BlackSwan

It depends where I find out the information from. If I get a really reliable rumor, but I am not told not to say anything I post it. Like this one for Treasure Island...

Flaming Lips and MGMT?

Scoop, on the other hand, some how finds out about Paul McCartney, and then deletes it when Goldenvoice leans on him.

the major ones i never post.... those are my gems.. but the ones i get from like, office people, or dj's, or others at least in the music industry or inside a little, ill spill it and usually nothing comes of it but its funny to throw it out there and watch people really get upset!

the prince one in 08 was awesome to spill cuz at that point not many people chose to believe but my buddy who works for prince;s road crew and ive known forever gave me info and it was amazing when it came true! :)

i have lots of friends who work OSL... and i know the 3 they are going after that are on their wishlist... they are confident they will get one of the 3, i just cant say who even if its bullshit

then others is just browsing the internet like everyone else! :) its all in fun...

BlackSwan
07-30-2009, 04:40 PM
Scoop, are you contractually obligated not to say anything? If you aren't then you are just a pussy looking for attention, which I already knew.

To be more specific, Sleepingrock, Scoop will say he knows all sorts of things, but never share any of it. He will also start threads just cause a commotion, and draw attention to himself.

I am just trying to give back what I can. I hope that clears it up for you.

scoop49er
07-30-2009, 04:45 PM
again..... people get so mad and honestly blackswan, i fucking laugh every single time i read it... everyone seems to know my posts and it cracks me up...

i just throw it out there.... honestly do u think i need attention here to have fun? the answer is no. most of the time i get the info i need from other people on the board and some i make friends with and a few have met and had a great time with...

the rumors are rumors and please ask your fucking lame ass this.. do i really give a shit??

just by you calling me a pussy again gives me a chuckle and proves yet again some of you have got to go get some strange pussy and lighten up! lmao!

now once again, im looking forward to the festival and i hope it comes soon....

:) now go fuck off! :) i say with luv of course! lol

I'm pretty sure that you could walk around with wine. I also seem to remember there being glasses for certain tastings, but I didn't really investigate too thoroughly.

If you're a meat eater, the pulled pork sandwich from Maverick is pretty amazing considering that it's festival food.

Also, Yats is showing up this year with Po' Boys. The owner's a Katrina refugee from New Orleans, so it tastes like he knows what he's doing.

u never win on a message board

This isn't universal--it's only your experience. For example, you are a 40+ year old divorced piece of shit giving stupid arguments on a message board. You've already lost. If you can lose on a message board, you can also win.

The Bread
What makes a po-boy special is the bread. A po-boy isn't a po-boy unless it's made with good quality, fresh French bread. New Orleans French bread has a crunchy crust with a very light center. The loaves are about 3' in length, and are about 3-4" wide. Time was that many a corner bakery made their own French bread, but there are only three bakerys left in town that make true French bread: Gendusa's, Leidenheimer's, and Binder's. [Note: The "wonderfully stubborn Reising family" were bought out by Leidenheimer's.] Many of the larger grocery stores make bread that they call "French bread," but it's not made in the old brick ovens that the real bakeries use, so it doesn't come out with the same contrast between crust and center.

The Fillings
Roast beef and shrimp are the most popular fillings for a po-boy, but just about anything can be put inside a loaf of French bread and taste good. Freshness and quality are the two most important aspects of what goes inside a po-boy. Many places do an excellent hamburger or cheeseburger po-boy because they can cook the patties to order.

Same goes for seafood fillings like oysters and shrimp. Roast beef and ham are a different story. The average lunch counter doesn't roast their own meat anymore, so the places that do really stand out. A good gravy can go a long way to compensate for not roasting your own meat, which is why some otherwise average places do good barbecue beef and ham po-boys.

There's really no limit to what can be made into a po-boy. Streetcar Sandwiches does a great smothered duck po-boy, for example [when they stil existed, that is]. Fried catfish is growing in popularity. The low-fat movement has prompted several places to add grilled chicken breasts to their po-boy menus, but the combination of ingredients that make a great po-boy don't lend themselves to restricted diets, so this addition to the menus hasn't been that earth-shaking.

