Just off the top of my head:

Dillinger Escape Plan
The Aggrolites
Drop The Lime
Liars
His dislike of Mogwai

Why you making me bash Ragey? I like the guy. C'mon, Faxy.

Woh woh woh. Hold on. I don't really like Dillenger Escape Plan. I said that multiple times. I just think they seem like a fun live band. Plus, them being added to Bonnaroo means we get DEP + NIN playing Wish. Also, I am not a HUGE fan od Drop The Lime. I just like some of his stuff and he seems like he will be fun to check out on Saturday.

As for The Aggrolites, I fucking love those guys. So much fun live. Nothing but good times and positive energy. When I saw them at Bumbershoot 07, they turned the most lame and dead crowd into a giant dance party. It was awesome. In fact, the crowd got so into them... they were let back onstage to do an encore because the crowd wouldn't shut up. So they played an extra 10 minutes and did a medely of songs that included songs from The Clash, Toots, The Specials and more. Fucking. Awesome. My number 2 band for Friday.

That's what happened with me and Widespread Panic! Seriously! Well okay more like 90 degrees.

Before I was like "meh, the Allman Brothers replacement, they sound like shit but I might as well sit on the grass and listen to close out the weekend" and then I saw them and it was like WOAH. This band is not fooling around.

You didn't like them at Bumbershoot?

Just as I said, they seemed more like a cover band than anything else, and unless someone is billed as a cover band, i'm not expected a set of other bands' music. I didn't find them very entertaining, and was really surprised how big the crowd was for them.

I was making a list of youtube videos of coachella bands for my friend to listen to as preparation, and I put Turbonegro on the bottom of the Saturday section as a goofy exclamation point. Then I searched through the youtubes...

If you get there that late on Thursday, you won't have a choice camping spot, but on the positive side, you won't have to wait in traffic nearly as long, and might just be able to drive right in. And I'm sure there are places to rent camping gear in Nashville.

Those of you who are lucky enough to go to Bonnaroo this year are in for a real treat as I'm sure you know. Don't forget to bring earplugs and something to help you get some sleep. Melatonin and Tylenol PM was my nightly thing. Once the sun comes up it's really hard to sleep in and you definitely need a little recharge after those late nights. I heard NIN is getting a very spacial late night time slot. Trent is going to burn that fucking stage down. You guys are so lucky. To the Phish doubters that have never seen them live don't make the mistake of missing their shows. If you have seen them and still don't get it, I don't know what to tell you. The energy they will bring will blow you away. My first Phish show was on shrooms and they didn't even seem like the same band I'd heard my roommate listen to over and over. They are masters of live performance regardless of your musical preferences. Don't dismiss them as a jam band. My advice is to lose yourself completely in the experience, pace yourself on Thursday night and Friday day, then go fucking nuts the rest of the weekend. It is one wild ride. I really wish I was going. Have fun.

Thank you for the well wishes and it's definitely gonna be a good time. I just wish I could read a review of Phish's live show without the person saying how the drugs enhanced the experience. I'm sure their show is good on shrooms. Everything is awesome on shrooms (except listening to music on my headphones because I thought I would be transported to another dimension).

Tommy try and find the New York Times review of the last Coventry shows. Or the more recent ones about the Hampton shows, although that one isn't so focused on their music but their reunion.

Tommy, we are going to be so fucked up on mushrooms the music and lights are going to be great............for about a half an hour ...............before we become pre occupied with finding out how the giant circular brightness in the sky is going to save civilization and why the "others" chose the Bonnaroo population to establish the first new civilization.

No one said they were "good music", much like ICP they entertain. I kid. Trey is a really good guitarist from what I have seen. It's non offensive jammy music that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy or something.

Drugs.

chiapet
03-19-2009, 08:25 AM
I'm not trying to knock them, I just agree that all the reviews/comments I'm hearing on them mention drugs or the person commenting has acknowledged they were out of their head. I'm not arguing against drugs complimenting music, but if you have to have the former to enjoy the latter, that's not good music.

Btw, DeVotchKa was unbelievable last night. Perfect crowd, hardly any people there, brilliant sound. They didn't have a piano, so everything was strings/accordion-driven. Resulted in a great setlist (was able to get the drummer's handwritten one, pretty cool).

