Fucking awesome. Its always been a bit cooler the week leading up to Coachella, and then scorching the last weekend of April. Time to reserve a spot at Cahuilla once it gets within 6 months.

it does not get over 100 in the middle of April. It's not until the week later or so. We should get GREAT weather if past weather is any indication.

I am sad :( too early for me, as law school finals actually begin on the 18th and end the 24th. I hope the lineup sucks now, well not really. I would find solace in missing Coachella if Steve Aoki was a headlinging dj in the sahara tent. Then it will be worth it to miss :) (note sarcasm)

LOL HIGH SCHOOL.

man, APs sucked balls. i just remember my junior year when the APUSH teacher thought that, since the rumor in AP teacher land was that the document based question would be about andrew jackson, that's all anyone studied for three days.

that amazing collected groan from 100+ students when we all opened the essay book to find a question about the life of revolutionary war Americans was priceless. i still got a 5, but whatever.

but yeah, fuck the aps and go to coachella. there's really not much studying you do anyway, depending on the subject. it's like the SAT---you either know it, or you don't. studying won't help.

cansei de ser sexme
10-05-2008, 10:16 PM

the exact same thing happened to me junior year, our teacher acted like he had a hot tip so we studied the cold war for 2 weeks, but none of the essay questions were on the cold war, it was about farming in the south during the great depression

It has been 7 or 8 years since my APs but studying is the key. Then again I never payed attention in class or did homework, but I managed to pass 6 AP tests in high school.

The rumor my US History year was Indians, but it was the robber barrens like Rockafeller and Carnagie. I guess they get it wrong alot.

when you have a car the best thing to do at Coachella ever is to park in the south lot and DO NOT FOLLOW TRAFFIC. look at a map beforehand and know the general area and take the really dark streets south of coachella through the middle of nowhere to get to the main streets and highways. We had a house like 4 miles away last time and right after fatboy slim on friday it literally took us 25 min to get there.

hahahah you took music theory? i took regular music theory and ruled out the AP class in like the second week. That stuff is hard, good job on your 5's though.

this one guy that went to our school last year took every AP our school had to offer and self studied for the rest to a total of 21 AP tests overall by senior year. he got all 5's and a 4 in music theory and a 3 in physics C i think haha. and he was gay and started the drama club at our school AND was mexican. i mean, perfect package for every scholarship ever? Bastard. He got into Yale early app binding but still applied to more colleges and got in to stanford and harvard. He is seriously a jackass. Let him be an inspiration, in the Coachella dates confirmed thread.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival will be moved up a week earlier

Bruce Fessier • The Desert Sun • October 6, 2008

The annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the subsequent Stagecoach Country Music Festival will be moved up a week earlier than ever before, it was announced today.

The Los Angeles-based Goldenvoice promoters said the 10th annual Coachella will be held April 17, 18 and 19 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. The third annual Stagecoach festival will be held April 25 and 26 at the same venue, but officials said "campers should plan on rolling in as early as the evening of the 23rd."

Coachella has been presented the last week of April or the first week of May every year since its inaugural event in 1999, when it was held over two days in October. Stagecoach has been held the first week of May the past two years.

Coachella is the most acclamed outdoor indie music festival of the decade, as determined by the concert industry trade publication Pollstar. It has presented headliners such as Coldplay, Radiohead, Prince, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails and Beck.

The lineup for Coachella is usually announced around the end of January while the Stagecoach lineup has been announced before Christmas. But this is the earliest the dates have been announced for Coachella and Stagecoach.

Hotel rooms for Coachella normally sell out months in advance and hotels usually increase their rates around the traditional weekend of Coachella. Stagecoach draws a bigger camper and RV audience.

for the record, the only dust I've ever encountered at coachella has been at night on the way back into the campground, and that's just because of that one little sandy road between the fields. dude, why not shell out for on-site lodging? with it sounding like most motels are already booked, it might actually be an economically sound option this year. if it's cheap enough and still has mainstage wristbands, I might even shell out.

yeah, me too. but I go to coachella to give myself over to the experience for the weekend. I feel like leaving the polo grounds would kind of... shit how do I put this

break the magic spell?

especially with the spotlights flying around all batshit crazy overhead last year, and the rave thursday night, the campground had the same enchanted feeling as the fest itself. the date palms are a big part of it, too. I suppose if you live in southern california, there's less appeal to camping, as backwards as that may seem. I love that part of the world, and I love that specific spot, so camping out there is just awesome for me.

