View Full Version : Implants

In body modification, an implant is a device placed under the human skin for decorative purposes. Such implants may be subdermal or transdermal. In the context of body modification, some may consider injections of silicone and other substances a type of implant as well.

Some types of implants may be performed by doctors or other medical professionals, while others are performed by cutters.

Discuss.

man, I think implants are gross. just a personal opinion. I can even see the appeal of shit like dermal plugs and piercing suspensions and weird shit like that, and I have been tattooed, but scarification (through cutting or burning) and implants are not things that I feel add to the appearance positively, or that provide a spiritual experience. it's just showing off pain tolerance, which is something different. these people should just save everyone's eyes some annoyance and just learn to walk on hot coals or lie on nails like a normal person

I would consider getting a tattoo only if I could afford to have a favorite artist of mine KAWS, Futura, Junko Mizuno etc. make me a custom work of art.

When done carefully, tastefully, and interestingly, I am pro-body modification. Subdermal implants, however, will forever look like something was shoved under there by accident while using a power tool and you were stitched up by an amateur who forgot to remove the detritus.

Actually, my forthcoming tattoo is going to be a bug. Something along these lines, although someone else is going to have to design it because if I do it myself, I'll get really sick of looking at it (this was actually a postcard I made for someone that subsequently told me they were afraid of bugs before they knew about it):

I agree to a certain extent. I disagree that all body modification is for attention, though. there are obvious examples where you're right, but it's one of those things that just goes person to person. I would, however, say that unnecessary and/or tasteless body modification is more widespread than ever, giving an impression of that being the majority, which is unfortunate. I think generalizing is just asking for argument though :P

but yeah- I think tattoos that are done for no reason are painfully obvious.
I love my tattoo. it's just a start, but it was the right start for me. but I also recognize that if I decided to get a big tribal sleeve, I'd look like a fucking toolbox. Jill has a sugar skull with purple flowers on her upper leg, and it looks really nice. if she had a butterfly on her lumbar back, it'd look like junk.

I got my first one when I turned 30 after reaching a personal goal and that was my reward to myself. It is a drawing by one of my favorite artists, and I have a thing for fairys. My second one which I cant find a picture of for some reason was a year later and is my kids names on the back of my shoulder blades around the sun/moon. Since then I have gotten one a year, some are kind of last minute things but usually mean something important at the time and they are more to remember the special time, always done on vacation where ever I am to remember the trip.

Here is the one I couldn't find last night while high. Those are my kids names around it. The funny part of the story (cuz there is always a funny part) is that I dated the artist that did that tattoo. It was the most painful tat I got due to the location, or maybe he was mad at me, who knows. But with it being right there on the spine/nerve center of the back of my neck I could feel the pain down my arms. So I was getting a little whiney while he did my daughters name. So I asked... Fuck are you damn near done? He said... yep, just finishing up the E. Well I was in so much pain it took me about 3 minutes to realize there is no E in my daughters name which is why there is that odd looking swirly at the end of Alysha's name.

Oh and the boa... it was my birthday and they made me wear it.

I even find some piercings look cool/sexy. On the right people. I just don't understand that shit though, I also don't get the huge guaging of the ears. The smaller ones are ok as long as they eventually go back to normal size, but the guys that have huge spool like holes in their ears freak me out. Their grand kids will be able to play peek a boo through their ear holes. That is not all that sexy.

i really hate most facial piercings. i had a fuck buddy with two in his lips that were so freaking annoying. and i always had to be careful and not hurt whatever new gangsta tat he was sporting. god that guy was a douche, what was i thinking?!

i have a girlfriend who looks good with sleeve tats and has a faux beauty mark type facial piercing that's pretty cute, but i rarely find it attractive. it's interesting, but not attractive in the slightest to me. i dunno, i like the way smooth, clean skin looks. but that's just me.

the only thing i ever tried besides my ear was getting my belly button pierced, and i was retarded about it and let a girl at my boarding school do it when we were freshman. we lived dorms in the mountains and it was like november or december. we had nothing in the way of an ice machine, so i had to use cold soda cans from the vending machine to numb the area. it took an hour and a half cause i have really tough skin or someting and got infected in like a week. now i have a scar. everyone else's she did turned out just fine, but it must have been me. i haven't really had the urge since then.

here's me at 14 in the act, listening to "mean mr. mustard" by the beatles, lol:

But there is just something about a tongue piercing, just because I know the main reason people get those and I don't even want to associate that thought with my daughter or anyone else to for that matter. Even though I know it is because she likes how it looks and not any other reason. I just know what other people think.
