The Autotone never bothered you though?

i didnt pay attention close enough.

I know it was a bad example, my bad Paul. It's just something I feel I need to joke about because I know how serious it is. It's comforting for me, you know?

paulb
11-22-2008, 12:44 AM
for sure... im diabetic, and i take that as an insult.

Sushov23
11-22-2008, 12:45 AM
Also I just read a few pages back about no KOL at Bonnaroo, well I got bad news for all the KOL haters. I'm hearing they are going on another U.S. tour April-June, and that Coachella(which I'm hearing is a lock), and Bonnaroo are possibilities.

Sushov23
11-22-2008, 12:47 AM

no insult meant by my comments Paul, it's just how I am when something is very serious. Helps cope with it, I was actually told by my doctor that I am pretty much guaranteed diabetes in my 40's, if not sooner if I don't take care of myself.

paulb
11-22-2008, 12:48 AM
take care of yourself then bro....you dont want it, trust me. But things could be worse.

I heard KOL will be in Europe in June, so no Bonnaroo...

Tim you are a cool guy and I mean no disrespect, but i'm starting to think you are way OVERRATING The Roo for the people who haven't gone like myself, you need to lay off a bit.

The only reason I'm raving about it so much is because if we get more people to go then it will be more fun for all of us. I assume about 90% or so of the regular posters here are going to Coachella anyway, so they need no convincing about going to that fest. I'm just trying to get you all to jump on the bandwagon. Not that it won't be a lot of fun with just Sbess, Tommyboy, apostle and a few others who are definitely going, but the more the merrier you know?

looks at the dates for when the europe tour starts, and when the roo is happening. People didn't bother checking for that.

if you ask me what am i doing in June...im saying going to Bonnaroo at the moment.....just need me a lineup.

For sure! If the headliners are Phish, Springsteen, The Dead and MMJ (which I have a strong feeling they will be) then it might just be me, you and Tommy. Oh well, we'll still have a blast regardless of whether we can convince all these other people to go or not.

sbessiso

I've got some solid friends who are coming along too. A couple kinda douchey but theyre part of the whole package (friends' boyfriends and stuff). Don't forget JSam!

I don't know if I would go to this Bonnaroo, the undercard would need to blow me away. I'm on a fuck you Springsteen shit because he kept skipping SD on his touring over the last two years. Fuck that PUTO!, also mr. workingclass man, charging 150-200 a ticket is fucking dumb ass shit.

Haha, I'm with you there. That's one of the reasons I would love it if he was there, I always wanted to see him on his own but could never afford it. People say the same about U2 but the difference is the boss actually makes good music.

I Don't forget JSam!

I didn't know he was for sure. I thought he was pending on the lineup like Paul. Awesome though, he's one of my favorite boardies.

sbessiso
11-22-2008, 01:13 AM
JSam Josh is MUCH closer to TN than Paul. And he has friends that swear by Bonnaroo as well, we're not the first ones to give him the lectures. I would say he's 85-95% committed, but that figure is totally out of the air

Backwater
11-22-2008, 01:16 AM
Yeah really, if you love live music and live in Iowa, there is absolutely no reason not to be there.

I'll have you all know that next year is all about Phish for me. I'll be disappointed if they aren't there but it won't be the end of the world. I'll go to Coach, Roo, and hopefully Sasquatch but other than that, for the rest of the year I'm going the way of the Phish (until I run out of money.)

Sushov23
11-22-2008, 01:16 AM
I just read in the unconfirmed thread that The Killers and Jane's are rumored headliners now, I had a feeling about that. People need to just accept that they might be the headliners.

Backwater
11-22-2008, 01:17 AM
You're talking about Coachella though right?

sbessiso
11-22-2008, 01:17 AM
Dont even talk to me about Sasquatch! I wanna go so badly. It just looks so beautiful. Thats the main reason I wanna go other than the music. I've never even been to that part of the country. No even close.

paulb
11-22-2008, 01:20 AM
so why arent you going to the Hampton Coliseum shows?

Sushov23
11-22-2008, 01:24 AM
yeah i'm talking about coachella, I also don't think radiohead will be playing Coachella either.

sbessiso
11-22-2008, 01:26 AM
Me neither. I dotn see how RH can do this South America tour then come BACK to Cali and chill then play ANOTHER major music festival. I guess its possible, but not very likely

paulb
11-22-2008, 01:26 AM
I doubt Radiohead will be there... I just REALLY hope Queen are not there... ill take The Killers over them....and thats saying something.

