there are no mosquitoes at bonnaroo. Never seen a single one in four years. The only bug issues are occasional ants, and maybe some spiders if you are close to the trees.

Are you mentioning them just because they're "different" or the location is less traveled? Or because you like the lineup? I took a look at the Festival au Desert lineup... eh.

If I do end up going to Glasto and I like the Roskilde lineup, I'm going to that too -- since my plan after Glastonbury was to head to Denmark anyway.

Pearl Jam were fuckin incredible, Id love to see them at Bonnaroo, or any festival for that matter.... the way they can control the crowd and just rock out with an extensive list of songs they'll play live. The show was really great, but the show I saw at Lollapalooza 07 was insane....the audience were literally going ape shit, singing every single lyric being that Vedder is from Chicago... and I liked the setlist more in Chicago, but this was not at let down in the least. Wish I could catch them more often, but their shows are fairly expensive and there are only so many bands we can follow and catch often.

Pearl Jam at Bonnaroo was amazing. Much more packed than Bruce was it seemed. During Better Man almost everyone had lighters out and Eddie had to stop the song and take it all in. One of my favorite shows ever.

Than Kanye ruined the night by coming on 2 hours late.

What's the artwork like at Bonnaroo?

there is less "artwork" than coachella, but more standing stuff on the grounds (because they own the farm.) if it continues like it has been, it will start to build stuff up like glasto, with the fountain, and the bobbleheads, so on.

for like actual art, it's a lot of interactive stuff, some in the camp sites. less of a spectacle though.

liquidsnake28
10-04-2009, 10:53 AM
Artwork is one of the very few areas in which coach trumps roo. Roo has some cool artwork though, it's just not nearly as impressive and there's not as much of it.

So I guess Glasto is the only festival with massive themed areas for after-hours debauchery for their festival art? Bummer. Someone should really make something like that in America.

I loved going to some slightly obscure European festivals last summer (Pukkelpop and Get Loaded in the Park). The big secret is that they boast the same massive acts and debauchery but lack the name recognition of a Glastonbury. Cheaper too, especially those outside of the UK. And they're tons of them so with a little planning ahead. You could craft a killer trip around a few, while still seeing the sights.

Get Loaded in the Park.

Is this actually the real name of a festival? Hahaha, that's hilarious. So now are they just going to call bonnaroo, Eat Acid and do Nitrous Balloons on the Farm?

Seriously though, I agree that after reading Boourns Glasto review he would most definitely like bonnaroo. I'm thinking the lineup for next year is going to trump coachella's. I love the way their lineups are evolving. Less and less jambands, more quality mainstream bands like Sigur Ros, NIN and Bosstime while still keeping just a couple of the best jambands like STS9, Phish, Widespead Panic and My Morning Jacket. Maybe it's just a hunch but I'm really looking forward to this lineup.

What's the artwork like at Bonnaroo?

Kind of non-existent. And Coachella's art this year was so fucking jaw-dropping, this is something Bonnaroo needs to work on. They have so much space to work with, take away that fucking batting cage

i like the batting cage only cuz im a big baseball guy.. but if its not there, it wont bother me..

i wouldnt mind seeing more art.. on the side where the smaller stages are and the comedy tent, they have a ton of room and could add more exhibits...

liquidsnake28
10-06-2009, 09:12 AM
Hahaha, the batting cage. That was such a stupid idea I forgot about it. More/better art like at coachella would be nice but if it's spending money on bands vs. art, I'd go with the bands every time.

We are actually thinking of taking a like, 2 month long trip. Our idea right now is to start in Morocco. Then take a desert trip with the bedouins to Egypt. After Egypt, work our way up through the middle east and stay in Turkey for a while. That is just the idea we have for right now.

Be careful about bugging a band too much more favors, Josh. NIN (specifically Danny Lohner) got mad at me a long time ago for asking for more than one interview. You already got something out of them once by getting to do the proposal.

You didn't hear? They just anounced they are doing a 3 night residency in New York this December. Be sure to go to all 3. They did the same thing last year and between the 3 shows, they played almost every song they have recorded. Including songs off of Voila-Intruder which they hadn't played in years.

How was Non-Stop by the way? Its playing nowhere ever remotely close to me.

EDIT: Jason beat me.

Non-Stop was great. Loads of old, almost home-movie footage from Eugene's childhood and the bands extremely early days, along with interviews with all band members and following them on tour. Definitely worth a trip to go see.

at least bonnaroo puts out a DVD, right?

also, the selections come from an attempt to take a cross section of the entire diverse line up. they aren't putting a dvd out for us, they're putting a dvd out to try to hit all the kids who are raving about their first bonnaroo. and, if you're into bluegrass and you see Del McCoury Band on there, well that's one dvd sold right there.

Haha. Shitty tracklisting indeed. And I don't know if you guys noticed, or only if I noticed because I was so close... but NIN was the only set I saw all weekend without cameras filming. How about "*** up"? It's hilarious to see someone get pissed about the slang being used these days and then use "*** up" to describe this so called decline in the English language.

All these pics are great! Keep them coming :)

"Fagging up" is indeed a perfectly legitimate phrase. If it's not in the dictionary now then it will be very soon. *** can be used as a verb as well as a noun. For example, fagging around, fagging through, fagging about.

What was your DJ name? I'm gonna wander around promoting it anyway.

I have over 3,000 posts just in this thread. And most of it was bullshit. I'm pretty ashamed. I miss you guys, though.

I didn't have one actually. Other people gave me names but I never picked anything out.

Why didn't the thread continue?

Why did y'all stop going? Did the fest change too much or is it just circumstance?

Circumstance. And many people weren't pleased with last year's lineup. The fest is great and we all had a blast in 09.

I would say that 09' trip was pretty fantastic. I absolutely enjoyed how big and diverse our group was. Coachella represented hard at the Roo that year.

SUCH a great time at Bonnaroo that year. My one and only visit to the farm and I don't even know that I'll ever make it back, but I'm glad '09 was my year.
