like i said, that is a subdued set.

there is/are not:
- 3+ costume changes in a single song
- sodomy heavy porn displayed on the a/v screens
- papier mache animals roaming around the stage
- riding of said animals
- hot sibling action
- band members fencing
- wangs hanging out

u seeing them at a festival or something??

i was actually standing on the side of the stage for this set (camping staff wristbands look identical to the ones that get u backstage :D ) and the song that impressed me most was not even technically an ac song, 'comfy in nautica' from panda's record. afterward i tried to tell them good job on their set, and they sorta had this attitude (except geologist who was cool as hell).

still kicking myself for not seeing m.i.a. instead tho

Yes, they're playing at Bonnaroo (which is why we're discussing them :) )

i've come around more to annimal collective lately. i prefer strawberry jam over this new one.

SJ has grown on me, too. There's a few great songs on there, like Cuckoo Cuckoo. I don't think they're going to be all that bad live either, their Chicago show got some really glowing reviews last month.

Excited to finally see Wilco, damn the live clips I've seen of them are impressive.

Are you shopping online for something embarassing? C'mon chia, we're all friends around here.

By the way, I kinda like Band of Horses. I had listened to them before, but I decided to really tackle it today. Maybe I'm biased because they have a song called "Detlef Schrempf" but it's not bad. I'm still not overly geeked to see them, but they're definitely an option.

- shopping for bras

- watching uhhh America's Next Top Model reruns
- eating indian takeout leftovers

Are they at Bonnaroo? I didn't see them on the lineup.

Cease to Begin was one of my albums yesterday, I liked it but didn't see all the MMJ comparisons. The guys voice was much less rich and full as Jim James.

Tim, I was not a fan before. I mean like I never heard one song, never saw any videos. Nothing. It was a complete and total fresh slate for me. Maybe those vids didnt do it justice, but dlo's comment on how shitty the music sounded is way off.

Not only was there AMAZING costume changes, outfits, props, backup dancers, a screen with crazy images and sometimes really really tripped out live video of the band. But the music was a ridiculously awesome blend of catchy pop, yummy dance tunes and intense psychedelic breakdowns and jam sessions. Sometimes all morphed into one. It was a carnival for my eyes and ears and it just felt unreal sometimes. Truly amazing tim, I cant even imagine how great this will be at bonnaroo

Backwater, I posted a couple of videos because the audio and video were clear in them, but I have re-iterated at least twice now that those are the most tame videos for of Montreal that I've ever seen. The costumes are wacky, the a/v backdrop is always interesting, there is almost always some sort of action going on to support the song (examples, as I mentioned, riding animals on stage, fencing on stage). They bring complicated stage setups and artwork -- especially now as the lead singer's brother is/was touring with them and doing performance art during the sets (and is responsible for some of the physical art in the setup).

And like Salah said... it just gets really jammy (in a good way) and if you have the right crowd, people get crazy.

I think they are an incredible pick for Bonnaroo, I can't wait to see what they'd do with a long set, freer reign on stage setup, and a good audience. I really hope they're a late night set.

let me put it this way, if there were going to be psychedelics for me, this would definitely be the set for them.

And sometimes that's all I look for in a show. I'm seeing Ozomatli in April and it's always a good time, even though I'm not a huge fan of them on record. Same with Manu Chao when I saw them at Coachella. I think I was arguing with Menik about this a few weeks ago, but sometimes you just have to take your music critic hat off and have fun.

I fully agree. I don't think Crystal Castles is "good" music at all (though I enjoy the recorded songs a lot) and when they perform they are.... not good. BUT! It's still fun and upbeat and people go nuts and dance. This is how I keep ending up going to shows of groups I don't think are very good.

But I'm not putting of Montreal in that category. I *LOVE* of Montreal.

Actually, this is one of my favorite things about SF, public nudity is not illegal here. The laws are about context. You can't be, like, hanging out in a bus stop next to a school wanking under your trenchcoat, but you can walk down a street naked and that's not illegal.

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man, but NSFW is a really important disclaimer for some people. I hope you've learned your lessons.

I'm having a Bonnaroo listening extravaganza today. I already listend to a Band of Horses album. Then it was Of Montreal and St. Vincent. Now NIN Ghosts (of course this isn't the first listen, but I was in the mood). I really really like the St. Vincent album. She and Portugal. The Man. are the two artists I'm glad to have discovered because of Roo so far.

Nah, you're not overreacting. It's bad enough that the Kevin pictures were posted, but there was absolutely no reason for Todd to come by and post even more explicit ones after seeing that people were objecting to NSFW pictures.

Links, kids, links. If you want to show something like that, make it clear that it's not work safe and put a link. Don't post inline.

Who should I be checking out from the lineup (that I've not mentioned on my list)?

You have been around long enough to know that posts like that get deleted, and people even get banned for it. I saw them at Roo and it wasn't really anything special for me. I'm a casual fan of Zappa and they did not play one single solitary song I knew. Probably my least favorite set of the weekend if I had to choose one. It was pretty good anyway though. I'm sure the bigger Zappa fans would just love it.

Yeah, it's true. It would be nice to be an obsessive fan of such a prolific artist like that... all of my favorite bands unfortunately have pretty small catalogs of recorded music, relatively speaking. So I run out of stuff to listen to pretty quick.

I am not that interested in a new album, but that is good to hear. I just want to see them in LA with Korn to satisfy my 11th grade self.

Are you kidding Dylan? I would love to see Zappa Play Zappa. It's usually really expensive though. I don't know anything about that other band with a stupid name.

I'm watching Made in Sheffield, which started out promising enough. I'm a sucker for music nostalgia documentaries.

What is wrong with hawking?

Anyways, what do you all think of the Sasquatch line up? I think it is pretty damn good.

if I didn't have a ticket to bonnaroo this year, I would like it a lot. Only other bands I care about that they got are gogol and EITS, and I saw them both last year.

hawkings is just a douche, I'm still not sure why he posts in this thread.

And I like the Sasquatch lineup quite a bit, I'd consider going if NIN or Jane's was playing Sunday and not both on Saturday.

Man, either way you get to see them both. So what is the big deal?, also one more time before I go to sleep, Sasquatch> Bonnaroo lineup.

Well, because I've seen every band playing on the last day that I'd want to see. Tough to justify sticking around for that.

I prefer the undercard of Sasquatch to that of Bonnaroo, at first glance. And actually, probably the lineup as a whole, too. Must look at it more closely.