Backwater
11-22-2008, 01:28 AM
so why arent you going to the Hampton Coliseum shows?

... because I don't have thousands of dollars just lying around. Believe me, I did everything I could to get tickets but that's a tiny venue for a band of that popularity. Take a look at the ticket prices on ebay.

I'm still wondering why you asked me that bizarre, homosexual question though. No offense Sbess, but that was a strange question for him to randomly ask me.

sbessiso
11-22-2008, 01:28 AM
Regardless of them playing or not, i'm fucking BLASTING some killers at the campsite next year. Just for you, PaulB

He was just joking, backwater. PaulB is a keeder, he keeds around

Sushov23
11-22-2008, 01:30 AM
Right now i'm thinking Jane's, The Killers, and either Muse or The White Stripes or AC/DC(yeah curveball I know). I'm actually thinking of taking Radiohead off my pool list.

Backwater
11-22-2008, 01:35 AM
Jane's, The Killers and Muse would be the weakest coach headliners ever, and I like Jane's and Muse quite a bit. I can't think of any more likely possibilities but I'm sure there will be a surprise or two. Just look at this year, all three headliners were complete surprises that nobody saw coming. I think Outkast is still a possibility. Did you see that article someone posted in the rumors section?

Backwater
11-22-2008, 01:52 AM
The National ended right before Clutch started. Tea Leaf Green (they suck) and Rodrigo y Gabriela played at the same time as Clutch. There was also some quartet on the Somethin Else stage but I'm sure that wasn't a must see for you.

paulb
11-22-2008, 01:53 AM
Clutch are decent...saw them at Sounds of the Underground...they were def the black sheep of the lineup.

Backwater
11-22-2008, 01:55 AM
I really like their sound and their style, just straight up rugged rock and they're not afraid to experiment. Beale Street to Oblivion is a great album. They remind me of Avail, just less punk sounding.

sbessiso
11-22-2008, 01:56 AM
Ohh I see now, they were Thursday. Damn, black angels and mute math were there?? And i'm sad I missed rodrigo y gabriela. I always fail thursday night, I really need to pick up the slack next year

paulb
11-22-2008, 02:00 AM
Rodrigo y Gabriela are excellent live.... i hope to see them again one day... I believe at Lolla they did about 5 metallica covers...

sbessiso
11-22-2008, 02:01 AM
No but it was a long voyage for us on the greyhound plus the giant walk with all our gear pooped us a little. We went to see David Cross in the comedy theater and we were falling asleep on each other.

I tried sneaking into a R y G show down here a few months ago but we got caught. I have yet to see them live

This thread blows up yet again in the middle of the night. As always......

Thoughts

- First, and foremost, the headliners do not matter as much as they do at Coachella. And it's not even close. Tim speaks the 100% truth. And I probably wouldn't have believed him if I hadn't gone to Roo and experienced it for myself this year. I don't think he is overhyping anything. Bonnaroo is just more grand and a little better (I'm being nice) than Coachella. I had to accept that when I left the farm this year.

- Welcome back Sushy. Sorry about the diabetes.......better luck next time? (sorry a little black comedy). We still didn't get the official explanation, but it's good to have you back. I think Dylanja was getting bored.

- The lineup has no impact on whether or not I go. I'm there regardless of the lineup. The only thing that'll keep me away is some type of real-life emergency.

- It would be fun with just me, Tim, Salah and apostle (don't know your name). But I'd imagine the fest, especially camping and hanging before the music starts, would be great if the likes of JSam, Paul, Amy, feather and Sushy are included. And Paul, why so important that the girlfriend goes to Bonnaroo with you?

Haha well no, I'm not. And I hear ya, but that's not a music festival necessity is it? At Bonnaroo it was so muggy and dirty that I didn't even think about doing anything with my girlfriend. Backwater
11-22-2008, 07:04 PM
I agree. AC/DC, The Cure, Phish and MMJ on the lineup would make me a very happy person, and it would probably get at least a few of you undecideds out there. It has a nice balance to it, two legendary rock bands, both older but one is really old, the biggest jam band of our time, and an awesome younger, still up and coming band.

