yeah...I've been at a chems dj set...nowhere near as fun or good as their live sets. I will probably check out Fleet Foxes and Band of horse but I am not stoked about it.

Both Fleet Foxes and band of horses are a little mellow. I like Fleet foxes a lot but I'm not sure I'd be able to watch them at mid-afternoon sun on a stage... it will depend how hot it is, since I'm a wimpy northern californian. :)

Band of Horses are really really good live though. They're one of those bands that I didn't think too much of when I heard a few recorded tunes, but accidentally happened upon their set and was impressed. Just like MMJ in that sense for me. I am a little bored listening to the albums but will definitely want to see them.

TommyboyUNM

Like I said, their recorded stuff didn't do much for me. But live, they are most certainly awesome. Who knows though, maybe you will like the recorded stuff too.

I've only heard a few songs of their recorded stuff, but they were awful when I saw them open for Radiohead. I know I'm not the only one who felt this way.

Do you like Husker Du at all? (how can you not?) Bob Mould Band plays multiple Husker songs in their set, makes it more than worth it for me to see them. Also, Thievery Corp. Also, Blitzen Trapper.

And no matter how shitty TMV is now, I will always have to let cedric and omar off the hook for what they did on relationship of command...

I guess I should check my other computer and figure out what album I listened to.

I listened to "Garden Ruin" first and thought it was pretty average. Then I saw them live and they blew me away. After that, I listened to "Carried To Dust" and loved it. I would start with "Carried To Dust." They are so damn good and fun in concert, I urge you to go see them with me Chia. That's if nobody you really wanna see conflicts with them.

Bands I want to see in no real kind of order: band of horses, tv on the radio, fleet foxes, superchunk, thievery corp, bob mould band, hercules and love affair, glasvegas, chemical brothers, bloody beetroots, blitzen trapper, turbonegro, gang gang dance, atmosphere, mstrkrft

Hey Tommy, have we told you to check out Gang Gang Dance, yet? I'm sure Mark must have, but I normally don't listen to Mark ( :D ). I'm glad he kept mentioning them because when I listened to them more I *really* like them.

Check out this song:

For those of you have heard no Late of the Pier, I really like this song:

These are some of the Friendly Fires songs I like:
http://blip.fm/profile/xiuh/blip/4390146

And I am ALL OVER Buraka som Sistema:

Cloud Cult:

As you can see, I'm hyping blip.fm :P I have been trying to add a few tracks here and there to get friends excited about coachella. I'll try to add some more (it's a little limited by what can be found on public domain). I'm thinking of making an 8tracks play list for each day.

Theres nothing I wanna see on Saturday other than the killers and maybe Henry Rollins. :-/

As much as I should you dissuade you not to do this... I actually think this should be a good thing for you. Isn't that great the way it's set up for you to camp out all day to be front row for your favorite band?

I'd always wished I could do it at these festivals but there's always too many bands playing the other stages that I can't miss... I did at Coachella 07 for Rage, but I had to leave because of the crazy crowd. But I'd have to imagine the crowd for The Killers will very mellow.

So in short, stay in the dark! I think ignorance is bliss on this one Salah.

chiapet
03-16-2009, 02:35 PM
I don't think I could do the camping out all day thing unless I had like 3-4 must see bands on the same stage. It's just not worth it for me. I don't need to (and don't really LIKE to) be in front of the crowd for the headlining sets. Being smashed up against people in a small club is fine with me, I will go right to the front and dance my ass off. But with 50K people behind me, I get claustrophobic. Besides, I can never just stand there and wait it out for like 4 or 5 hours. I need more water or gatorade or have to go to the restroom. It irritates me that I'm NOT able to just stay put, as some days I don't leave my desk at all in like 5-6 hours.

Yea, I just feel like I'm contributing to an inordinate amount of Coachella talk. But I guess quite a lot of us are going to both. PTM is definitely a good recommendation. Pppppttttt let's just say I'm more openminded than you are. :P

We might actually be friends at some point as long as you can keep from slandering my favorite bands. Maybe I should write out a list so you know which topics to avoid. If someone speaks against those which I'm most loyal to, especially if I've had a drink or three, I tend to get in their face and can resort to the sort of verbal cruelty that only women can come up with or get away with.

Tommy.

