View Full Version : Why does Radiohead not have a myspace page?

kroqken
02-09-2007, 02:53 PM
Hey folks, I had to reregister on here because I guess I was deleted or something. Anyway, I was wobndering why Radiohead does not have an official myspace page under music. It seems EVERY other band does, but not Radiohead. This is surprising considering Radiohead has embraced technology throughout its existence. Any theories why, I just want to make Radiohead one of my top friends and I obviously cannot at this time.

what does embracing technology have to do with myspace?

wmgaretjax
02-09-2007, 02:56 PM
i would imagine a huge part of it is that radiohead doesn't need a myspace, not to mention that myspace is owned by THE biggest corporate whore alive.

Courtney
02-09-2007, 03:01 PM
Exactly, I'd imagine it has much to do with the corporate whore part.

Like their aversion to Ticketmaster.

No, Delta. He means you cannot find Radiohead in the iTunes store. Like the Beatles. They have not ok'd their music to be released via iTunes. I didn't even realize that, but I checked, and menik is right. You can still rip their albums to iTunes, obviously.

Seriously, I cannot think of any reason why Radiohead does not have a myspace page. Is there any other major current band or singer that does not have a myspace page? So why did Coachella switch message boards? I miss the old board. Tessa is not my girlfriend, I have not even met her, although I would LOVE TO. I was seeing some girl but it did not work out, she was too moody for me, but she was an amazing artist. SHe does pop art stuff. I might plug her art on here one day, but then she might kill me.

From what I understand, they try to offer tickets for sale on their waste (http://tickets.waste.uk.com/) website. But I dunno... I'm not really special/rich/quick enough to get tickets to Radiohead anyway.

I'm pretty sure all the shows in the UK are sold through waste. I've not seen any shows here in California sold through waste. I've been to four radiohead concerts in both northern and southern california, and every single one was sold through ticketmaster. the last one, I recall, waste had the tour info but they weren't selling the tickets. I wish they had been.

02-15-2007, 07:51 PM
FIDM is not overrated. They place so many graduates in the fashion industry. This girl is studying textile design and is very talented. Her paintings are also incredible. SHe also went to the Otis art college in Pasadena. I better be careful to not give out too much personal information about her.

Out of the two of us, which has attended FIDM? Just curious. I'm sorry that an amazing FIDM girl broke your heart. But she isn't (wasn't) amazing because she is a FIDM girl. She's making the most out of a school that sucks all the creativity out of you, and I admire her for that. But FIDM itself (not casting aspersions on people who go there) is overrated.

Hannahrain
04-06-2007, 10:37 AM
Hey Hannahrain, why did you leave FIDM?

I found it really limiting. When I got there, I was given a list and told "These are the courses you will take. There are no electives in your program." The only choice I got to make the entire time I was there was to quit. And, while the courses that are in direct relation to the majors are good, and [usually] well-taught, the requirements classes were very lackluster. They an english skills class and an english composition class, and nothing beyond that.

I also had wanted at one point to change my major, and the beaurocracy involved with that was completely overwhelming. Hell, the beaurocracy involved with quitting is still screwing me over. They make it really difficult to be a student there, and I don't mean the classes.

If the only thing you are interested in is your major, FIDM can be a great place. I would only recommend it to someone who knows for sure that they never want to do anything but what they are learning there. You aren't allowed to take any classes outside of your major or anything.

I guess I didn't feel like, for how unhappy I was there, it was worth the price tag.

Because she's smart and has better things to do with her time.

Thanks mob, although I would call this half true. Pick a half, any half.

btw, radiohead are not attention whores. Their every move is scrutinized by millions already. Why bother putting up a myspace page so that they can offend hundreds of thousand of friend requests and millions of stupid comments they'll never read? They're doing myspace a favor by not bothering. Myspace is handier for emerging artists.

anyway the far bigger question is why don't depeche mode have a myspace?

They do at http://www.myspace.com/depechemode but it's pretty ghetto and obsessively controlled by their label people. It basically loses the entire spirit of a few free songs and info.

I agree that Radiohead certainly doesn't need one.

It's getting late. I think I'm gonna listen to a little Depeche Mode on my headphones and go to bed.

What are your plans now that you've dropped FIDM Hannah? Another school? Something else?

Whoops, sorry. Just saw this.

I don't have any real plans at the moment. I'm looking for something that will pay the rent. I just bought a new "hire-me" shirt, and I'm hoping to find a place where I never have to wear it. It's looking cashier-y at the moment, which is fine with me.

I've been thinking about taking a few community college classes, which will probably be the extent of my "traditional" education. Nothing that would even get me credit, really. Spanish, home repair, standup. Maybe sewing, although I'm not sure that what I could get from LCC that would be able to supplement what I got from FIDM.

The ten year plan is pretty much as follows:

1. Do not die in the next 10 years
2. Maybe get a dog.

Yeah, but why do they need a myspace? They definitely do embrace technology, in their own way though.

I just don't see why they should put up with the fuss of myspace. It doesn't really offer them any advantages in my opinion.

kroqken

I'm not going to bother reading all of this thread - so toss out this post if you like.

But has anyone pointed out to you, Ken, that Radiohead is also a band that has long despised stifling corporate entities the likes of MySpace? And that that should pretty much answer your question?

sonofhal

What's myspace?

Hannahrain
05-10-2007, 02:18 PM
Yeah but ken, they don't want one. They don't need it. Having a myspace isn't going to get them anything new, save for thousands of messages that will say "OMG I LOVE YOU THOM YORKE<3<3" and "Please come to Pennsylvania!".

Are you trying to distract them from their music?

kroqken
05-10-2007, 02:20 PM
Yorke can still do great music because his underlings will operate his page, not the band itself.

Hannahrain
05-10-2007, 02:21 PM
Make up your mind, Ken. This thread is not called "Why don't Yorke's underlings have a myspace page?".

schoolofruckus
05-10-2007, 03:54 PM
Actually, fuck it - I agree with Ken. Radiohead should make a band-sanctioned MySpace page so that Ken can have them on his Top 8.

I think Thom Yorke just shot himself so that he could roll over in his grave.