The more I think about it, the less of a problem I'd have with AC/DC. Might be a fun show to watch. I'm all about seeing The Cure, so I have no problems with that. I already told you, Tim, that I will definitely give Phish a chance. And you know how much of an MMJ freak I am.

Josh, if The Dead play Roo then let them headline over MMJ I suppose. It's funny how people are conditioned to put huge importance on who headlines. Even if MMJ doesn't headline they'll still play for at least 3 hours. Lol. It just simply does not matter.

I would be good with AC/DC. it's not something I would be specifically excited for, but they are my Roo partner's favorite band, so it would whip her into a frenzy. that would be enough to get me into it.

also, I'm with amyzzz on being excited to have spiritualized on the line up, I haven't had a chance to see them at any of the myriad of places they have appeared. it's a good sign for the overall feel of the line up as well.

I think Indio is more populated than Manchester and it's closer to residential areas. The Manchester residents don't like Bonnaroo time....or so I've heard. So I don't care if MMJ doesn't headline. I might just prefer they played an epic late-night set on Which Stage like they did this year.

I'm working on a realistic Tom-A-Roo. When I have energy I'll finish and post.

That's the beauty of being in the middle of nowhere, no curfew and the bands can just play for hours on end into the early morning (Sasha and Digweed.) Either Indio is much more populated than Manchester or the Manchester residents just don't care about noise but having no curfew makes it infinitely better.

I'm going down to Anaheim to see Buckethead, later.

Alright I'm posting Tom-A-Roo 2009 Version 2.0. This is what I think is a realistic list filled with what I want, but also what I think will happen.

Tom-A-Roo 2009

My Morning Jacket - They would be #1 on my must see list and I'm almost certain they'll be there)

The Cure - I would be pretty excited to see them. Tim, you heard Salah, work your Bonnaroo voodoo.

Phish - I'll give them a shot

Nine Inch Nails - The Roo's hard rock band next year

Dave Chappelle - Probably least likely out of anything I'm going to list. This is a main stage act.

Muse - Sorry Salah but I'm calling it right now. They would have to play after the sun went down I would guess.

The Allman Brothers Band - To make up for this year

STS9 - I would be really excited to see this

The Black Keys - I just have a gut feeling about this. Maybe I'll see them play before MMJ again (just had to mention that. I was due for it).

Ghostland Observatory - I think they'll be invited back after this year's awesome late-night performance.

John Mayer - The Jack Johnson if this year. Actually a very talented guitar player.

CSS - Maybe a late-night act

Pelican - Solid all-instrumental group. Would impress at the Roo

Explosions In The Sky - See above.

TV On The Radio - Lots of buzz. Personally, I would enjoy this

Common - Completely fits and I think he's played before

Brother Ali - Fits the type of hip-hop Roo likes to have

Elbow - Another buzz band that will be there kinda like Vampire Weekend

Michael Franti & Spearhead - Would be a fun show in the early evening on the What or Which Stage.

Okkervil River - I have mixed feelings about them, but this is just a weird hunch.

The Ultimate Comedy Tent Featuring:
LEWIS BLACK, BRIAN REGAN, JIM GAFFIGAN, ZACH GALIFIANAKIS, NICK SWARDSON, DANIEL TOSH, DEMETRI MARTIN, MICHAEL SHOWALTER, TODD BARRY, & TED ALEXANDRO

Its a bit TOO stacked, and would probably be Roo's biggest selling yet (if the drowsy economy didn't have to interfere), but I donno... seems possible enough, minus a couple big names.

My two late night Which Stages are Kings of Leon (sorry, but, it must be done) and of course The Allman Bros. (4 hour set for a 40 year anniversary!)

But then, there also MUST be this loveliness in The Other Tent:
Black Mountain (12-1) to Comets on Fire (1:15 - 2:45) to Acid Mothers Temple (3-5)

I would go insane. I am just thinking about it.

Very nice (pancakes yours isn't bad either.) All of your headliners are possible and I would be excited to see all of them. The Dead is pretty much a lock though, just warning you. As unlikely as it is, nice call on Dave Chappelle. Your right that John Mayer is a great guitarist but he brings out all the teenagers and bros. CSS, Pelican, and EITS would all be great. None of them have played yet. Common played late night in 06, I was watching the epic MMJ set at the same time but I heard he was great. Please no Franti, I can't get away from that fucker. Brother Ali is always welcome. Elbow is soooo much better than Vampire Weekend. I would love it if they were there too.

