I changed my mind about Animal Collective. I want them to play mainstage, Friday night at 9:30pm, with Fleet Foxes opening during the sunset. Animal Collective would then play Fireworks for their finale, with a Fireworks show starting near the end of the song.

me and some buddies are i believe. do premiere tickets usually sell out pretty quickly? and its just one ticket per site right? so if you have 4 people with you, you can split it up and it be like, $40?

Yes -- one ticket per car.

I believe they sold out in the first day / first few hours last year. I bought tickets on Sunday morning (they went on sale on saturday) and the premier were gone.

the short of it, the premier is nice, the normal camping is basically a field of weeds with random fenced in trash heaps and junk yard stuff. it is a full on party all day and people come around in the morning and sell you breakfast items infused with weed.

i have been talking with someone from live nation for a few weeks and looks like i am getting one but was just wondering if anyone was able to, also with it will i get a free pass to the show as well?

i dont want to ask the live nation person these questions for fears of getting shot down even though i am working for a few la based webzines, one being pretty huge.

Chia and Fax, glad you can make it again this year. I would be interested to hear your critique of Wildhorse v. Premium. I know you will enjoy the main campground more, but maybe the cost of Wildhorse will eventually have you claiming it is better. I think you will have a much better time at the main campground though. We'll discuss three months from now.

I'm guessing here, but haven't they had Premiere Parking in the past for around that price? You wouldn't need it if you're camping, and I've never used it myself, but I think that's what it was.

On another note, my group accidentally bought 2 Premiere Camping passes (lack of communication) so if they sell out and anyone wants one, I'll sell one at cost.

I have no idea what that additional $28 fee is for. I certainly didn't opt for it.
I got a $12.75/ticket convenience fee on my 3 day passes and a $12.90 fee on my Premier camping. Additionally, there was a $3.40 Order Processing Charge on the whole purchase.

This is only the 2nd year they've even had comedy in the lineup so there's no history to go by. And considering the tent is comedy by day and dance tent by night it's pretty safe to say that the comedy won't be opposite any headliners.

yea, I do too actually. wildhorse was chill, but there didn't seem to be any party like atmosphere until monday night and even then it was low key. my friends that might go, really like the low key atmosphere I told them about at wildhorse, so if they decide to go that's where i'll be. the cool thing about premier though is that you can have both from what I hear.

looks like I have at least 1 partner for sasquatch, it's just a bummer that it came at the expense of my coachella buddy.

g0k1ngsg0
02-26-2009, 04:54 PM
So, do we know if the dance tent is after hours or if it is opposite of headliners?

we don't know for sure, but the discussion has been leaning to it going up against a (sub)headliner. there were so many problems with the late night screening of xmas on mars last year, that I don't think they have the security to keep the grounds open passed 1am or so.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that we might have a dance act after a headliner wraps up for an hour or so though - but unless they make the dance tent bigger than last year, I don't think that is all likely.

chiapet
02-26-2009, 04:55 PM
well, wild horse was just really quiet. i didn't have any problems with it otherwise. it was actually pleasantly surprising that everyone i talked to there was really cool and interesting to talk to. unlike coachella where I find myself sandwiched between neon sunglasses wearing 18 year olds while waiting for 60 minutes for a shower. :)

kreutz2112
02-26-2009, 04:55 PM
I was originally going to camp at the Sasquatch grounds, but my friend that lives in Seattle said him and 16 of his friends have 4 spots reserved at Wildhorse. I've known this kid for over 10 years and if his friends in Seattle are anything like his friends in Salt Lake it won't be low key.

chiapet
02-26-2009, 04:56 PM
are there any noise curfews there? i'm assuming not, it's so isolated.

chiapet
02-26-2009, 04:59 PM
kreutz, you will have fun, the campgrounds are very nice and well-kept, the people that ran the place were pretty awesome, there is a little kitchen that they serve food out of (which was decent).

it was just quiet -- some people stayed up really late but they were really quiet, there wasn't loud music, loud groups, etc. if "partying" to you includes a lot of noise, then it probably isn't the best choice. the people who run the place, while really cool, will stifle it. they are trying to make the place enjoyable for the majority.

g0k1ngsg0
02-26-2009, 05:00 PM
no noise curfews, they have had multiple late night sets to make up for when weather causes a band not to play.

i think it's all about dollars, so the question then becomes, "is the dance tent enough of a draw to warrant staffing security and vendors x number of hours?" and I have to assume the answer to that is no unfortunately, even if they run a minimal staff.

chiapet
02-26-2009, 05:01 PM
Well, having a dance tent at all is a positive step -- if they see it well attended, maybe we can hope for later sets next year.

g0k1ngsg0
02-26-2009, 05:02 PM
yea, wildhorse will let you have a good time as long as it's not at the expense of others.

since you have 4 spots reserved, you guys will have a decent sized area and can probably get away with a little bit more noise. just tell them that you might be a little loud and request them to place you in one of the corners when you get there.

g0k1ngsg0
02-26-2009, 05:05 PM

already looking forward to next year, huh? :P

here's to hoping! with so many people onsite, and nothing around for miles it really does make sense that they get some later sets. I'd love it if the dance tent started after the headliners finished up and went til 3-4am.

