.

I just do not see it happening. I had my hopes up a couple of years ago with a promoter told me they were trying to get him for after arcade fire... well that didn't happen.

Yeah, if The Smiths were really offered $5 million in 2006, that amount of money could surely pay for both McCartney AND Bowie. Of course, both would have to agree, which is difficult since they are obscenely wealthy (and deservedly so) so money really is never an issue with them.