The name "po-boy" is, of course, a shortened version of "poor boy." The name stems from the fact that a po-boy used to be a very inexpensive way to get a very solid meal. The least expensive po-boys on the menu will almost always be those with the cheapest fillings. Luncheon meat, sausage, and French fries. French fries? You betcha! A French fry po- boy with roast beef gravy is a wonderful treat. Watching guys in suits eating French fry po-boys down in the CBD may seem like a "what is wrong with this picture" scene, but you won't understand until you try one. Same for a luncheon meat po-boy with roast beef gravy. Italian and hot sausage po-boys are cheaper than roast beef or shrimp, but they're still good if the sausage is good.

Dressed, or Nuttin' on it ...
This is one of those questions than can hang up a tourist like a deer caught in the headlights. You think you've figured out whatever little place in which you're standing in line. You get to the front of the line, and you order your po-boy. The lady behind the counter asks a one word question: "Dressed?" You look at her like she's crazy. Of course you're dressed! No, silly, what about your sandwich? What do you want on it? Do you want it dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, or do you just want nuttin' on it?

Eating a po-boy either way is proper. Some people just want roast beef, gravy, and maybe a little Creole mustard. Some want theirs dressed all the way, so that the mayo and gravy mix together and fall out of the bread in a sloppy mess. Seafood po-boys are ordered with just butter, maybe butter and ketchup, or with the full treatment. The amount of mayo usually is the key factor in just how messy your sandwich will be. Remember, a po-boy place isn't McDonald's (and thank God for that) -- you'll get yours made the way you want it if you speak up.

not that we need more evidence of the search button sucking, but searching this forum for 'outside' returns no results.

I don't know if the announcement happened yet but APE have the night shows listed:

rickshaw stop:
wed 26th: the Dodos, Spencey Dude & the Doodles
thur 27th: Akron/Family, Howlin' Rain
sat 29th: The Dirtbombs, The Sermon, Ty Segall
sun 30th: Gang Gang Dance, Ariel Pink, Amanda Blank

mezzanine:
fri 28th: ALO, Counter Clarkwise (Josh Clark and Steve Molitz), Newfangled Wasteland

the independent:
fri 28th: Street Sweeper Social Club

Well since no one's said it and it makes a bit of sense, my guess (hope) is Paul McCartney. He's playing 8/19, and claimed it would be his last US tour date, but money and desperation can change minds. Neil Young won't do it with Bridge School coming not long after (Oct.), while Green Day seems more probable save for the 5+ "secret" shows they've already done in the Bay Area. By the same logic, maybe a big 60,000 person blowout shot would compliment those "secret" shows well. In terms of hip hop performers in lieu of the Beasties, I think Rock the Bells nixes any of the major players. I sure hope they announce a replacement tomorrow because I honestly cannot remain in the dark about something this major when the show is in 25 f-ing days!

Uh, Paul has plenty of money and he's nowhere near desperate. What kind of logic is that???

I agree, but meant more that if the promoters of Outside Lands were desperate enough, I'm sure enough money could persuade him to stay stateside for 2 more weeks. He didn't do any other West Coast shows beside Coachella, so it's not like he's exhausted his fanbase either. I know it's highly improbable, but I don't see anyone giving clearer evidence for anyone else.

not that we need more evidence of the search button sucking, but searching this forum for 'outside' returns no results.

