Well, if it's true, that's one headliner down.

I know there's a lot of hate, but McCartney is excellent and puts on a great show. Plus, the whole legend thing. I will be catching at least part of his set.

Plus, playing Coachella gives you the opportunity to see him for much cheaper. The 3-day ticket would be the cost for a decent seat at one of his shows.

I don't know how I feel about this. There is no denying that the Beatles are one of the greatest pop/rock bands, but the Beatles are no more. I have paid to see Sir Paul before, and he does put on a good show (sometimes he brings Cirque type performers with him and such) but at Coachella? Really? And this comes from someone who has been to Vegas three times to see the Beatles "Love" show at the Mirage. I love the music, but it just isn't the same. Although, I would have taken Paul over Prince's show last year. Granted, there were some great moments in Prince's show (Seven, Morris Day) but there were some horrific ones as well (Angel?!)

I guess I would watch Paul, if only for Hey Jude (audience participation of that song at Coachella? That would be AMAZING to see . . . )

So Golden Voice issues out e-mails with todays date and all we get is....

"
Hey guys!

Is it us or has the weather been a little bi-polar lately? One day it's freezing cold and the next it's blistering hot.Make up your mind California! Sheesh. It's certainly been an exciting week. We have a new president and some new shows (both just as important.) Times are a bit tough, but we're dedicated to bringing you great shows and will have Coachella to announce soon... stay tuned..."

FUCK THAT! Now i dont know what to think........

First i was willing to go along w/ the idea that they were waiting on someone big to finish negotiating, but then i thought about it enough and if the artist/artists are as big as holding up the lineup, one would think just leave um off for now. Goldenvoice has never hesitated in adding people after the lineup drops...ahemmm!......Prince. I think that excuse was simply just that, an excuse, and something else is going on.

BUT WHAT?

But the thing is, adding a huge headliner wont sell as many tickets as having his/her/their name on the poster from the start. The lineup gets most of its attention from buyers when it first gets released, not when someone gets added. It would make sense to wait for that big name to sign on, so you can make more of an impact when you first release it.

Basically i'm sure there are a ton of people who saw the coachella lineup last year when it came out, but probably didnt know Prince got added until after the show.

everyone is entitled to their opinion. but to say mccartney is not a headliner is competely fuckin stupid and you should be banned! hate him cuz you hate his music, not cuz of his private life, hate him cuz wings sucked in ur opinion, not cuz he is a vegan! bottom line.. mccartney is very good live and has a great backing band... 2 hrs of solo, new, and classic beatle tunes will work just fine... hey jude sing-along will be amazing!!

I think most of the haters are just butt hurt that it was McCartney that was confirmed and not RADIOHEAD.

I'd rather have McCartney headline than Morrisey, Jane's addiction, Neil Young...

I certainly agree with this. Considering people were resigning themselves to a Killers/Neil Young/Morrissey headline bill, this is a huge upgrade.

Im not saying wait till two weeks before the fest to announce the act but whats the big deal if you put them on two weeks from now. Chances are tix wont have even gone on sale yet.

Its just more news and attention for the festival. Im just saying its not like COACHELLA would be breaking out of tradition of late additions and surprises. Why this year throw that excuse out....?

And im not too excited about Paul but if theres no big conflicts i would definetly catch his set. I will have to brush up on some of his tunes though...

OK, so my ideal Coachella lineup would not include Prince, Roger Waters or Paul McCartney... even though I have varying degrees of love for them all. (I could do with out Neil Young, sorry.) I don't like this direction but when it comes down to it how can you really complain about seeing legendary artists such as these, at the best festival in the world that you were already going to anyway?

Although in a perfect world I would prefer to see him somewhere other than our favorite polo fields, I would be very excited to see Sir Paul. We're talking about one of the best songwriters of all time, regardless of what your personal feelings are toward him and/or The Beatles. He will not pull a Madonna. The posted set lists include several absolute classics and just happens to also include the most recorded song of all time, Yesterday. These are timeless pop songs that will translate well regardless of his age...

Geriatrichella, fuckin bullshit, motherfuck, fuck.....!@%@%#%#&^#*&@&^#%#%#*&^(*&^(*@&^#$(*&@^

I couldn't disagree more absolutely...and I'm saying this while at the same time holding the opinion that Paul McCartney as a solo artist is one of the lamest acts in Rock n' Roll History...

But with 110 - 120 acts over three days and five stages going simultaneously...I love the fact that Coachella is moving towards making 10-15 of those acts "Historical" for lack of a better word.

Just imagine if this had been the trend 5 years ago...getting in say Arthur Lee of Love before he died, or trying for the Velvet Underground before Sterling Morrison succumbed to cancer...these artists, along with guys like McCartney, Roger Waters, Neil Young and 80s acts like Prince, Morrissey, the Replacements, and the Pretenders were all part of the same cutting edge independent movement in their day that Coachella celebrates today with all the younger artists they promote.

I for one am profoundly happy that a little more room is being made at the table for these cutting edge legends...however passe you may feel they are.

Besides, if you don't like them, there's always that endless stream of soon to be forgotten Dance/techno acts you can blow your day with at the overcrowded Sahara tent.