Here is how it usually goes with me + guys in music conversations. At first, they disagree with me and dismiss everything I like and tell me I have poor taste in music. And I tear them down repeatedly, publicly, and bust their balls so frequently and thoroughly that they don't WANT to agree with me on music anymore. Then, they start to realize that we actually do like mostly the same music, and that the exceptions to this are bands that are not actually stellar or incredibly talented, but that we each just hold in high regard for more esoteric reasons.

It is at that point, that the boys find themselves claiming to like, say, Justin Timberlake or defending more recent Metallica, just in order to have a way to disagree with me.

pancakespancakes
03-16-2009, 06:38 PM
TNT is one of my favorite albums of all time Tommy. Take that for what you will ;)

No but seriously, you would never find that album to "difficult" or "disjointed" or anything, you might actually really like it. The complaint people always give Tortoise (and actually, Stereolab as well) is that they're too boring. Not really in an elevator-music kind of way the way Phish is... they're just very unassuming. They don't really reach-out-and-grab-you.

But it's nice. Very serene music. I think you might kinda enjoy it.

pancakes, the back story on this is that I was whining to Tommy to listen to Tortoise, because they are on the bill for Pitchfork Festival and he said the lineup was crap. I told him to check out Millions Now Living... because I really like that album. You stepped in and said some people consider Tortoise elevator music. Later, I was thinking of how it's been so long since I've listened to Tortoise, and listened to that album. And. Uhm. It's elevator music. It really is. I mean that in the most non-judgmental way but it is. So I changed my recommendation to TNT, which is slightly less elevator-y.

And yes, gonshman, I am a girl. (???????)

Yes, Millions Now Living does have some very strong elevatory-qualities. For sure, I can see why I said it. It's different from Phish though. At least, it's a completely different vibe. But Glass Museum and I think parts of Djed have some very strong elevatorish sounds and I'm sure Tommy would find those songs dreary.

TNT is very different though in my opinion. It's definitely my favorite Tortoise album. It's very mellow and jazzy but simultatenously very experimental and forward-thinking. Perfect balance really. And I think it can be universally enjoyed by all who hear it...

No room for you inside my house I need to be alone

Dont waste your words I dont need anything from you
I dont care where youve been or what you plan to do

Turn turn, I wish youd learn
Theres a time and place for everything Ive got to get it through
Cut loose, youre no use
I couldnt stand another second in your company

Dont waste your words I dont need anything from you
I dont care where youve been or what you plan to do

Stone me, why cant you see
Youre a no-one nowhere washed up baby whod look better dead

Your tongue is far too long

Dont waste your words I dont need anything from you

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions, young one. While I think you're probably right on this, you never fucking know. JSam and I dealt with some awfully mean and pushy dikes last year during Tegan & Sara (The Raconteurs were playing right after)

Salah - http://coachella.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1087080&postcount=16034

Most of those are not Saturday bands though.

Marco, that is definitely one of my fav songs of theirs. The whole first album is great. I was going to dig up some videos or song links once I'm off calls. From that album, my favorite is I Wanna Be Adored. <3

From the first album, songs I'd suggest checking out: I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drum, Elephant Stone, Waterfall, Sugar Spun Sister, Made of Stone, Shoot you Down, I Am the Resurrection (which you quoted), and Fools Gold (on the US version of the album).

Though a better option would be just to obtain "the complete stone roses" which is a compilation of their singles plus a few of the better b-sides.

I must dig up some of the crazier fools' gold mixes.

Marco, I wasn't shaking my head at the attempted rape scenario, just at the octopus "hands" thing. Octopuses don't have hands, man, so... let's not even speculate on what you were feeling there.

Also, if you're stunning, I require a picture for validation.

Josh... no no no to of montreal during the day. No. How will we all dance like we should dance for of montreal if it's daylight?

I disagree with the Of Montreal comment. A party like that is what late-night is all about.

Alright well I guess I just don't know till I have experienced it. Like I said it's hard to determine the feeling of these shows until you actually attend them yourself...

pancakes, of Montreal *requires* dancing. Constant dancing. I saw them at Coachella and while I love them it was not so great. Crowd wasn't really into it.

Plus Kevin wears some complicated costumes sometimes, that are warm, and it doesn't go over as well in the daytime heat because he gets sluggish in them.