Across town, there was a Nickelback show, apparently. The shows must have ended around the same time, as we got jammed in the parking ramp for like an hour waiting on all the drunk cougars and their kids to get outta there. ::shudder::

Mr. D. I am good. In fact I am ecstatic! (not literally or anything). I had a miserable day at work which I turned around by making a run to various craft, art, hardware, etc stores for various materials and sundries and am contemplating enormous coachella related project parts that are all over my living room now.

When something catches my interest I get a bit uhhh crazy and obsessed about it :D :D

loca.... my friends assure me that a cougar is AT LEAST 40, probably more like 50. And it really only matters if you LOOK that old.

So there is rumor floating around the interwebs right now that we will get additions tonight, and it will be 40 acts including another headliner level act. I don't really buy it considering the source is a random lurker on so Phish board, but I thought I would post it anyways.

I'm kind of anxious about how things will be. I'm going all 3 days to coach, but Jacob is going only Saturday and is bringing his sister and her husband, so I'm limited in what I can do and in what I can partake in, if that makes sense. ugh. I don't know if I should insist on getting a camping pass and hanging out for fear that it might look suspicious to his sister who is decidedly anti-drugs.

i think i'd have trouble hanging out at a festival with someone who was really anti-drug. i don't partake myself, but that's a stance that just is not going to lead to enjoyment of the environment at all. the only time i've gotten pissed off w/ drugs + music venues is like early 90s grungy places that had people shooting up in the bathrooms. what's a little pot and acid?

I'll admit there is a certain attraction sometimes in the arrogance, but it's definitely NOT in trying to bring out a sweet side, but more having him and then letting him know he's not so much after all. I thiiiiiink what it is, is that most of the arrogant guys I know are insecure. It's not coming from confidence at all. I get a whiff of that fear, and I'm claws out, ready to pounce. I think seeing the duration of ONE Phish show would feel like a million.

Man, I need to hang up the phone and go to bed, but I am not at all tired right now. I'm going to be miserable when I get up for work. I really wish my job didn't have to be a 9-5 or 8-5 or whatever sort of situation.

loca, that sounds like my neighbor's situation. I'm watching him trip repeatedly over the same pot (planter, I mean). He just did it for the sixth time. The look on his face has been utter surprise *each* time.

Ahem...11:30.

It's the best night to go out here. Two for one drink specials. But since it's spring break it might be dead anyway.

I guess I wanted to be social. These wacky WWW's aren't doing it.

locachica73

I forgot you don't do daylight savings. I hate when my friends drag me out to bars after midnight, here they close at 2, so last call is 1:30 at the latest. I get annoyed having to trek to a bar for 2 or 3 drinks when I could be in my pajamas.

Now if they would come to MY neighborhood, we could go have those drinks in my pajamas. Well, I could. They'd need their own pajamas.

Yeah, bars close out here at 2 as well. I hate starting this late..but I think i'm gonna go play some shuffleboard and drink whiskey.

I'm sure you've heard, but what does everyone think about Lolla headliners? Depeche Mode, Beasties, and Janes?

I'm fairly certain I'm going to Lollapalooza, actually.

Actually, it's about 11 teams throughout the valley all within 30 minutes. Off the top of my head.

Angels (the closest to me, less than 2 miles)
Oakland A's
LA Dodgers
SF Giants
Seattle Mariners
San Deigo Padres
Kansas City Royals
Milwaukee Brewers
Texas Rangers
Chicago Cubs

Down in Tucson we have the AZ Dimondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

Ah cool. even the indians are in AZ now? For some reason I thought they were in FL (maybe they used to be) but I haven't paid much attention to baseball since moving to CA.

People are REALLY uninterested in sports here in SF proper -- it's different once you get outside of the city. I should have gotten out to some Giants games to see my boy Omar play.

Amazingly too, I haven't taken up football out here -- have only been to one game, when the browns played the raiders out here, and quite honestly I remember little of it (my fault entirely, have I mentioned my Bloody Marys?) except feeling like we might get our asses kicked by some raiders fans.
