Yes they did. The former producer is now in charge of video production and the assistant producer got bumped up to producer. Damn.

I still relayed the message, so who knows. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up for an answer, let's end it at that. I don't think the person is going to feel comfortable asking (it's one of those "professionalism" things.)

I'm going to see the real list next week. We are sick and tired of your bullshit lists/threads.

I did'nt even look at the bands in this thread's list.

as much as i myself highly doubt that daft punk will be at coachella in 09, it has been stated by busy p himself that the duo were working on an album this past summer.... just thought i would throw that out there

and i am sure someone might have already mentioned this, so before you jump down my throat, realize im not going to read through 8000+ post in the uncofirmed thread to figure this out.

thanks for the info jgd. its been mentioned and thats why the list was moved so we could start from scratch since we are 2 weeks away from the announcement... anyone who gets all butthurt and cuts down the list are the same ones who give the board nothing but crap anyways so its pointless to talk to them... any info is good info and for fun so thanks!!

We expect Daft Punk to be included in your epic BS "Top 3 headliners based on all sources" list. It's those kind of bullshits.

Do we really need this thread?

its just a rumored lineup.... due to certian sources, i cannot and will not confirm this lineup as fact. its for information purposes only... the previous thread i started was done 4 months ago just to keep everyone updated as to who might play, but as usual, some people tend to take alot of stuff too seriously so people now are assuming the list is me having either one on one talks with paul or just complete bullshit... '

ill say this one more time........ info i have is all over the internet and some of it you can just piece together....... even if i have the rough draft in front of me and i just tweak the lineup cuz ive been told to, would you really believe me? thats my point.... its all in fun and if you want the real lineup, u will have it in 2 weeks.. maybe sooner if we are nice! :)

i think out of the 30 high mid-tier acts, we will proably get half of those... i think there are too many in that group as well so it will proabably be trimmed down once more tour dates come out for some of these bands this week...

No Wilco rumored? They say they are touring the southern US in April, that has to at least put them on the rumor list.

Trent Reznor tells a Vegas crowd about secret dates in April he's not allowed to announce yet and that doesn't get them on the rumor list either?

These are both from the bands themselves. Come on and get with it. Those aren't confirmations but they sure as hell have to be strong rumors.

radiohead has got those shows in march, stadium shows so their setup will be ready for coachella, its been 5 yrs since they have headlined coachella and it would be a one-off show not a us tour. so it makes sense. unlesss something changes in the next few days, they are a frontrunner to be a sunday closer and it would help coachella sell tix to regroup from last year. it all makes sense.... its a safe play and i have good sources on it. but its not 100 percent.... ill say that every time. just relax and take a deep breath and lets hope they worked it out....

I'm just trying to figure out the rhyme or reason to the list. Are all those artists somehow much more possible than NIN and WILCO two bands who claim to be touring either the Southern US or to have secret dates they can't announce yet both in the month of April?

All of them on that list? Really?

Radiohead are blah blah blah every year and they never grace the lineup. I would love it if they weren't announced and just did a suprise mojavi appearance at 2pm on Saturday.

Honestly I just don't care if Radiohead are there. They went festival overload last year and i've just been hearing for so long about how their doing coachella again and again and again that I stopped caring. Give me like, Paul Simon with the whole african percussion playing Graceland and Garfunkel in a cage, only allowed out to play America... and maybe Bridge over Troubled Water... and then back in the cage for you!

That's really what I'm trying to figure out. I havent heard a single word on some of those other bands. It logistically seems like scoop just pulled them out of his ass.

Scoop, some of us would really like to know where a few of those names are coming from, seeing as they haven't been mentioned anywhere within the past few months. For example: The Orb.

And you know you can't come back after the lineup is out and say "hey look, I was right", because lets face it, if you list nearly 200 names, you're bound to get a few right.

patsfan5454

Well the shit gets dismissed and giggled at fairly quickly when it's the n00b screen names and poster but Scoop obviously doesn't fall into that category hence the questioning. I don't understand the difference between this thread and the last thread either. I'm just wondering what causes scoop to put a bands name on the list and leave others off who at least have soft hintings from the band themselves.

Right so another words we should all post our predictions in our own thread and we can have 900 threads. Scoop says "we" but it's just him throwing up bands against the wall and seeing if anything sticks.

Yes we get it - it's all for fun.

But what we don't get is how, normally in the first thread, names that he has "heaviliy rumored" are names that haven't even been spoken of around these parts for a couple of months. What we don't get are where these names are coming from.

What I want to know is what separates his list from a fake lineup.

Scooper was spot on in many of the bands.
So, I don't know why some boardmembers are so bitchy about this thread.

Maybe because last years was based on all the credible info outlined in last years thread where this year it says zero about myspace, latimes blogs, the bands themselves or the tour schedules.