I don't know if the announcement happened yet but APE have the night shows listed:

rickshaw stop:
wed 26th: the Dodos, Spencey Dude & the Doodles
thur 27th: Akron/Family, Howlin' Rain
sat 29th: The Dirtbombs, The Sermon, Ty Segall
sun 30th: Gang Gang Dance, Ariel Pink, Amanda Blank

mezzanine:
fri 28th: ALO, Counter Clarkwise (Josh Clark and Steve Molitz), Newfangled Wasteland
sat 29th: Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band

the independent:
fri 28th: Street Sweeper Social Club
sat 29th: Calexico, Sergio Mendoza y La Orkesta
sun 30th: Os Mutantes, Extra Golden

conor oberst at the mezzanine is kinda odd, though I may go to that. pretty solid night shows actually. I'm taking the night shows over the festival.

ill for sure go to the street sweeper one...

the longer they wait, the more it could be a bigger name none of us are expecting or a name so big we would not assume it to begin with.....

Ranger Dave is making final preparations for Outside Lands. He will be announcing 9 night shows tomorrow and 10+ DJs spinning in GGP.

I think the DJs are going to be terrible.

They mostly book terrible DJs at the Xbox 360 DJ tent (whatever they call it) at Bonnaroo, I'm assuming it's going to be equally bad.

Unless it's Paul McCartney or Prince level, or a band with obsessive fans like Tool or Green Day, they need to move it. The masses need time to buy tickets.

so forgetting the headliner nobody will care about and back to the reasonably cool aftershows, I can't decide on what to do friday night. street sweeper social club at the independent, ALO at the mezzanine... or now a new show has popped up on ape's site:

Beats Antique, Pleasuremaker (live), Mopo, Senor Oz at the Poleng Lounge

just where the fuck is the Poleng Lounge?!?

despite never having heard of them, Beats Antique sounds cool:

BEATS ANTIQUE, an oakland based group featuring ZOE JAKES, DAVID SATORI, AND SIDECAR TOMMY, which has stumbled down the rabbit hole and emerged anew on the other side. BEATS ANTIQUE forges a curious alliance between middle eastern traditions and potent west coast circus, underground hip hop, breakbeat brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep.

Supporting their 2nd album, COLLIDE (2008 CIA records), BEATS ANTIQUE'S DJ sets on BASSNECTAR'S "THE OTHER SIDE" tour feature their diverse sound collage as the opening act for one of the nation's most well known DJ's. ZOE JAKES, nominated as Zaghareet's "Best Interpretive Artist 2007", presents a unique take on Tribal bellydance, influenced by Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and Indian classical dance. BEATS ANTIQUE has brought the paradox of electro-acoustic music into the future

alright maybe it sounds a little cheesy.

smartass or not ill tell you....

sound guy who works for prince who i have known for 15 years was told to be ready for some private/club shows and a rough draft schedule of 2010 dates will come out soon as well.. be set for setups for club size as wel as festival size....

prince is supposed to play some european festivals next year as he has to start promoting his website which he makes people pay 77.00 and has not had much but it is being set up so the presales will go through that site when he announces his shows.....

as a fan, i dont think he is doing much other than possible relocating to minneapolis and settling in... prince is also still thinking of doing some rare "prince and the revolution" shows with the original lineup from what the other fanatics have heard...

he is due to play some shows and for some reason likes to do one-off shows or just play a extended amt of shows in one place..... i think OSL would be perfect... but some club shows would better IMO.

enough with the headliner. it's going to be a disappointment, accept it.

has anybody heard if the night shows are going to be on sale at a box office anywhere? $10 a ticket is a great deal, but through ticketmaster two tickets will end up costing me $32.75. I know the independent sometimes has tickets to APE shows at their box office. I'm emailing them to find out if that's the case for these shows.

I have no reason to expect the headliner to be disappointing. This is a festival that got Radiohead last year. Why not ride the high while we can still speculate. Obviously if we didn't care we wouldn't be on a message board bantering about it.

they may pull a good headliner, and if they do I may still attend sunday. but when we are hoping for prince or paul mccartney they aren't going to meet expectation. hence disappointment.

it's more than a 50% markup.

those hopes are 1 in a million hopes so disappointment will be only be in them replacing the beastie with a sub headliner and not a legit one like lolla did...

everyone is throwing out ideas and Tool has got to be the odds on favorite

but Bruce would be fucking Epic.