FYI, i only visit the sahara about 2-3x throughout the entire festival usually. McCartney does not fit, period. His solo act is incredibly lame. I dont know what else to say - christ man, it's fucking sir paul. are you serious? i take back the ban on geriatric fellows, because i'd love to see the Velvet Underground, or Led Zepp, or the Smiths - i thoroughly enjoyed Roger waters, and prince is timeless, but i will never ever ever ever ever accept the premise that any "legend" should play coachella. or that paul mccartney can be considered cutting edge

Personally, regardless of what ppl think of Paul's music, I think that it's a good fit for Coachella. I know people will bitch and moan. But people will bitch and moan even if they resurrected John and George and had the original Beatles playing. Even if the lineup were Beatles, Radiohead, and The Smiths, there would be someone who would think the lineup sucks. I'm just glad the polo fields will be Jack Johnson free this year.

Here's why Macca is an excellent Sunday headliner. First, as an 8 time veteran of Coachella I can tell you that by Sunday night pretty much everybody is worn down from the partying of the previous nights. There's no better way to chill and wind down from a great weekend then with a legend like Waters or McCartney. Second, he's a classic example of an artist that I would like to see in my lifetime, but would not go out of my way to see if he's playing on his own. That's one of the great things about Coachella, you get to see bands you wouldn't normally pay to see for the same price as the entire package. Perfect example is Daft Punk, I had no idea about their live show and would have never thought to go see them. But they were playing at Coachella and not conflicting with anybody I want to see so I check them out... Mind blown, life changed forever!! Finally, he's a fucking Beatle!! Are you telling me it's not going to be a blast singing A Day in the Life with 50,000 of your closest friends on a beautiful night in the desert? Get some mushrooms, roll a fatty, enjoy the weekend and wind down with some classic rock!! Now let's see what else Paul T has up his sleeve. Hopefully a little Jane's and Radiohead, probably NIN and Killers. We'll see on Monday!!

That was my first reaction: if Paul's a headliner, there's no way The Killers are, too.

Then I remembered: Jack Johnson was a headliner last year, and The Killers are as big as JJ/play the same size venues/nearly sell as many albums. So it could be.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed that McCartney is headlining one of the nights. I understand his history and the fact many people consider him a musical "legend," but on the whole the majority of Coachella-goers will not be motivated to travel out to Indio just to see Paul. I'm assuming there will probably be a major Sahara act playing this day (Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, ??Daft Punk----ha I wish) that will convince the largely younger crowd to come out to the Desert for $300.

McCartney will draw the older, beer-garden crowd, which I'm fine with as long as the headliners the other 2 nights are NOT something along the lines of the Killers.

I will still make it out to Coachella with McCartney as a headliner, but there better be some fresher, more "cutting edge" acts on that poster if I'm really going to spend that type of money this year.

Why are we still talking about The Prodigy? Unless they perform via satellite, they won't be there.

And sing alongs are gay. I didn't pay money to hear half-drunk ass nuts singing. The next time I'm at a show, I'm going to bring my bass guitar and whale alongside the band.

Paul McCartney would be great. Odds are, I think, it being Coachella and all, he'd pull out some Beatles' and Wings tunes. Plus, he's one of those "must see acts before I die" and I'd rather see him sooner than later. He's no Benjamin Button.
On the topic of the Beatles, I won't ignore the fact that Dhani Harrison is in Los Angeles and has a new band as well.

I would fucking DIE if he played "She Came in through the Bathroom Window"
it was on the last tour

God I hope he plays "Live and Let Die".
usually does

which sing-along would be louder:

Roger Waters-Another Brick In The Wall

or

Paul McCartney-Hey Jude

hey jude >>>>>>>wish you were here> another brick in the wall

I have to brush up myself. I've only gotten into the Beatles almost a year ago (I know, I'm lame), and I am not sure I'm familiar with his music outside The Beatles.

non beatles paul mccartney songs to get to know:
band on the run (song and album by the same name)

let me roll it
too many people (see Ram)
maybe i'm amazed (check out McCartney album)
flaming pie
fine line (see Chaos and Creation)

Fucking epic. Paul McCartney is a legend. Never will you see a more diverse crowd. Sure he is older than the average Coachella attendee, but his Beatles songs are universal. You would be surprised to know how many young people love the Beatles, well unless all the young people you know are hipster fags. Im sure youd like less hipster fags at Coachella this year, wouldnt you?

Dude, Paul McCartney is excellent. The majority of his career (Beatles, Wings and solo) has given us all some of the best pop songwriting of all time. I saw him do a free gig at Amoeba a couple years ago and he was great. Making me enjoy a concert there is quite a feat and he accomplished it with flying colors. And plus, I don't think anyone would be objected to hearing Beatles songs from the Coachella stage.

I don't get why people are bummed about the possibility of Paul. Fact is, everybody likes him. People who like music like the Beatles, people who DON'T like music like the Beatles, musicians like the Beatles, REAL musicians like the Beatles. And a lot of his set are Beatles songs.

I like Paul McCartney as a headliner. There's some other acts I'd rather see, but there's a ton more acts I'd rather not have headline. The Beatles are awesome and you can't argue that they're the LARGEST (most record sales, most known) band in the history of music. I think it'll be pretty epic hearing him play some Beatles tunes live. He'll get me out of the Sahara for a little while. Plus I don't think I ever would have had the chance to hear some live beatles tunes if it wasn't for him playing Coachella. Thumbs up from me.