I would say that's a pretty big difference between this year and last year. If it's the same then he can simply say so as he did last year. Instead this year we have two threads with little explanation as to why some bands are on and some are off the list.

Scooper was spot on in many of the bands.
So, I don't know why some boardmembers are so bitchy about this thread.

Here's the link to last years thread.

yeah, he updates his list almost daily adding anything anyone anywhere posts... including all rumors and leaks, up until the lineup is released, with all that, it's not so hard to get alot right...

i can name at least three bands on his list that he added just because i said they were playing... and even one that has said they are NOT playing...

BOTTOM LINE: IF YOUR ONLY REAL SOURCE IS THIS MESSAGE BOARD (or bloggers whose only source is this board), THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT!!!!!!

2. the list: honestly, do your own homework if you dont like the list.. its real simple. this is here for information purposes only.. you dont have to agree and if im right, so what? if im wrong, so what? it doesnt matter.........

3. i put this together because there a zillion things that are rumored so i try to put it under 1 thread so its easier for people to see who MIGHT BE PLAYING. notihng is ever ever ever confirmed until the lineup from paul comes out!!

4. if the message board was my only source, id take it...... there are some amazing music minded people in here and they love music as much as i do so dont cut down my brothers and sisters in here fucker! from paulb, to sbessiso to sacleaonard to teamcoach to massivechemicalpunk, we are all here cuz we love to talk music.

i have one problem with that, and thats the sources, i think everyone on here does care who and where the sources are coming from, thats what makes the information believable, so if every band had a source we could more or less do our own confirming of bands based on the source, i think a majority of the bands listed arent from credible sources like lurkers coming on here just posting in this thread

That's all fine and dandy too but you ultimately decide who makes the list and who doesn't despite the recommendations, correct? I have said weeks ago, a few days ago and over and over again today Wilco and NIN have both made statements in the last few weeks that they are touring in April. Trent said in Vegas he was playing shows in april he wasn't allowed to announce yet and Wilco sent an e-mail saying they are touring the southern US.

So, you basically take random board members and noobs over the bands themselves?

That just seems odd to ignore two big bands like that. We're talking a headliner and a subheadliner and they are not on your list yet you want us to give credibility to Salah and Paul (no offense to either of course) but you keep ignoring two bands that should at the very least be as credible as some board members thoughts, no?

Here are you best sources people:

Random REAL interviews.. a lot of the people who interview outside of the US, say when a band is in Germany or Australia.. bands will be more off the cuff and might just say 'we will be at coachella' or in the US in April.. Many bands have done that. Just search out for really recent interviews for the band you are looking for

Wikipedia -- check it often and at odd times. Real people with REAL information know Wikipedia more than say.. this message board. They will post something and then it will be removed later. Many have put the last line of what the bands are up to. It happens more than you think.

Yahoo -- surprisingly, they are pretty good. Their music dept. has no ties to pretty much anyone to do with GV/Coachella. They don't mind revealing bands or sources. Check their music interviews and general music blog.

Coachella Forum -- bitch all you want, but over the years but this forum has had more confirmations and general brainstorming than any other website. take everything with a grain of salt but again out of the 200 bands rumored on this website, you will have your line up within it somewhere.

LA Times Blog -- of course, they are great and they have REAL sources that talk to them all the time. same with pitchfork but they live by a code. LA doesn't so much ;)

BAD sources --

MySpace, 98% of bands don't have anything to do with their myspace and the people who do (Fox Interactive Media in Santa Monica, been in their offices too) are low level people who don't know anything. So they could mess with you or whatever they want to respond to you.

Labels -- the worst of the worst source. no info to give you and never will. they are like william morris agency.

Stereogum/Cos/Bloggers -- they steal from everyone, don't have any real sources and you might get one or two real bands out of it, but it's pain to get through it all. i don't even bother anymore.

Radiohead will not be playing Coachella. This has been confirmed by a former reporter with the L.A. Times.

For every band, there's a point where overwhelming desire eclipses the actual likelihood of them playing. I'd say that every year, Radiohead falls into this category. David Bowie ended up in it this year as well. The Smiths and Neil Young, there's a shred or two of evidence that they may be there, nothing incontrovertible, but it makes it that much easier to think they might show up. It's not that they're so likely to be playing, it's just that their names get brought up the most, so everybody mistakes that for some sign that they'll be there. It's almost a certainty that it won't happen, guys. And if it does, let's wait and be surprised, because it will be so much more awesome that way. But threads like this will most likely leave people disappointed with the actual lineup. That's what happened last year, don't pretend like it didn't.

It's fun to speculate, but it's not fun to put a list together and call it the tentative lineup. That ruins everything.

All it said is that he like us doesn't know but he heard a very strong rumor that Westerberg and the boys recently inked their deal to reunite this time around.

Unless you're inferring that GV leaked stuff to him just because he worked for the Times. Interesting.

