So ... sitting here between loads of laundry drinking my coffee ... and a commercial comes on with The Buzzcocks ... Everybody's Happy Nowadays.

I always get a jolt out of hearing good tune on a commercial ... thinking someone is doing something right ... and the Buzzcocks have been used before (Toyota Rav4 used "What do I Get?", I believe)

The commercial continues, people are flinging cake, jumping around, balloons flying, yammering about birthdays, and I'm wondering what this commercial is for ...

Then it comes ...

It's for the fukkin AARP ... AARP!!! Buzzcocks + AARP ... Say it ain't so! Are you KIDDING me? Christ, am I that old!?!?!

Ok, vent session over.

I agree that's scary. What scarier is that I bought that on 7" when it first came out and now I'm only 6 years away from my AARP card. I've heard from various friends and colleagues that they will find you on your 50th birthday where ever you're hiding...

Oh, and Pete Shelley's 51:

I think that's my favorite Buzzcocks song. I think I'll go join the AARP. It's important to raise the taxes on you young kids to fund old fart's lifestyles.

I was wrong. 'Harmony in My Head' is my favorite Buzzcocks song. Fuck the AARP!

I don't remember where I heard this before but i just remember it was an older man going on and on about the use of a song on a commericial.
"That song used to mean something, but now they're just using it to try and sell their cars. They're vampires, they're really dead you know. They are sucking the life out of the living, they ***y on the blood of something that was actually once alive, and they forever taint its heart."

Doesn't Of Montreal sing the OUTBACK theme? I think they changed the lyrics of, "Wraith Pinned..."

of montreal re-recorded it into a new song.. "let's go outback tonight.. life will still be there to-ma-a-rowwww". hilarious.

also, i got an invitation to join the AARP and i'm about 25 years too young. i was highly offended.

Tom, go back and listen to Autonomy, I think that you'll find that's actually your favorite.

Sorry to point out your error, but us old folks have to help each other out. If only there was some association we could join that gave us ********s and benefits to recognize our years of service to society.

I totally thought that sounded like an indie band. That makes sense.

Ken. how do you do it?

I guess when you're a social outcast you don't have to care about annoying people.