BRMC are so sadly underrated. Oh well. They really lack live so I guess that works itself out.

Black Mountain.... :( my luck with seeing them has been very depressing.

I would have put The Dead in mine, but, it didn't work out. Too stacked. So I went with Weir&Ratdog instead.
I really wasn't thinking of them as a full on "lock" though. What makes you say this? Kinda got me excited actually...

Further thoughts.... I can't really see both NIN and The Cure playing the same year. Its just way too dark. I would love either. In fact, I would love seeing both. But it does not seem like something to put your money on. Bonnaroo is just such a happy joyful place! There's no time to be depressed at the Roo.

I saw part of Black Mountain at Pemberton. They weren't amazing, but they sure sounded great. I do want to see a full set of theirs someday. I had leave them early at Pemberton for the Flaming Lips.

Speaking of... they weren't at the Roo 08... could 09 be likely? How many times have they played Bonnaroo?

How many times have they played Bonnaroo?

They've never played. They have only been around since 2006. So I got my money on them coming around this year, it seems like a perfect Thursday nighter.

I had to go home early from Coach Sunday night, (I would have missed Roger for all of Black Mtn. + a spot up front), then I was going to see them at OSL but the bus situation screwed me over and ended up showing up to the fest 1 1/2 hours late, so I caught their last song as I was going through the security line because thankfully the stage was like 100 feet away from the line... as I got in I ran to the front but, off they went. And that's it. :(

They don't have a new album in the works do they? That would change things...

They're touring next year and judging by roo's lineup history, they're a definite lock, even moreso than Phish. Oh and String Cheese Incident is 100% impossible because they broke up for good, just last year. I see that you're not really up on the jambands but that's cool, hardly anyone on this board is, and at least you express interest in them.

Further thoughts.... I can't really see both NIN and The Cure playing the same year. Its just way too dark. I would love either. In fact, I would love seeing both. That's exactly what I've been saying! If you back about 20 pages or so, I said just the same thing, in my own words.

Speaking of... they weren't at the Roo 08... could 09 be likely? How many times have they played Bonnaroo?

And really? The Flaming Lips have only played one Bonnaroo?

Actually, turns out they played 03, the 2nd year, as well... just looked it up.

But yeah now that does kind of relegate them to the frame of possibility. I just don't know what they would do this year though. Since 2007 was their big year, with the late night set and all... what do they move on to? They can't do another late night, because that's way repetitive, and I don't know if they'd be great playing the What Stage before one of the night's headliners... they probably wouldn't have the full set up in that case... and I'm pretty sure they're not big enough to close the What Stage Sunday. Maybe that though? I just see The Dead or WSP doing that...

rage patton
11-23-2008, 12:25 AM

That and NIN subheadlined Lolla 08. Also, NINs current tour isn't selling very well. It is a sad fact that NIN are nowhere near as big as the used. As strange as it is to think... they are now one of the acts who could either be headliner or subheadliner.

That's a real bummer, I enjoyed them. Yeah my knowledge of jam bands is squat. Only from major festival lineups and whatnot. I really love them when I see them, (most of em) but when I download their albums I get really bored with them. Live albums too, which is weird. (If The Allmans are an jam band that's a huge exception). Only for the live setting I guess.

I just see The Dead or WSP doing that...

The Dead are closing out Bonnaroo 09 Sunday night on the What Stage. I'd be willing to bet lots of money on that, and it will be fantastic. Phil Lesh and Friends closing out 06 was so perfect. Radiohead blew our minds on Saturday, then on Sunday night as people were packing up their things to return to civilization, they eased us back into the real world with a perfect mix of new Phil songs and Grateful Dead classics. It was exactly what everyone needed. That was the first time I ever heard Shakedown Street live and it was such a treat. Closing with Box of Rain (as it was raining) was a beautiful moment.

11-23-2008, 12:43 AM
Yep! Mickey and Billy are on board my friend! Now that Vince died RIP, I assume Tom will play keyboard, and I guess Keith and Donna will be back but I'm not positive. Who really cares about them that much though? Phil, Bobby, Mick, and Billy are all playing together again and that's what's really important.