Portishead was pretty much all I needed in 08. It turned out that Bjork was all I needed in 07. And in 06, I went on the strength of Depeche Mode and Franz Ferdinand, but I fell in love with Daft Punk and Massive Attack. What a great year for discovering music that was.

And for me I was uber pissed off at Roger Waters and Jack Johnson. I don't know if I will ever get over the year of Jack Johnson. It was like living in a twilight zone episode where everyone was like "isn't he great?!"... never again, please!!!!!!!

Real talk. If you looked at festival line ups and music magazine covers, you would think he was the biggest rock star on the planet last year. Yet he pretty much whiffed on every major music media list of top albums and songs from 2008. Oh well, let's put that behind us.

I had the avatar for a while too. Eventually everyone made me change it because people said it was getting them down too. It just sucks when one of your favorite bands, and a rare band (in North America anyways), is playing at the muisc festival you have been looking forward to all year... then just drop off the line up. Ugh.

Of course I was disapointed in Jack Johnson. Roger Waters was decent to me. However, the overall line up was a damn good line up. Everyone just got in a tizzy over the 3 headliners.

I thought Portishead as a headliner was quite sick acutally...in fact I even talked about it the previous year and everyone thought I was nuts...not after the performance they gave and if anyone should have been bumped down it was obvious it was JJ...at least Portishead's fans were screaming and happy to be there...JJ's fans just took a nap...The Roger Waters thing ended up being good..but I was just as skeptical since I remember him touring everywhere with it...but it ended being one of the top of Coachella shows (not performances mind you....)...

Radiohead got paid $3 million to headline two nights of APW. They averaged just under $1 million a night on their North American tour. It's hard to say whether they're one of these "high-cost headliners," but I think that Radiohead will draw way more people than Roger Waters or even Prince, and they'll do it for less. Still a lot, but less. My conclusion is that they're not out of the running.

Actually, I think I'd be okay with non-epic headliners, as long as the quality of the lineup is consistent. I think The Cure and NIN get around 500k for a show, and you know who would be a great choice for a budget headliner? The Flaming Lips.

So if it was The Flaming Lips, The Killers (but someone epic would have to be in the tent at the time, sorry), Neil Young, and there was a great undercard and mostly great subheadliners, and a few of these acts aren't ones that tour every other month (get JARVIS), it'd still be good.

Radiohead shows are always special. Remember, they had just spent all of 2003 touring, too. And did that stop all the fanboys from acting like obsessive basement-dwelling Star Wars nerds crossed with serial killers? Fuck no.

I know SO many people who want to see Radiohead but couldn't last year because of how fast all four shows in SoCal sold out. And I guarantee you that a vast majority of the people who did see Radiohead in this area last year (myself included), would be more than willing to go to Coachella and see them again.

Coachella may not be about repeating what went on in last year's festival circuit, but they are about undercutting all the other U.S. festivals and booking unique and major acts. A one-off U.S. show in 2009, similar to 2004, would be huge.

Getting a Lolla 2008 repeat with Radiohead >>>>>>>>>>>>> getting a Lolla 2006 repeat with RHCP and Manu Chao

I understand there's almost no chance that Radiohead will be there and all, but it would be dreamy and people need to knock it off with the anti-Radiohead bullshit. Just sayin'.

Ok, I have done some homework, and here are acts I am predicting (and hoping) for 2009 Coachella that would be dope!...

1. The Presets (almost a definite, they are playing Glass House on the 20th)
2. Crystal Castles
3. Late Of The Pier
4. Glass Candy
5. French Miami

See ya there!

Oh yeah my friend. You know the good stuff.-

THANK YOU! I went to Sasquatch 08 for The Cure and REM... and The Flaming Lips headlining set ended up being not only my favorite set at Sasquatch, but the best show I saw in all of 2008. The Flaming Lips are amazing live and I would be 100% down for them headlining. The Killers, The Flaming Lips, Neil Young would be excellent in my mind.

Not to be paranoid here but...
What if all this is to mess with our minds and they actually have a super machine where Hendrix and The Doors rise from the dead to play??
Ever consider that?!?!?!?!?!

Not everyone is an obsessive Radiohead fan. Just Sayin'.

But they have enough obsessive fans that they would sell out Coachella... easily.

Also, they deserve to be obsessed about.

I'm almost getting to the point where I'll be dissapointed if Neal Young isn't there.

Radiohead did a great job of selling out APW. Just Sayin'.

First time festival with a really weak lineup surrounding them. Coachella is on a much bigger scale and in a much more demanding market. Just Sayin'.

This would be awesome, I would be saving about $1,000 by not going.

So did Rage, and they sold it out much faster than Radiohead could. Plus if I remember correctly they did not sell out in 2004 until the day of the fest. My point is there are other bands that could sell it out too. Plus i don't all weekend surrounded by obsessive Radiohead fans. Much worse than the Rage fans to me.

Are you all smoking meth or something?
