View Full Version : If Green Day headlines a festival this year...

...Does anyone else think it will be between Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza? I've read a lot of people speculating they might be a Coachella headliner due to their new album, but the latter two festivals seem more probable.

Coachella and Lolla are the two most likely not Bonnaroo.

I'd prefer they not headline Coachella. I think Lollapalooza is a better fit for them.

Whatever. I dont want them to headline Coachella but when I saw them in 05, I was massively blown away. To this day it still remains one of my top shows, Billy Joe and the boys sure know how to have fun. They sounded incredible, gave us a perfect setlist of classic, new and cover songs and really were genuinely having a great time on stage. That kind of positive energy really radiates and the crowd picks up on that

No. What gives you the idea that they would play Bonnaroo? They would get bottled there. Friday at Coachella is fine, otherwise no thanks.

If any festival, it'd be Lolla, but I doubt they'll play any of them. Green Day playing wouldn't be as bad as the crowd it would bring. Thousands and thousands of middle schoolers flooding the Polo Fields from Hot Topic.

Middle schoolers can't get parental permission to attend, so it would be Emptychella.

You don't think Bonnaroo is a possibility? I sure do, especially in recent years since they've put the likes of Metallica, Kanye, and the White Stripes up as headliners. Isn't MTV vested in Bonnaroo as a sponser or something, too, nowadays? Green Day is very much an MTV-ready band, which is why I feel like that festival will be moving more towards hugely popular alternative arena acts in the coming years.

Anyway, I'm not advocating a Green Day headlining spot at Coachella at all. If you ask me, the poster for Friday is more likely to say "No Doubt" as headliners with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Yo La Tengo underneath as subheadliners.

So it's settled then, everyone wants Green Day to headline Friday night. Awesome. Get on on it Goldenvoice.

Like someone said earlier, there are a lot worse bands than Green Day to headline. And considering the amount of bands out there right now that can actually headline a festival, it isn't that far fetched. They have always put on one of the most energetic, crowd engaging, memorable shows. Do I think they will headline Coachella? No. Lolla? Easily.

Joan Jett on Outdoor Theater - Social D on Main - Bad Religion on Outdoor Theater - Green Day - Main

And unless MTV owns FUSE, I don't see why anyone would think that MTV and Bonnaroo coincide. FUSE aired 3 days worth of recaps on their channel this summer.

There are worse acts than Paris Hilton too; for example, a man standing on the stage shooting at us with a water-gun filled with his urine while playing Paris Hilton's album, but it doesn't mean it would still be acceptable for Paris Hilton to headline.

No Green Day at Coachella.

And I hate American Idiot. What a horrible album and an even worse song. I can't believe Green Day did the senior song for my class in high school.

green day or no doubt would not be the worse thing for friday. decent good live bands and would not be a major downer. for sure both are #3 headliners. if they were considerd #1 or #2, then the whole festival would be looking not so hot. but a friday headliner i could live with.........

Green Day is a good band I saw them back in the day when they were opening for Bad Religion, Rancid, and NOFX the 39/smooth and Kerplunk days. I protested Dookie and to this day its the one album I dont really care for. I think they would be a feasible headliner but like concensus said only on friday night. They have great energy but not energy needed to be the big man at the top on Saturday or Sunday. Lets hope they are not chosen because really we need bands that have not headlined before or have been festival filler of years past.

I would not expect it. But... I didn't expect Jack Johnson either! Or Madonna. Or Prince.

It seems like Green Day is too big not to headline or sub headline, and since this would not work at Coachella (too many haters), I don't expect them there.

I usually don't go to Coachella for the headliners anyway.

I actually still think that No Doubt was planned to headline last year's Friday line-up, and may do so this year. Here is why: You know how sometimes the subheadliners kind-of-sort-of compliment the headliners for the night? Let's remember that Madness was originally on the line-up, but disappeared. My thought was that Goldenvoice wanted to give the No Doubt headlining spot a more credible, old school feel to it and have one of their biggest influences, Madness, do a set leading up to their's. Then Gwen got pregnant, No Doubt never made it onto the line-up, and subsequently Madness did not either. It's just a thought and maybe I am reading too much into those type of details.

Yep. It's almost as worthless as the Eminem debate. There are some acts who obviously don't fit at festivals like Coachella.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that No Doubt will play Coachella 2009, but I'm sure Gwen's pregnancy was a little more expected then Madness' pseudo-booking.