Yeah, but they're best suited for late night with their light spectacle, just like how the Dead is best suited for closing a fest out with their warm, homey vibes. I've seen MMJ in the daytime twice and both times I thought, "this just isn't right." I'm not counting Coachella this year because that wasn't even a MMJ set, that was like a kroq preview of what a real MMJ set might sort of be like.

Okay OT but related to Muse (since Muse at Bonnaroo is unrealistic now) ...

To Tommyboy & fellow Muse fans only,

Muse are now responding to the Top 30 Questions by fans in their official message board. Anyway, it sounds like LP5 is unlikely to be ready by summer.

Question 5
When the new album will be ready approximately?

Chris: It would be nice to have the album out in the second half of next year but we have not set ourselves any targets. It is more important for us to make the best album we have made to date and if that means it comes out in 2010 then we don’t mind. Hopefully it will be sooner though.

Matt's answer to question 23 already made my day.

Question 23
Which song was the longest or the hardest to compose?

Matt: There is a new song in 3 parts, more of a symphony than a song which I have been working on sporadically for many years. As a large percentage of the composition is orchestral I have never wanted to collaborate with a string arranger as they may make it 'theirs'. So I have been arranging the orchestral elements myself which is taking a long time due to my inexperience with large scale scoring. It should hopefully make the next album as the final 3 tracks.

Question 9
Tell us a song that you really love, but you think is underrated by the fans.

Chris: I really liked Escape from the first album. It's not a track that we ever really played much live and not a track that I've ever heard anyone say it was their favourite. Shame.

Question 30

Was the Time is Running Out 'dance' back to the microphone that Matt did (in perfect time!) at Glastonbury prepared or spur of the moment?

Matt: It was spur of the moment due to a shiny stage surface and some shoes I had on which had no grip. When I first ran on stage I realised I was sliding all over the place and was worried I would slip over, so ended up using it to do some cheap Michael Jackson moves.

*Yeah Muse hater Salah, they ripped off MJ on that one! lulz I got my early UMF tix yesterday. It's like >$140 including fucking ridiculous charges +ups shipping @ultramusicfestival.com*

In terms of people in attendance, I certainly feel like I'm surrounded by hippies, but in terms of bands on the lineup it definitely is not a hippie fest. Ken needs to look at the lineup from this year!

And so I think the Flips are definitely unlikely. Unless they get them to play before the headliner, which would be super lame, they have no other time slot to play. So I don't see it happening unfortunately. Coachella, on the other hand, feels in the frame of possibility...

That's the beauty of being in the middle of nowhere, no curfew and the bands can just play for hours on end into the early morning (Sasha and Digweed.) Either Indio is much more populated than Manchester or the Manchester residents just don't care about noise but having no curfew makes it infinitely better.

I'm going down to Anaheim to see Buckethead, later.

i know when we drove into the roo from the town of manchester, thru that little residental area really close to the entrance, people would just sit in chairs on their porches and wave to us, offer us something to drink (usually at a cheap price) and seemed to be resigned to the situation or didnt mind a bit ... having lived in a small tennessee town for years, most, not all of course, are pretty friendly, more then say So Kali (pick a city) ....i took my 2nd wife on our first date, (ELO), just a few miles from there :) cr****

My attempt at photojournalism for this year's Bonnaroo:

I would think the pictures & accompanying descriptions might actually just sell themselves. (Keep in mind: I was also alone the whole weekend, save for occasions when I got to know the people next to me at bands. Most people do not go it alone like I did. And thus have more to tell)

I flew to Nashville this year, but my sister's friends who I camped with did it. (From San Diego). Amazingly they did the whole drive in two days flat, I guess they literally never stopped...

Obviously it was more expensive then than it would be now, but even then they said it was worth it. So I think now more so. I plan to do it this year. Yeah, I need to do some sacrifices too. My brother's supposed training next month in Switzerland has been pushed back to January. Then in the next few weeks am going back and forth to Northeast to spend the holiday season (+ hopefully, weather permitting or if air travel/road conditions are good ... to see Franz Ferdinand, Duran Duran and Oasis).

ugh I'm gonna be in Europe during Obama's inauguration. Just before elections, I sent requests/e-mailed our republican lol Senators and House of Repreresentatives for tickets.

Anyway, I'm actually hoping that Coachella will suck for my taste. For sure it's going to be awesome for many of you but am really praying that none of my top favorites will make it in the bill.

