that's a good accident .. (granted, they were really weary in the afternoon heat, much better in 2006)

mine was the band South in 2003 ... no idea what their opener was though.

The Walkmen wailing on guitars. It was early so I was able to stroll on up close to the main stage. They were wearing suits and drenched in sweat.

Last year, I overheard The Walkmen doing "The Rat." It was slightly anoying because since it was my first Coachella I didn't realize the traffic was so brutal getting into Indio. I just really wanted to be AT the stage for that song.

Man, it was probably some nondescript DJ, but I do remember the first band we sat and watched. It was 2001, and we headed straight for the Dandy Warhols.

oh, i'm not complaining. i say 'accidental' 'cause i'd had zero interest in seeing them; the only reason i was there was to search for my friend. but hey, that's the greatness of coachella-- stumbling upon different bands.

It was in 2004 and it was on the main stage.
Some band from Sweden I think.
The lead singer was a blonde female.
I knew their name at the time but can't recall now.
Very energetic performance though.

The Sounds? INC doesn't have a female singer.

First song I remember was Section Quartet covering "Believe In a thing called love" in 2004.

Silversun pickups - lazy eye

Took me a while to get there on account of a detour I was forced to take through Palm Springs. I was briskly walking to Amy Winehouse's set when I heard that song from the main stage. I found it pleasing. The singer started wailing at the top of his lungs at one point.
