Sure it's been done before, but why not do it again?

Why that screen name? What's the story behind it?

My name's Bryan Mack. I was born in 1986.
Since I have lots of friends named Br(y)(i)an, we all had nicknames, and Bmack has stuck with me since freshman year of high school. My high school friends carried it to college and it stuck there as well. It's stuck at work, and I don't even know how.

I had just watched Robin Hood Men in Tights, my favorite character was Blinken. So when I was kid playing Zelda Ocarnia of Time I needed a name for Link since my brother stole that one. I just put in Blinken, and have used it for video games ever since.

I was wondering if your name was from that movie! Every time I see one of your posts, I say "Did you say Abe Lincoln?" to myself.

As for my name, it is a reference to a Pearl Jam song. On Vs, there is a song called Leash. The chorus is "Get out of my fucking face," but the liner notes say "Get out of my lucky face." This is an old nickname that I have used for about 12 years now, and I just like how it sounds. I am not creative enough to come up with anything better.

my name has just stuck around with me for about a decade now going through a series of slight alterations. when I first made a sn on AIM, I was really getting into music for the first time, so the sweetest name ever for a 12 year old is obviously cobainapostle222. obviously my favorite band at the time, apostle for religious overtones and to show that hey man, I'm fucking SERIOUS about nirvana, and my birthday is february 22nd. then, maybe two years later even though I still loved nirvana I realized that having cobain in my name carried certain connotations, and also I had moved on to radiohead, so I took that out making it apostle222. then, I eventually got too lazy and got rid of all but one 2. thus, apostle2. that story sucked, I apologize to anyone who actually read through it.

ha ha ha ha, awesome.

mein was the name of woody harrelson's cat on will & grace. i've always found communist propaganda amusing for some reason, so i thought it worked for me.

also, 4 is my favourite number because in roman numerals, it's my name "IV". 7 was my former best friend from kindergarten's favourite number, so hence the 47.

the only thing is that at the time i created the screenname, my boyfriend at the time & i were on this kick where we'd add "men" to everything. for example, he called me "dino" (like a baby dinosaur, a whole other story all together), so at that time he was calling me "dinomen". so when i created the screenname, i created it as "chairmenmeow47" instead of "chairmanmeow47".

funny though, i've only ever had one person say something to me on fark. other than that, no one seems to notice or bring it up anyways.

Tu Estas Loca... So when I first got the internet towards the end of our marriage I was trying to think of a yahoo emal address that would work, I was feeling like I needed a little crazy in my boring life so I became locachica.

Some of these explanations are encouraging me to pronounce usernames in my head differently than I decided long ago they were pronounced. It's like losing a child. A child that I didn't know very well whose name I wasn't sure of that I never talked to, but a child nonetheless. It's unsettling. This is like when we found out Ivankay's name wasn't Ivan.

I think this wins the thread.

My parents named me Robert (after my late uncle Bob, who was also named Robert) with the full intention of calling me Bobby my entire life. So in fact my name, as I consider it, is actually my 'nickname,' so to speak. Every teacher I've ever had has called me Robert, unless I told them otherwise, and once I got to college I usually didn't even try. So my whole life I've been called a variety of variations on both Robert and Bobby (Rob, Robby, Bob) so my screen name was sort of an attempt to reconcile all the versions. At least my parents didn't give me a middle name.

In Italian that says you want (ed) to mount your Aunt McCabe. Lets just hope italians aren't reading the board. :lool

Hopefully they would realize that I was writing in English. And that Zia is a name. And that that was a joke.

Anything about my nick referencing Zia McCabe is ad hoc. I love (and loved) the Dandy Warhols but that wasn't what was going on; I didn't come up with that until friends I was in a fantasy baseball league with misinterpreted my name and asked me if I wanted to mount Kevin McCabe (a local sportscaster.)

The real story is that at the time (this was about 10 years ago) I had recently gotten into Kurt Vonnegut's books and had not yet realized that he had very little range; his stories were basically all variations on the same set of themes. So yeah, before I realized that I would tire of him relatively quickly I took my nick from my favorite of his books, Cat's Cradle. Mount McCabe is the mountain in the middle of San Lorenzo.

I had tried/started to use Mad dog as an online nick but even back then there were a million other people calling themselves mad dog and I'm not a big fan of tacking on miscellaneous numbers or other characters.

I was nicknamed Mad dog by a friend in high school, from playing football (after school, pick-up type football, nothing organized.) It was either meant to be ironic, encouragement or a sly insult. Like maybe he meant I played without any control or finesse and would only respond to short, sharp commands.

I have a bunch of other friends that insist on calling me Big J but I won't get into that.

He is definitely clever. I like his style and what he writes about. I have, taken alone, enjoyed every novel he's written (except Timequake.)

But I read a dozen of his novels and a couple other books in a span of about 4 years... which was far too quick. I got burnt out on him, I'd read a book and it'd feel like I was re-reading one of the others with the names and places changed.

I certainly still like Vonnegut... but there's no burning desire to re-read his books. After that four year run I have only read one of his novels. And despite my completest tendencies I still don't feel like reading Deadeye Dick.

I think I came this realization about him years ago, and made a conscious decision to slowly digest his entire literary canon. When I first got into him, I had the desire to read everything immediately, and I could certainly understand getting burnt out if doing that within a span of 4 years

I recently re-read Mother Night after a few years, and I still enjoyed it

Brown earned a fast reputation for outlandish and often macabre performances, which included the use of a burning metal helmet that led to occasional mishaps, such as a Windsor, England show in which the methanol fueling of the helmet crown poured over his head by accident and caught fire; two bystanders doused the flames by pouring beer on Brown’s head, preventing any serious injury.

There was a intro passage that read: "dialogue is usually a precursor to violence"

I have used it ever since for a Myspace and Coachella sn.

...Sadly, I never had one (that I know of, I did spend a lot of wasted nights there) but I always loved the name.

Heresy

Heresy is obviously a NIN song.

But one day while I was signing up for photobucket, I had a hard time thinking up a user name so I just glanced at Winamp at the song that was playing at the time and it happened to be Heresy.

Now I use it as a SN because it's simple and easy to remember. Although the down side is people mistaken me for a guy.

When I joined the board, I was excited to see Rage Against the Machine, so I chose the name of one of their best songs.

I hate the name I have, I should of changed it when I first signed up on the EZ board long ago, but for whatever reason I decided to use it....anyway, it's the name of some skate video, but I could care less about that, but I remember just coming across that title and thinking "hey that's a cool looking word and seems fun to pronounce"...then I looked it up and found it means "enjoy" in Thai or something like that. So yeah, it was a fun word to roll off the tongue and I liked the meaning of it.....but everyone shortened it to 'Menik" (which seems more like a real name or nickname) on here, which is sorta funny and cool with me. Ok done.

Cheddar's Cousin
10-29-2008, 06:38 AM
It started on another forum as a joke.

American cheese was called the really bland cousin of Cheddar. Another person having Seth's Brother already on the board as an alt account as a result of something Seth had revealed about his brother, I took this new opportunity to build a joke upon a joke.

alright, yes. it translates to yellow. not sure how that one came about, i was really young. i liked the yellow voltron guy, so maybe it stemmed from that.

the tierra came from my step dad. i used to ride BMX and come home filthy as hell. hence, tierra.

My name came from combining two of the bands that I have been in...

47 Thieves (my favorite band that I was in), and 10 Downing St. (my latest).