It's looking like no Coachella, no Glasto, no Fuji (no festivals outside of FL?) in 2009 for me. I can't afford it. I may have to sell everything I have if their lineups turn out to be mind blowing.

Anyway, UMF is fo sho (100% regardless). Langerado is maybe/it depends (less than 50%). Bonnaroo - depends on lineup (I'd say unlikely now).

Why do you say Muse at Bonnaroo is unrealistic now? I didn't see where they said they aren't playing shows or festivals. With recording the new album I guess a tour is unlikely, but why would Bonnaroo be unrealistic?

And those videos were great. I'm fully convinced that Salah would have a blast at a Muse show. And Matt does some random things on stage. At Vegoose there was a plane flying around and he used his guitar to reflect light onto the plane. It was kinda funny and I probably didn't describe it real well. :)

Historically, when they say they are taking their time / they don't set target/ETA dates - they really meant it. Few weeks ago Dom mentioned none of the tracks have lyrics yet. Ooh well, maybe they don't need it since few of them are "symphonic monsters" or classical instrumentals. I don't see them finishing/releasing that album before summer. If they do finish it by spring or summer, it's more likely they will do touring first in Europe and most likely headline Glastonbury then T In The Park late next year.

I went and checked the headliner poll in inforoo (how influential is inforoo message board?) -- The Cure got 1 vote as of last night. Muse not even listed. I don't think Muse will appear in US festival to promote their next album where their name will be near the bottom of poster. *They were so desperate last year though that they let themselves opened for MCR so I could be totally wrong heheh*

Muse @ Bonnaroo 2010 (at best sub-headliner) / Muse @ Coachella 2010 (headliner). I'm calling it now.

Nah, I think you're right. But you bring up a good point that it might be more instrumental than past albums. They've always said they wanted to make an album with a classical feel and this is probably the one. I think they're really striving to be popular in the U.S. and they've never played Bonnaroo. I just wouldn't be surprised, that's all. And if they don't headline, they're name won't be on the bottom of the poster. 2nd or 3rd line at worst.

You're welcome. Here's one of the many, many helpful posts I'm made in this thread that you didn't even bother to just go back and find.

I remember earlier in this thread people who have never been there were asking what there is to do at Bonnaroo.

Well there's all of these stages of music:

What Stage (the mainstage)
Which Stage (equivalent to the outdoor theater)
This Tent
That Tent
The Other Tent
The Somethin' Else stage
Sonic Stage
Solar Stage

In Centeroo you'll also find:

The Comedy Theatre
Arcade Discoteque
Blue Room Cafe
Sonic Village
The Microbrew Tent
Karaoke Bay
Silent Disco
The Cinema Tent
Troo Music Lounge

... and that's all just inside Centeroo. There's plenty of other stuff going on outside of Centeroo like shakedown street (where I usually spend a good deal of time) and all of the art installations in the different camps and everything. Sbess, you were wondering where the dance club with the awesome lights on the floor is, well it's in the Arcade Discoteque which is near the Ferris Wheel. The floor is comprised of white blocks that are touch sensitive so they light up when you step on them and change color and speed depending on how you're dancing, it's really cool. The one thing I wish they would do is dig a lake so that we have someplace to cool off, but the mushroom fountain is fine. They have so much more to offer than Coachella that it's ridiculous.

I need to slow down posting in here. I'm becoming like the supre of this thread.

Any suggestions, tips, reasons why would be much appreciated!!

Hahaha! Awesome.

I won't disappear. That's just kinda annoying when some random dude pops into this thread and basically says, "summarize everything you said in the pasy 60 pages for me, because I'm too lazy to do it myself."

Thanks. Helpful.

Some other things that kick Coachella's ass:

-Not-very-hot weather! Occasionally it rains! (which is better than it sounds)
-Super long set times! 2-4 hours for headliners and others! 1 1/2 hours for most everyone else
-Late night sets! The very best part of Bonnaroo. Sets go past midnight all the way past sunrise (and even later)!
-Camping that's actually really fun!
-Bands of all sorts of genres! (consult past lineups for yourself)
-Really happy friendly people! (Okay, Coachella's got em too :))

That's it for now, stick around for more...

I'm already sold. And yeah, I guess I was too lazy to read through 60 pages.

