I think we all hate branding but in this economy I think we hate high ticket prices a bit more so if these dumb corporations want to advertise to the coolest crowd in America while helping foot the bill and to bring down some ticket prices, then i'm fine with that. If there were zero sponsors there wouldn't be a festival. Coachella has maintained a happy medium in this area but cheaper tickets would certainly be nice since Coachella tickets cost more than the rest of the fests across the country.

I wish I had tons of money to build some local venues like The Pearl in Vegas or something.

Sorry, random thread hijack. Getting SO PISSED that bands are skipping Phx more and more for Tucson. WTF.

liquidsnake28
08-14-2009, 01:46 PM
I don't know why people care so much about the fucking names of the stages/tents. Lots of people were complaining about the This Tent/That Tent business at roo and how it was confusing to find the right tent for the right band. Well guess what? That's your own fault for being too retarded to read a goddamn map. As for the branding at lolla, it's really hard to let that bother you. If it really affects the enjoyment of your weekend then you have serious issues. Naming the tents after deserts is every bit as (if not even more) stupid.

righteousdnk
08-14-2009, 01:51 PM
I really don't mind branding when it comes to the festivals since I did get lots of free water bottles and when I forgot my sunglasses, there they were to hand me a new, free pair.

Now when it comes to sports, nothing pisses me off more than the Coors Light silver bullet Rocky Mountain instant replay or whatever ridiculous name they put on it. That's another topic by itself though.

But like I said, free bottles of water and sunglasses. I don't mind.

amyzzz
08-14-2009, 01:52 PM
I wasn't too confused about the this tent/that tent business actually, although I do remember one time someone ELSE in our party got confused and told me to go to the wrong tent.

This tent and that tent is much better that THIS IS THE COKE TENT.

Well maybe that would be fun actually.

Mr. Dylanja
08-14-2009, 01:58 PM
That's your own fault for being too retarded to read a goddamn map.

Says the guy who led me on a mile plus detour for over an hour, pulling out his map every ten steps to coordinate his bearings. "Just let me look at the map real quick," must've been repeated DOZENS of times. Finally, upon exhaustion, dehydration and near heatstroke I had to part ways only to discover I was located less than a five minute walk from where our journey began.

For fucking shame, you Elitist-Hipster, for fucking shame :nono

and probably more accurate too

Finally, upon exhaustion, dehydration and near heatstroke

Well that's your fault for eating so much and not being in better shape, hehe. Seriously though, that was the camping area and that's a whole different story. That's a gigantic mess of tents with no distinguishable features. It's confusing as hell. Everyone gets lost. You have to expect that though with 80,000 + people all camping on site.

Mr. Dylanja
08-14-2009, 02:07 PM
You're right, it's my fault you're retarded, my bad.

well shit. I checked several times this morning and chances are I checked right about the time the early bird passes were on sale. I had assumed that there would be a link on the front page -- maybe the "lolla 2010 aug 6-8" in the news feed turning into a link. I was sadly mistaken.

chiapet
08-14-2009, 04:23 PM
SXSW is not really a festival in the same sense though -- it's an organized series of shows at clubs/venues in Austin. ACL is a city fest though -- having been to both, I definitely liked Lolla a lot better.

The show had some good performances and interesting interviews with Perry, but the show was only an hour long and it included commercials. So really it was only like 40 mins of concert footage.
