Shakedown Alley is sort of the main road at the Bonnaroo campsite. Its where everyone goes to buy/find/sell all their drugs. Although last year I never once had to go hunting for drugs. Everyone came to me, all I did was sit in my lawn chair in my pajama bottoms and my wallet. :D

Am I the only one in here that's a little anxious to see what "shakedown alley" has to offer this year!

Wait, since when did Shakedown Street become Shakedown Alley? WTF is going on here? Shakedown Street isn't unique to bonnaroo at all. There have been Shakedown Streets at Grateful Dead shows since the 60's. GD has a very popular song called Shakedown Street. Here's Of Montreal covering it at Langerado.

7aUq4EiLSn4

The only time I've seen it performed live was at roo 06 by Phil Lesh and Friends, it was awesome.

Haha, I just saw that Ron corrected it. I missed it, my bad. Regardless, I like how Of Montreal united the hipsters and hippies with that cover.

I think it was miSTEVEious that said acid and shrooms are only different in subtle ways. That's not true at all. Yes, they both make you trip but they're entirely and vastly different. The more you do both, the more you realize this. For me, at this point, the difference I experience between the two is so huge. It's like the difference between being drunk and doing coke, a completely different feeling, mentally and physically.

Tommy, you'll fucking LOVE acid! :)

Never sold cocaine in my life, but I'm still the fuckin' man"

Having an addiction negates any idea of being tough. Recreational use isnt the same obviously, but I'm just sayin.

Just going on the assumption of no more big adds. I did admit it looks likely that it will happen though and i'm all for it. Sometimes I just dont' like to get my hopes up.

I'm totally geeking out on Wilco today. This is an exciting year for my favorite band and seeing them at the Roo is going to be fantastic. I talk about Nels and his shredding quite a bit and for a nice example I present his solos during Handshake Drugs. There is no guitar player I enjoy watching more.

Last year, it was leaked about a week or two before set times came out that the super jam would feature Eugene Hutz and Les Claypool. Originally, the rumour was that Tom Waits would also be a special guest. A few days later it was revealed Kirk Hammet would play guitar on a few tracks and that it would be an entire set of Tom Waits covers. That is basically what happened. Eugene Hutz was on guitar and vocals, Les Claypool was on bass and vocals and Kirk Hammet came out and play 3 songs with them. Also, the drummer and violin player of Gogol Bordello provided the rest of the band.

This year, Im guessing the superjam will be a third Phish set.

The "european" clear the pit style thing has definitely been mentioned before, months ago. I'm 100% sure about that. Anyway, thank you Blinken for posting that and Sunday fucking owns IMO. This is much better than any Sunday roo has ever had. Remember, this isn't Coachella, it's an entirely different thing and they do things very differently. Sunday never has any big acts. This is four days long and over $100 cheaper than Coachella. Different.

Actually, the Superjam has only ever been officially announced once before hand, that was in 2007 with John Paul Jones, Ben Harper, and ?uestlove. It has leaked twice before, last year some of the information came out about the Waits superjam, and in 2006 some people had an inkling it would be GRAB (Benevento-Russo Duo with Mike Gordon and Trey Anastasio) but there was not really a solid leak. other than that, it has always been kept under wraps.

and it's always figured out before hand, just not announced.

Trent, Jack White and Trey in the superjam = best set of the weekend, Erykah would just be icing on the cake.

I honestly think this is the year for jack white if the dead weather gets added. and I think trey is pretty much a shoe in unless they go for something very specific again.

Nope. If it's not enough for the Sasha and Digweed ravers then it's not enough for us either. bonnaroo is awesome.

Oh yes. Phish are an absolute must see for me as well.

I was thinking about my top acts to see at Bonnaroo. They include, in no particular order:

David Byrne
Erykah Badu
Phish
NIN
Wilco (That Handshake Drugs video got me so excited)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Booker T. and the DBTs
Amadou and Miriam
Fema Kuti

And I keep forgetting Elvis Costello is on the lineup. The guy is a legend.

The audio for the Ashes of American Flags dvd is a must for anyone who likes this band. You hear Nels shred even more and sounds a zillion times better than that youtube clip. You can't really find that on any of the studio albums because Nels has only been around for the Kicking TV live in Chicago CD (early in his Wilco career) and Sky Blue Sky. SBS is sort of a boring album to most on first listen but Nels destroys on those songs live and brings this band to a whole new level of damn near headliner status.

This new album is going to be something else, I can't wait to hear what he did in the studio now that he's been fully let loose.

Ahhh. Do it if you want but I think I look terrible. Im no longer posing for any pictures on Coachella Sunday. 4 days of drugs, sun, dancing, little sleep, etc. really takes a toll on you. Surprisingly

Bonnaroo is going to be incredible. I'm getting there too, it was just difficult for us to shake out of Coachella mode. Especially after this year, this year is what I will compare every other festival to.

DAVID BYRNE!

I still can't wholly shake my PCD, but I'll get there. Just sucks being so far away from EVERYONE else. But hey, I'll live, I get to see The Prodigy with a number of folks from my Chella Crew in 2.5 weeks and then it's Roo -> P4K -> Lolla.

Not a bad summer. Just gotta get through these lonely May doldrums and soon we'll be Byrne-ing down the Roo!

I love so many of Wilco's lyrics. I'm now listening to a bootleg from april 22nd in Birmingham, Alabama. I'm convinced Nels just flips out on every single song at this point. At least that's what you said, is such a quiet and intense song and Nels just spazzes out on guitar at that end of it.