It almost sounds like there is too much to do, that you could never experience everything they have to offer at just one Bonnaroo.

Is there an age limit on camping, or does it not matter since you just camp by your car? (That's what I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong).

This year right before BB King, my friends and I sat and chilled. I pack a bowl and pass it around, including to the two guys (strangers) sitting behind us, in return they whip out a sheet of acid and rip of a huge piece for each of us. Free of charge. Thats Bonnaroo.

O RLY?!?!?!?!

Hmmmm, the 'Roo just got a whole lot more appealing in my eyes.

There are three dvd's, one for each of '02, '03, and '04. each have performances and documentary stuff, I would probably go for '04 because it's in the more modern Roo era.

I have never been to bonaroo. There is just not a high enough percentage of indie bands to warrant me taking the trip. For the cost of travel, I would prefer to go to one of the British festivals like Leeds, V2 or Glastonbury. I am not denying there are good bands at Bonaroo nor am I denying that it is a fun experience. I just have trouble showing appreciation for a festival that would have Metallica as a headliner.

Again with the emphasis on the headliner. Haha. And, for the record, Metallica was an awesome headliner. But one of the "non-headliners", MMJ, played a near 4-hour set right after Metallica finished theirs. It was from about midnight until 4:00. That's the Roo for ya.

Yeah I don't know if those would really be good representations of what its like now. But I wouldn't know because I haven't seen them. Its just that, even 2004, those were their "hippie jam band festival" days, and both the lineups and the crowd that came for them are pretty different than they are now. Not sure about everything else, i.e. the other attractions of Roo.

There is a 2008 DVD (that I have ordered) that should be coming in the mail within a month. That's your best bet. Its the first they've done since '04. Don't know how you could access it though... unless someone knows how to put it on the internet?

Yeah, try to get your hands on the 2008 DVD. It might be a lot of coverage from Fuse, but you never know. If I can figure out how to copy the DVD, I might send it to whoever doesn't have it (when I get it of course). I'm not sure if you remember, but I posted some time ago on how I thought I was buying that 2008 DVD. I mean I was so sure I did but I ended up getting a parking pass instead. A parking pass that they never even sent to me. I dont even understand why a parking pass would be necessary.

I'm sure the 2008 DVD will be fantastic performance wise, but we don't know if it will have any documentary type content on it. As he was asking for a DVD like Coachella that would give the feel of the festival and not necessarily the performances, I recommended '04 because, well, we DO know it has docu stuff on it.

I just want the new DVD to get here. Or at least to know what's on it, Sigur Ros ftw

Not necessarily. Myself and the group I went with in 04
weren't "hippies" and we didn't feel out of place or anything at all. I guess it's a more diverse crowd with the variety in the lineup these days but it was never 100% Hippy, there was always plenty of regular people in the audience. Wilco, David Byrne, Camper Van Beethoven, and Dave Matthews Band played that year - all without any hippies in their fanbases.

Sbess, you probably accidentally bought a RV parking pass because you do need to buy those seperately. I also want to see the 08 dvd.

Alas, the Kenado has subsided.

Didn't you read that thread?!?! Oh man, you need to go back and read it. It was about a week ago and it was hilarious. The irony is that it was Sbess who was ripping on her the most, but it's cool because she totally had it coming to her. It actually started in the "check your kid's homework thread" then moved into the other one in the rumors section. She went on a hipster tirade, bashing all of these great but popular bands just because they're not pitchfork approved and not underground enough for her or something. It was hilarious because nobody agreed with her besides one or two newbies who had under 100 posts. It was like the entire board vs. kitt kat. Haha, good times.

It was in the "Say Something About The Poster Above You" thread. It turned into a civil war in there. I had some things to say. I got tired of all of the old school board members constantly complaining about every post and every thread and not contributing anything themselves. Fun day on the boards.

Backwater
11-24-2008, 07:06 PM
LOL, I didn't even know about that one. There are several threads that just suddenly turn into a "Let's all rip on kitt kat" thread. Everytime she has it completely coming to her though. It's also easier to rip on her and not feel bad because she's so attractive so at least she has that going for her. If she was some poor little ugly girl then people would feel guilty about it, but nope. My favorite quote is, "Soon the Hispanic population in this country will become the majority." Considering how I grew up in the midwest, that is easily one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in my life.