Prince would be the ultimate...:)

anyone ever stayed at the Encore Express?

I haven't been there, but that's where I'm booked to stay for the weekend. It looks pretty legit (one or two poor reviews), and it's cheap as hell so I say go for it. I like neighborhood it's in too. Only blocks away from Union Square/Chinatown/Downtown, so I'll have plenty of shit to do afterward.

On a somewhat related note, do any of you SF residents know where to park without paying obscene amounts of money?

saw this on OL board:

"Tool will be announced as the Sunday headliner either Friday or early next week, the reason for the delay was because Tool is playing the Epicenter Fest. and OSL had an agreement with them if they are to add Tool they had to wait to the last minute (this explains alot) so OSL would not take from Epicenter's ticket sales. This is not a rumor!!! Also, Linkin Park was also in consideration, but Tool has signed on...I have never really been in to Tool but I have heard nothing but GREAT things about them so I look forward to seeing my 1st Tool show.
Now everyone owes me a beer because these dicks couldnt tell you the headliner and I did...BTW, they have had Tool locked up for over 2 weeks and had to sit on it."

From Powell station which should be close to you, I think you can get there by taking the 5 muni and it will just be $2 each way and drop you off right there, but will be very crowded. Otherwise you can try for street parking somewhere around the park and just walk. You could try getting there early and trying to park on Irving or Judah or somewhere around that neighborhood, but just prepare to be walking a while because its most likely going to be packed.

shakermaker113
08-06-2009, 07:12 AM
parking in those neighborhoods can be a nightmare when there isn't a festival going on in the park. last year we spoke to a guy who ended up parking so far away he had to get a cab from his car to the park. ridiculous.

That has the ring of truth to me. Tool was always the most logical choice and the reason for the delayed announcement (Epicenter) makes too much sense. Outside Lands will be lucky to have them.

I have never had a problem parking in those neighborhoods when there wasn't a festival, I have never even had a problem finding street parking on Lincoln to be honest, but i'm sure it will be crazy for OSL.

My advice to anyone getting there is take muni anyway, then you can drink and not have to drive, and not have to worry about parking.

if you get there before the music starts, you can find a spot... i found some and was only 2 blocks away from park and another quarter mile from the entrance. so it was about a 10 min walk total and it was fine... :)

if you go later, forget it....

For the same reason that the poster claims it will be Tool, I claim it won't be. This new festival is ok with their headliner playing relatively close by a week later? OLF isn't concerned about booking someone that just played said nearby festival? I don't buy it.

So who will it be then? Tool has always been the most obvious choice to replace an act that was already booked. Why the fuck would OSL care that Tool is booked to play a Epicenter? The Beastie Boys were scheduled to headline Street Scene the same weekend as OSL so clearly that's not a concern for the promoters. The only effect Epicenter will have on this scenerio is what the man pointed out in his post - delaying the announcement of Tool being added. Thus Ranger Dave's tweet that he's having trouble "keeping the secret."

Tool is the obvious choice but who knows at this point.....

these have been the top 4 predicted here......

Tool (no nor-cal dates and is available)
Green Day (no san francisco dates and tour schedule is open)
Metallica (back from euro tour and SF is home base to them.. schedule is open)
Neil Young (doing just a handful of shows. schedule is open)

Longshots:
Bruce Springsteen (schedule is open. no west coast dates)
Linkin Park (only doing 1 show in august. schedule is open)
Jay-Z (did a headliner spot at APW. schedule is open)
Prince (prepping for shows has done one-offs many times. schedule is open)
Paul Mccartney (schedule is open. doing a few east coast stadium shows)

anyone else?? and dont fucking say Limp Bizkit! lol

They probably don't care but I don't want them so I'm trying to reason my way out of it. Do you honestly expect OSL not to announce a headliner until what, 8/23? I'm selling my tickets this weekend if there isn't someone instead of ??? on that poster.