Nope. If it's not enough for the Sasha and Digweed ravers then it's not enough for us either. bonnaroo is awesome.

1. Last year's superjam was god awful, i heard les claypool was just wishing he were somewhere else. don't expect to see hutz back any time soon for the superjam...

2. 3rd phish set would rock! i bet it'll basically be that, plus a slew of special guests.

I really like the album, but I'm still skeptical about their live show. I'm with you, Fax. There are no conflicts at Sasquatch so they have the opportunity to convince me. I had an open mind when I went into listening to the album, so I'm gonna have the same open mind with the live show.

Also, I finally listened to Middle Cyclone by Neko Case last week. It's pretty damn good. It starts off kind of slow, but by the 4th song it really gets going. I like my Neko Case sans country flavor and there are plenty of songs where she just showcases her voice. I think my favorite song on the album is either "Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth" or "Polar Nettles." I enjoyed the entire thing, though, and I can't wait to see her in Albuquerque later this month.

Yep, even if it sucks i'm going to try and stick it out for the full show. It's only an hour i'm assuming so it can't be that bad. :)

Nice. Blacklisted is still my favorite and like I said yesterday John and Joey of Calexico contributed to that album. I'm not sure what my favorite track is on Middle Cyclone but I love "don't forget me" and "this tornado loves you".

I'm glad I finally get to see her again at Bonnaroo! I really despise the new Pornographers. She played with them last year at Sasquatch and I tried to watch only for her contributions but they are fairly minimal with that band like banging on a tamborine and joining in on harmonies. She really shines on her solo albums and i'm hoping she continued to improve with her live performance becaue that voice of hers is so rich and naturally beautiful.

We don't. We are all going to be so excited to see eachother we will probably all just high five eachother until the line into the fest starts at whatever strategic hour we choose to begin our caravan. Then we will arrive, set up camp and sweat for hours until the sun goes down at which point the sky will close up with clouds and the thunderstorm will start for about 9 hours straight.

It's going to be quite an event! Once we see our favorite bands after being so exhausted form the elements the shows will be that much better and appreciated and the Roo Vibe will fill all our hearts with joy and love!!

I think the dry heat is more of a sun directly on you thing. The humidity really seems to drain me and make more uncofortable because of sweat. I always have preferred the dry heat to humid heat.

That said I would choose summers in Chicago over summers in phoenix for one reason. The weather changes in Chicago. It's not 100+ for 6 straight months. You get rain and cool weather at nights in chicago. In Phoenix you have a low of 80-90's or some shit in the middle of the night all through July and August.

Midwest humidity can be brutal when you are up over 90 degrees. Almost suffocating but you don't get that for day after day usualy. You might get a week of it but then it will rain and cool off and be nice and chilly at night.

I think it's pretty equal, but the humidity FEELS a lot hotter. also chaffing is much more of an issue in the humid heat. regarding this:

SERIOUSLY THE BEST INVESTMENT I'VE EVER MADE FOR BONNAROO. god they are so good and so comfy. NO CHAFFING. Do me a favor and splurge the $20 bucks - you'll thank me profusely later. there's a bit more walking than coachella also due to there being like 8 times more campers.

anyways, i think the toll on your body is pretty equal, and the only plus i see to the humidity is that it isn't as deceptive as the dry heat. you can get a better gauge of how much water you're losing. because you lose a lot.

The wal mart is like 1 mile if my memory serves me correctly. like reaaaallly close.

How are they that non efficient that they can't get a miles worth of cars into the entrance within 7 hours? How many years have they been doing this?

For some reason I thought Deadmau5 was rumored for Bonnaroo. I would really enjoy The Presets. The problem is they almost always put dance acts late night. That's when a lot of good rock bands hit the stage, too. So even if The Presets got added, I would still likely not see them.

One of the clues was thought to be Deadmau5, I don't remember who it actually was but it was not Deadmau5.

Fuck Crystal Castles. That's that injury along with the insults already stated above. If they added a decent dance act I would go watch over a better rock band because of the rarity of such things at Roo. Gotta take those opportunities.

I think it's pretty equal, but the humidity FEELS a lot hotter. also chaffing is much more of an issue in the humid heat. regarding this:

Awesome. Do I take it you don't even need gold bond with these? I'll wear these and nothing else all weekend. Dylan gets the first sweaty man hug in these babies!

1 mile in 7 hours . . . 0.14 MPH average speed. . . wow

The line doesn't start at the Wal-Mart, but there is significantly more sitting than there is driving.

Oh seriously? That close? Well thats good.

So basically, the plan is we will all wake up at like 6am and drive in line?

I think more like we all wake up at 4:45 or 5:00 and drive in line.

Seriously. The heat, the wait in line, the amenities at the campground, etc... are really not THAT bad. Don't expect to be hanging out at a resort, but you all are vets. You know what you're getting yourselves into. :)

It takes so long because they do a thorough/time consuming check on each car going in.

After dealing with all the bullshit I was put through at Pemberton last year, Bonnaroo is gonna be a piece of cake.

I had a completely different experience with the heat. Coachella really does FEEL hotter to me. But I will co-sign your second point. The chaffing is much more of a problem at Bonnaroo. I will invest the $20. Thank you.

Yeah, they are Nazis when you're driving in....

I'm really not sure why it takes so long. But I'll honestly get really annoyed and probably snap at one of you if you're complaining about it the entire time. Just a little warning.