Water bottles, canopies a cooler full of beer and semi-clean showers make me happy. So does only walking an eighth of a mile to the spot where I will be sleeping as opposed to walking to my car and waiting in traffic for 2 hours.

new dates being the key words here. what was wrong with the old dates? when an annual festival is on the same weekend for about 8 years or so, people expect it to stay that way. they start planning on that weekend as much as a year before. i say fuck the new dates

also i hope this is one of the hottest coachella's ever (like 1999/'04 hot) just to spite all those that think because its one week earlier we will all be wearing sweaters. i mean do you guys want to be able to wear jeans, or do you want to see Paris Hiltons face melting off in the hot desert sun? get your priorities straight people

Didn't see this (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/soundboard/2008/10/coachella-and-s.html) mentioned anywhere...

"First, Coachella is moving up early in April. Why? The answer lies in Louisiana, of all places. AEG Live, the concert promotion company that became a partner in Coachella in 2001, is also the corporate engine these days behind the grand old New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which will be April 24-26 and April 30-May 3. Both massive events are now national (or international even) in their target audience and media coverage and for logistical reasons the decision was made to spread them out a bit."

I'm fine with the date change. I'm just glad they announced it earlier so I didn't book the wrong weekend.

I give Daily Swarm and others credit for posting the early dates first.

I'm not fully convinced that they moved both Coachella and Stagecoach because of this other festival. Hasn't the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival been going since the 70s? I don't know how long AEG has been running it but wouldn't they have done this earlier if it was such a concern?

Plus if you look through the 2008 line up I don't really see it as much of a competing line up for fan attention..

There are some crossover Coachella acts but not tons of them.

So, hooray for official dates.
But I have problem.

We are going to be flying from Portland this year, and the thing that makes most sense would be camping. But after camping in 04 an 05, I'm kind of over it, and I'm a little spoiled having a hotel room for the last 3 years.
So is anyone flying AND getting a hotel room?
If so, are you renting a car? How are you getting around and most importantly getting to the grounds?

Any info would be good.

... bus maybe??

Glad it moved up a week, I guess?

I don't know people. An east coast boy like myself might not make it another year, especially with 2008 ripping my budget in pieces. It will take an act of forceful nature to get me back there.

Ah, what am I saying? See you there.

an act of forceful nature? Like a huge tornado carrying you from NC to Indio like the one that took Dorothy and Toto to Oz?

hahahah you took music theory? i took regular music theory and ruled out the AP class in like the second week.

They give out gay scholarships?

OH SWEET TITTIES! THANKS COACHELLA!

We throw down $1500 bucks to reserve a 5 bedroom pad RIGHT next to the polo grounds for both of the possible weekends, complete with game room, swimming pool, etc...and WHAT DO YOU DO!??!

You make it a weekend that you've never had it on before...sweet, thanks.

If for some reason someone had the insight to reserve it for that weekend, we're done.

:/ WTF with the game room, swimmingpool, yada, yada, yada? Okay, I can see the pool after spending all day at the fest, but a gameroom? C'mon...

this (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/soundboard/2007/04/coachella-just.html) was posted for 2007...the temps sound about right...

Coachella: Just send ice
07:00 PM PT, Apr 23 2007
If you're like me, you're too busy preparing for a long weekend in the desert to do some the things you're supposed to be doing -- for me, posting on this blog. But I'm paying attention. In fact, my preprations tell me the weather forecast calls for high temperatures of 97, 98 and 98 degrees, respectively, for the three days of the Coachella festival. "I'm a bit worred about that, actually; I don't deal well with heat," says singer-bassist Jamie Reynolds of the Klaxons, here from England to perform Sunday. Told that bands have been known to seek relief by being doused with ice water, Reynolds says, "I think I'm going to have someone prepare [a bucket] for me."

still lookin for some 2008 temps...but it was also around mid 90s -- high 90s. both years the weeks prior were 86-89.

no but when he wrote out applications for scholarships he talked about going to an all guys school when being gay was not easily accepted and the troubles he had with that. His brother is one of my good friends. He is smart but not close to his bro
