I wonder if we really will see a similar change for Coachella?! Thats a solid country lineup--headliners anyway--and they cut ticket prices in half. It would certainly mean many more people could attend.

I honestly can say that I have heard some of my friends saying they are already second-guessing whether they can afford to go to Coachella this year, so I really do hope they install a similar plan. I would not get my hopes up for ticket prices 50% less, but still a good 25% off or so compared to last year would help.

Then again, the country music scene has a different demographic in terms of income / spending, and I am guessing ticket sales for Stagecoach aren't as steady as Coachella's. A younger, hip-oriented crowd like Coachella's will spend money on a music festival, even when they don't have it to begin with. Let's be honest for a second: If they aren't trust fund children, a large chunk of Coachellagoers are starving artist 20somethings with $50 in their bank account (if they even have one) who carpooled down in a van.

I just hope prices get lowered. Wasn't Coachella 08 one of the most expensive three-day tickets this year?

50% off pre-sale FTW (for 2009, I mean)

It would be great if prices were lower...keep in mind that the less they charge for tickets, the less they have to pay artists. Just sayin.

The last time I put something on layaway was back in 1979 at Gemco.

Not if they add a sponsor. or have a sponsor they already have give them more money.

YES to big presale :D :D

I also have friends that are bringing up finances as a possible reason for not attending. But this is no different from any other year :p

Thanks for the link!!

yes but if they lowered the price then there would be more people. not that it matters because the die hard fans will find a way to go regardless. But the more people the bring in the more die hard fans they get.

Does anyone know how Stagecoach sold last year in compared to the year before? With Coachella having the first non-sell-out in years, with a just-as-good-if-not-better lineup, it was already a guarantee to drop prices, but this only makes me think they'll be dropped more (like 25-50%).

Grrr... just please don't let Coachella turn into Lolla...

That would rock, since this is likely the first year I am going that will not be financed by student grant money.

i also hope that water and food decreases their prices... because they can sell tix at lower prices and guarantee the attendence and still force us to spend all of our money by selling tons of water and food and dont forget the 25 to 40 bucks tshirts.
also hope to the hotels be Conscientious and help us too.

i think we will see lower prices but more importantly id love to see the layaway plan. would make it so great to pay in like 3 installments then paying the full price at once. i think they will do the right thing. they have to if they want people to show up. its not about the tickets, its about the gas, the price to get a hotel or camp, to fly, get a rental, etc,etc.. the lower they make it or bring in a layaway plan will make it more atrtractive for people outside the region to go.. :)

Everything that we are talking about in here, about making it cheaper, and giving people time to pay for their tickets, and so on makes me believe that the lineup will be out sooner than usual. I'm thinking early January.

shut the fuck up you whiny bitch. $2 for a bottle of ice cold water is so ridiculously cheap at an event like this.

hmm....what I worry here is that if Coachella does indeed go the way of stagecoach with ticket prices and what not...does that mean Coachella will have "reserved seating"? I really really hope not...

Those Bo-Hunk Yee-Haws think it's reserved seating. Actually, it's just a big ol' corral to keep their drunken asses from goin' all rodeo during the show.

i agree....

my best guess i can come up with is a 3 installment plan(jan feb mar) or maybe they go nuts and start presales in december. i think we will get the lineup earlier. how early? i would assume 2nd week in jan but if they do go ahead with the layaway plan, maybe they go nuts again and give partial lineup in mid-dec.

from xmas time to first week of jan, hardly any news happens so they could do it before that time or after. it will be interesting.

ArcadeParade

No layaway for Coachella, reasonable presale tho. imo..

futureperfect
11-08-2008, 11:20 AM
150 Dollar presales for pre announcement orders. That would be fair. Lollapalooza does $60 presales pre announcement but the higher caliber of Coachella's operation i think $150 would be fair.

coachella doesn't have many sponsors as lollapalooza though. i think $199 would be fair price for a presale.

Actually it just might..considering that Obama inaugartion will be Jan 20th and will suck any news away from anything at the time...would be in Coachella's best interest to release the line up earlier then...

Goldenvoice would never let that happen. Paul cares way too much about the integrity of the Coachella name.

And I think Obama should announce the line-up, being that every other performer last year name dropped him.

Layaway it is, friends:

After offering a layaway option during this year's Stagecoach festival, co-producer Goldenvoice has decided to use the strategy for its flagship festival, Coachella, as well, according to Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett. "About 22 percent of the Stagecoach tickets and RV camping passes were bought on layaway."