I'd love to see it like this:
mainstage sub headliner > wookie headliner > main stage headliner > dance headliner > dance subhedliners

so, i haven't heard from my work one way or the other about whether or not i will have the time off, so i am coming here for advice!

i'm...let's say, 75% sure they are going to say yes to me getting the time off. should i buy my tickets this weekend to get the good price and if, by some off chance, they deny the request off i can then sell the ticket? or do you think it's not worth the risk? i don't want to be stuck with the ticket if i can't go, but i would hate to have them say yes in a week or something and then i will have missed out on the cheap tickets.

I am back to clueless as to noise ordinances there. Yes, it makes sense they shouldn't have one at all, since it is in the middle of nowhere, but it is still a small town, and the land is privately owned, so you never know who has power, and if they are a bit of a curmudgeon.

Bjork at Sasquatch 07 is the only band/act who has been scheduled past midnight, she was scheduled to play until 1230am. So unless anything has changed, it seems very unlikely there is a midnight curfew. Ozomatli and the Polyphonic Spree have also played late night shows the past two years (but really, isn't the campground a bit more entertaining than either of those acts?)

The Sasquatch website states quiet time is between 2am and 8am, so if a dance tent goes late, it won't go until 3 or 4 am. Like anyone cares about the 2am quiet time though at the main campground. Security does start making the rounds at about 4am telling people to turn their music off, and music at that time of night is like coffee in the morning, it keeps you going, so the parties usually start to fizzle out around 5-530am. I hear it is much much more peaceful in premier though. You will still hear random drunk people howling from the main grounds all night. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

There are only a couple dance tent acts each night, and correct me if I'm wrong, but there are less comedy acts than last year? This would lead me to believe the early part of the comedy tent will mimic last year's schedule, except the headliner and subheadliner spots would be replaced by electronic music. Last year, the comedy was finished well before the headliners started. I have a hard time believing the organizers of this festival would put anyone against a headliner (except Explosions in the Sky against the early part of sleepy Ben Harper). Maybe the dance tent is only intended to draw people who don't like the acts from 6-9?

Well, if you pay in cash there is a minor amount of savings (which apparently WA state TM has now done away with) and I also thought you could avoid one of the convenience fees or something...basically I forgot I was dealing with TM.

All that it cost me was Premier Camping, but I'm just using the money I would have spent on those tickets to purchase Fischerspooner tickets.

Yeah, Ticketmaster is a joke. I checked what it would be to buy my Fischerspooner ticket online vs. at the box office; $34.39 vs. $22.00, a 56% increase. That's insane. I'm stopping by the Showbox Box office tomorrow to get my ticket to this and X.

I know what you mean. I hated having to pay $15 fees on top of $25 tickets at Fillmore. And I can't do the box office because I'm never really in SF, so I just stopped going. The shows I want to go to sell out anyway so me not buying it isn't hurting TM at all. It sucks.

WKUK and Crystal Castles! Alright! What I love about Sasquatch is that it's the backup to any Coachella conflicts. If you happen to miss the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or TVOTR or some other band, you're fine.

That being said, how much do you think premier camping tix will go for on eBay or Craigslist?

The reason why I am asking is because I am afraid that M83/of Montreal will conflict with NIN/Jane's.

Anyone know if Deadmau5 is playing a dj set or live set?

For those who don't know what I'm referring to, read the Biography section on his Myspace
http://www.myspace.com/deadmau5

The gist is he has a new live performance operating off of Ableton using some midi controllers, but also instead of wearing a mau5head helmet he has a giant mau5head stage setup "complete with powerful strobe lighting eyes" which would be cool. When he dj's he plays almost all his own songs anyways so there won't be too much of a change with the music, but I've seen him dj so the live setup would be interesting...

I'm genuinely interested, why do so many people really like Gogol Bordello? Are they just a lot of fun live or something?

Gogol Bordello at Coachella 07 is the best show I have ever seen in my entire life. No Gogol show I have seen after that has matched up to it, but what is still common at at Gogol shows is the sense of community in the crowd. Everyone is there to have a good time. Everyone wants to dance, and jump and sing and be friends. Gogol Bordello have the friendliest, most rowdy pits I have ever been in. At Coachella 08 I got a bloody nose and as soon as it started bleeding, 3 people offered my tissues without me even having to ask anyone. I have gotten bloody noses at shows before, and this never happens. At a Gogol show, you feel like everyone around you is your best friend. Everyone around you has the same stupid smile on their and no one can wipe it off. As for the band themselves, they are more than just a life show, they are a theatrical expereince. Excpect frantic energy from every member of the band, costume changes, back up dancers, audience participation, wine drinking and a whole lot more. Whatever you do, Gogol Bordello are a MUST see band.

