So after last years amazing Daft Punk set that was captured by who the hell knows, I want to know if anyone else is planning on trying to get some recording gear in there and recording some sets. What sets? What equipment are you using? We need more high quality bootlegs.

yeah, boldcaptain wont be there this year, that really sucks....but there's usually some solid tapers there (sleepypedro is another guy who records, though he doesn't share a lot of his recordings). Rage will def be taped though, heck, I think there were 6 sources for Tool last year!

boo no boldcaptain? Hmm Disc Live did an ok job with the Pixies one. The new company Pixies got now to do their live records is a million times better, it was worth the 2 month wait for the live album since it didnt get mixed on the spot...

there's a guy on zomb (JWB) who remastered and uploaded all the early 2004 pixies shows...if you guys can get a hold of those, I would recommend it, they're awesome, he did a great job on em.

Count me out. New house and new baby means money better spent someplace else. Especially when they insist on draging out old acts like RHCP, RATM, BJORK, Tiesto, PVD, I mean, cmon guys... Unless they add some spectacular acts (Police excluded, as I'm sure if they tour, NYC will be on their itinerary). Now If someone would just tape the Sahara tent....

So any tips to those tapers out there who will be recording sets? How do they get that excellent sound quality that you got for Daft Punk?

Unfortunately no.
If I get my hands on other people's digital camera's then yes.
Haha.

Haha.

If the plan is to take your digital camera and record a movie on it for 45 minutes thats not really what I was referring to as "bootleg" I can do that. pretty much everyone with a digital camera can do that. I am talking about the people with the professional Microphones and MiniDisc recorders that can set EQ levels and sound quality.

yeah...I meant either MD's, DAT's, or hard disk recorders, using high end microphones and such. I have 2.5gb worth of memory cards for my digi cam, but no way am I wasting that many batteries just to record some crappy vid of a few sets

Where are these bootlegs available from ? Please don't say p2p networks as I avoid them like the plague.

Thanks.

Yeah, BoldCaptain is a hero. Between Daft Punk and Kraftwerk, the man has really made my listening experience more enjoyable.

Did boldcaptain record the Massive Attack show last year. The recording I have of that is almost as good as the DP recording.

I hate bootlegging and illegal downloading, that is what killed Tower Records, although their high prices did not help their cause.

How do bootlegs have any correlation with illegal downloading? I don't know many people who download bootlegs of bands they aren't already fans of.

Oh shit, I mixed up terms. I guess being an English teacher is not in my future, although I am a good writer overall.

I don't know how that guy got the equipment in last year to record Daft Punk, but i was standing like three feet from him. He was a little more than halfway back in center of the tent. He had two mics and headphones on, I didn't see what he was using but it was a trip when I heard the bootleg.

Does anyone have the Tool botleg or know where to find it???

yes, to any tapers who are reading this....please please consider recording some of the sahara acts (Digitalism, Justice, MSTRKRFT, Richie Hawtin)

and to answer a previous question...yes Boldcaptain recorded Massive Attack last year (along with two Tool sources that night as well), but another guy recorded Massive Attack and Tool that night as well. So I think the tally is 2 AUD recordings for Massive Attack, and 6 AUD recordings for Tool (4 of which were commonly circulated afterwards).

i saw a guy with a nice-looking recorder and stereo mic toward the front during LCD. here's hoping he shares what he recorded.
