now is this more because you want to scalp tickets or because you actually want to see them?

Wheres the beef?
10-06-2008, 11:18 AM
You'd have to be retarded not to scalp tickets to Zepp at Coachella. The asking price would be almost limitless.

And don't give me any of that blah blah blah about depriving actual fans and all that. The kinds of people that would be infesting coachella if zeppelin were playing are the kinds of people I wouldn't have a problem making a buck off of.

It's not hate for the band. It's hate for in the inability to get tickets! When Rage headlined in '07, tickets sold out for Sunday immmediately.

Now, when LZ played their show in London earlier this year, 20 million people signed up for a lottery in which only 20,000 tickets were available.

Consider the possibility. It doesn't look good for anyone, from Zepplin diehards to Coachella diehards, the pickings will be very, VERY slim.

I think the Coachella diehards have a better chance of going if Zeppelin plays than the Zeppelin diehards. We will get in on pre-sale tickets and all that because the lineup doesn't play a huge role in whether or not we are going. For us, we know we're going to Coachella. It's fun when they release the lineup because we find out who we're seeing.

I can totally see this point, though. I would be a little worried about getting tickets if that happened. Do you think they would do with Zeppelin what they did with Prince and just sorta add him after tickets went on sale? So as to avoid the initial clusterfuck.

Like I mentioned before, LZ is the Police of 2009. In '07, people were expecting The Police to play Coachella ( even after PF said otherwise ), so I kinda get the impression that people expect Zepplin, despite the fact that Robert Plant has stated, on his website, that he is not playing with Zepplin anytime soon. So I just see something coming out of left-field that no one was expecting as a headliner.

And that's how I'd like it.

I think it's funny that I was one of those Ragegrrr fans that went to Coachella because of them. I had heard of Coachella before that, but wasn't a Coach geek like I've become. I think I bought my tickets a day or 2 after they went on sale. Maybe I bought them that day and my memory is just fucked. How long did you wait to buy them in 2007, Salah? same here, I did it for lolla. The difference when you don't know the lineup, and you have your tickets is that when the lineup comes out you look at the stuff you care about. What you don't like doesn't really appear too much, you have your tickets you are happy with what you got. As opposed to not having tickets, and you start pointing out what is shit to you. Like many people did this year with JJ. So you start thinking about whether or not to buy tickets, and you weight the good bands/artists with the bad ones.

I thought this years "presale" was actually after they announced the lineup, but before the tickets went on the general market. All you need to do to get presale is be on the mailing list, right? Ok I am now 100% behind Randy on this one...
I have been listening to the Zeppelin reunion show they did in December of 07and it fucking KILLS....no joke...it sounds amazing...even in their old age this guys can jam...I just want to hear Kashmir, No Quarter and Whole Lotta Love (that middle section is just amazing...) live before I die...and in the polo grounds it will be even more Epic...As long as I can get tickets I back this 100%...I repeat AS LONG AS I CAN GET TICKETS I back this 100%...if you haven't listened to the performance you should...especially if you were a LZ fan...also, don't do it without Plant...because anyone else just ain't shit...

so this is what I am predicting in terms of headliners...

Sunday: Radiohead

I'd be really disappointed if Daft Punk headlined. I'm sure Daft Punk would be fine being a lower billed band. But the pyramid was the main reason to see Daft Punk... Daft Punk will be performing in a brand new five dimensional stage array. Quantum bricks will be shit all over the polo fields.

five dimensional?!?!

In physics and mathematics, a sequence of N numbers can be understood to represent a location in an N-dimensional space. When N=5, the space consisting of all such locations is called the fifth dimension.

Abstract five-dimensional space occurs frequently in mathematics, and is a perfectly legitimate construct. Whether or not the real universe in which we live is somehow five-dimensional is a topic that is debated and explored in several branches of physics, including astrophysics and particle physics.

Daft Punk will be performing in a brand new five dimensional stage array. Quantum bricks will be SHAT all over the polo fields.

But the pyramid was the main reason to see Daft Punk... Without it, they're just "those two guys that made that cool album called Discovery, but otherwise, hey, can we get Simian Mobile Disco back in Coachella, because they conflicted with Dark Side of the Moon, and I want to see them more than Daft Punk-sans Pyramid?"

Do you honestly think Daft would come back without some kind of new epic producton and album?

do you honestly think daft punk would make anything better than homework? 'cuz human after all is really shit. daft punk should stop playing for another ten years and if they have something decent by then, come back with an awesome production and get tons of money again.

I'm sorry, I still don't like LZ.

To me, their presence there is a burden because of the ticket sales and of course the tons of people will drag in. Not to mention the kind of people it will drag in.

If they WERE there though (which you have to admit is highly unlikely) and they weren't conflicting with someone who I thought was better than them. Than I'd see them. Because I could be like "yeah, I saw LZ, sup?"

And then everyone would worship my mega-enlightened cock.

Or something like that.

It would take an epic production, because I'll only give Daft Punk Discovery. I don't care much for Homework or Human After All. They're alright, but I don't get all wet over it. The point is, I know a lot of acts that you can stick inside a giant geometrical shape with a lot of lights and video screens who have better albums than Daft Punk.

For example, Coachella should bring Hot Chip back and put them in a space octagon, because Made in the Dark is better than Daft Punk's complete discography. You see?

But the point isn't making a greater or equal visual experience. That's missing my point. The point is getting a band with better music a visual experience equal to or greater (or maybe even a little bit less) than Daft Punk's visual experience. I'm all for Daft Punk at Coachella. I just think that Daft Punk would play Coachella even if they weren't headlining, and I would like to see something crazy like the pyramid, because that seems like the correct way to see a Daft Punk set. Yes.

Also it wasn't any other band and it never will have been able to be, if you catch my drift.

Daft punk brought the pyramid quite specifically because they were the only group that could have. This is a fact, not an opinion.

Any act that comes along with some fancy new light show will automaticaly be put to the DP litmus test.

No matter how many "spaceships" you put a fantastic band like Blur into, it will never be a game changer the way the Alive tour was.

So I was parruzing through COACHELLAS myspace, looking for anything that could be a hint of some sort. Well in thier blog of 'WHO DO YOU WANT IN 09', this character from Mexico managed to get out the first response. It was indeed Zepplin, Radiohead, and MOBY.....

Does this mean anything, probably not. But given the circumstance Id say thats a damn good guess, if it is indeed a guess.

Heres my opinion on Radiohead. I truely believe they wanted to play last year but instaed Paul makes a deal with them. You guys play my new eastcoast festival, shit Ill even give you guys both nights to build it up and in return Ill give you a headlining spot at next years COACHELLA X.

I basically agree with you. The only way it would work is if they announced them at the last minute, like with Madonna. That way, most of the tickets are already sold, and this way they just guarantee a sold-out show. However, I kind of like not having the place 100% sold out, because then there is more room for me.

If Led Zep are going to play anywhere in the USA next year, I would call them to play 2 nights at Coachella(maybe 3). It is a big 'if' but something I heard when I was in London.
Radiohead is something I can't quite fathom. They seem to be in Mexico a month before, unless they went and did a whole South American tour after Mexico and finish off at Coachella then it might fit. But they are not going to do Mexico, fly back and come back just for Coachella-it doesn't hold up against Radioheads 'environmental touring' policy.