Fikus, think of a completely insane, non-violent pit without anyone thrashing or flailing their about like you'd find at hardcore shows. Like rage was saying, the sense of community doesn't get much stronger at a live show. The band's energy and performance quality is second to none as well, it's damn near impossible to resist dancing in that atmosphere. Their shows range from good on a down night to completely epic if they're on. Having seen 7 Gogol shows since 2007 I've got both sides of the spectrum. The latter, a Lolla after show last summer, was one of if not the best two hours of live music I've ever experienced. While better in smaller venues, they're not to be missed whenever the opportunity arises. And to top it all off, the band are great people to boot. Well deserving of the support.

Click on the Lineup, then clicking on each band will give you the stage they are playing (which has been posted for a month), and the times they will play.

The times are debatable, since they list NIN 8-9 and Jane's Addiction 10-11. I agree with the starting times, but there is no way NIN stops at 9, and it is likely Jane's Addiction goes past 11.

I don't know what system they are using, because the only Dance Tent act that has a set time is the recent addition, Amanda Blank, who's on from 730-830 Monday.

Edit:

Oh wait, Natalie Portman's Shaved head is on from 9pm-9pm in the Dance Tent on Sunday and James Pants is on from 9pm-9pm on Saturday (I'm guessing those 9-9s will change to allow for an act on after...hopefully the Crystal Castles on Saturday at 10 something). I told all of you that there would be a partial NIN/M83 conflict and NIN/Of Montreal conflict.

Also, have Gogol end at 4:50 and Monotonix start at 4:55 would be absolutely nuts.

I really wish I could make it this year.

EDIT: Also, Crystal Castles vs. KOL is WIN.

Yea, the Gogol -> Monotonix is going to be rough. Like a few hundred other people, I suspect, I'll be leaving Gogol early and running to the Wookie.

The bonnaroo set times should be out by Sasquatch, right? Some of my decisions may rest on those, as well as who I get to see at Coachella...

not to burst anyone's bubble, but the tent was not very big last year, and I don't know that there is enough land to make it much bigger this year. In other words, don't expect to get into the tent to see an electronic band that fits your fancy without waiting in line 30 minutes or more.

Take Saturday for example, out of roughly 20,000 people, I would give a safe estimate that at least 4,000 would rather see the Crystal Castles over the Kings of Leon, or would rather see anything that isn't the Kings of Leon. How many did the tent hold last year, I would be surprised if it was more than 1,500, probably more like half that.

So if you really want to see Crystal Castles, you will probably have to skip Bon Iver and YYYs to get a spot in line, and that is more of a fact than a guess.

I'm only going Saturday and Sunday. Here's what it looks like for me:

Saturday

2:20 - 3:05 Doves
4:30 - 5:15 Devotchka
5:40 - 6:40 Animal Collective
7:05 - 8:05 The Decemberists
8:30 - 9:30 Yeah Yeah Yeahs
10:00 - 11:30 Kings of Leon

Sunday

1:10 - 1:50 Street Sweeper
3:05 - 3:50 Calexico
3:40 - 4:25 St. Vincent
5:20 - 6:10 The Murder City Devils
7:15 - 8:15 M83
8:00 - 9:30 Nine Inch Nails
10:00 - 11:30 Jane's Addiction

The M83/NIN/Of Montreal conflict isn't so bad for me. I'm seeing NIN 3 other times and I'm probably gonna check out Of Montreal at Bonnaroo. So M83 wins and I'll likely have to miss some of NIN's set.

If they were smart and let's hope they are, they have to be working on some way to expand the tent to accommodate for the added dance oriented traffic.

Edit:

How far is it between the stages? Is it a relatively painless transit to and from acts?

it depends how close you want to be to the sasquatch stage. if you are right infront of the stage it is a walk to the other stages and it is all up hill. i would say, around 15 minutes or so from the front of the sasquatch stage to the either of the other ones.

I highly doubt this. All of it actually. Mostly, I doubt 4,000 of 20,000 people will be heading over to see CC before YYY's were finished (Sasquatch definitely tends to be a more casual music crowd, and while CC are well known I doubt there will that many people interested in lining up for them). Sasquatch is always really laid back, people don't rush anywhere. And most people will have no interest in standing in line to get in. I doubt this will be a huge problem. Also, a friend I talked to who volunteers said the tents will be bigger (although I have no clue by how much).

I'm with you. Granted, I'm not going, I'm spending the weekend in Portland so that I can see the residual acts from the festival that I'm most excited about in smaller venues (Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors).

Regardless, the lineup shaped up pretty good this year.

The Sasquatch Music Festival, to be held May 23-25 at the Gorge in Quincy, Wash., has sold a record 65,000 tickets since its Feb. 28 on-sale. "People are trimming their expenses and faraway vacations and instead doing things like going to concerts and a more reasonable close-by festival like Sasquatch," festival founder/producer Adam Zacks says.
