Well, Kevin said "I haven't heard that one" when I asked if what I heard about them playing next year was true. And he said they couldn't play this year because it was too soon. Bilinda said no more touring was planned and next they were going to work on the next album. Considering that it's MBV they will surely still be working on it during Coachella even if they went to the studio tomorrow.

CHRIS CAGLE: http://chriscagle.musiccitynetworks.com/?id=2789&loc=5

If Chris Cagle's site is accurate then that Daily Swarm report of Coachella being earlier was correct because Cagle has his date on the empire polo field as the following..

Indio, CA April 25, 2009 Empire Polo Grounds

If that's correct then Coachella is happening April 17th to the 19th..

Unless he's one of the cross over acts that play both but I highly doubt it. He's not high profile enough.

As pointed out by another thread that it was also confirmed by Pollstar.

fiyahhh!
10-05-2008, 05:26 AM
Yeah, Chris Cagle has no cross-over potential. Willie Nelson could because he's a legend and Dwight Yoakam could because he was always on the fringe of the country music establishment, often playing punk venues when he was first getting started because country bars didn't want to book him.

Yeah the first time I saw him at a skate shop in westwood for unfamiliar faces, he was freaking out cuz there were so many people and he was on eye level with us (no stage). But he just kinda drank some of his whiskey and then he was all good. He unfortunately didn't play sunshine though which i was sad about but then he played the glass house and if i remember correctly he did indeed play it so all is well.

Talking Heads just wont happen period. David has no intention of playing with them again, he already did that at their Rock and Roll hall of fame induction, let alone an entire tour with them.

Chris and Tina don't do American festivals.

Best bet is a David Byrne solo set.

Buraka Som Sistema are a Portuguese band whose genre is kuduro. Their first hit was "Yah!" in 2006, featuring Petty and Kalaf, and their second hit was "Wawaba".
In 2008, Buraka Som Sistema released the song Sound of Kuduro. It features M.I.A, DJ Znobia, Saborosa and Puto Prata, and this is the first single of the new album Black Diamond that will be released in 2009. Their label is Enchufada in a partnership with Sony BMG, and this is their first album, after the EP From Buraka to the world, that showed the 'progressive kuduro' of the band

April 2009 headlining, for support

Well you just got me unrelatedly excited...
Anybody here at the Che Cafe show in San Diego last March? Incredible.

Could maybe possibly The Prodigy be listed as a significant rumor yet? Consequence of Sound has them up for the first official "rumor"... and their site is usually quite good for this, in my opinion.

I wouldn't completely rule out Depeche Mode. I think it's very unlikely and I don't want it to happen at all because it would be a waste of a perfectly potentially good (sub)headliner. But their tour commences on May 10th. Coachella is three weeks before that, plenty of time to play a show and get to Israel.

Also, for the sake of life, RADIOHEAD will be playing Coachella in 2009. South America and Mexico tour in April, come on.

It's true, kinda funny really, and they get news about a lot of others things (other fests) from here too... regardless, I think that after Buraka Son Sistema, Prodigy's probably the best rumor going right now... which is pretty sweet in my opinion being that they're a sub-headliner. So I dunno, could be worth mentioning...

Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon I wouldn't be opposed to but wouldn't be ecstatic about, since they just played two years ago and aren't that great. Klaxons. Klaxons...ehh. Id love to see them, but Id rather get Reverend back for skipping out last year. Plus Jaime Reynolds (Klaxons lead singer) was there last year, he came out during Mark Ronsons set and did a song.

right now since its early, we are going with confirmations/unconfirmations, and solid rumors only (although a solid rumor is still a rumor). the article said a long standing offer for them to play so we will leave as is. and prodigy is from earlewir in the year and nothing conflicts yet so it will stand as well.. as long as there is a rumor that has coachella in it and can be backed up with a link then it can be included. once we get closer alot of bands will go down to the second tier of"maybe" bands... till then its very loose! :)

Prodigy, Chemical Bros both played 2002... of course that was only 2 days too... and that's not to mention Tiesto, Oakenfold, Sash & Digweed, Groove Armada, etc.

I think that was a particularly big EDM year though. The recent years have been different.

EDIT: In 2001, for the one day, they had Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Bros, The Orb, Roni Size, Tricky, and AFX (kinda), etc., in other words... about half the lineup was EDM

In '99 they also had Chemical Bros, Underworld, AND Moby.

Prodigy, Chemical Bros both played 2002... of course that was only 2 days too... and that's not to mention Tiesto, Oakenfold, Sash & Digweed, Groove Armada, etc.

I think that was a particularly big EDM year though. The recent years have been different.

EDIT: In 2001, for the one day, they had Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Bros, The Orb, Roni Size, Tricky, and AFX (kinda), etc., in other words... about half the lineup was EDM

oakenfold is not that big anymore. sasha and digweed never were as big as chemical brothers or underworld. same goes for roni size, tricky, and aphex. i'm talking about big acts such as underworld, chemical brothers, the prodigy, etc. i can't picture those 3 PLUS other 3 non-electronic big headliners in the same weekend.

No more Gogol at coachella....pretty soon they're gonna be like Perry and you just can't get rid of them.

you say that as if perry hanging out every year is a bad thing, and gogol, come on, they fucking rock and are fun...

they sell tickets, and add value...

would you rather have justice every year??

(although i secretly want justice to perform at the campground on thursday night in 09)

Gogol Bordello exclusive campground party

I would be 1000% down for this.

But don't worry Erik, I highly doubt Gogol Bordello will be there in 09. Eugene Hutz said they would definately play if they were asked, but he has yet to hear anything from them.

Yeah, I can't imagine them playing 3 years in a row. But if Paul has really bad luck getting other acts of a similar billing, I can see a late invite going out.

PARTY!

I asked Eugene Hutz if Gogol would be back at Coachella 09 and he said yes, if they were invited... so no leads at the moment...

Excellent work Paul. Now to get them an invite...

Gogol Bordello exclusive campground party

Out of control awesome. But pretty much any exclusive campground set would be.

They're one of the best live acts out there. Go to a different stage. The question about Gogol coming back is where they would be placed after moving to the main stage already. They should have been at the outdoor theater after dark last year.

This is unbelievably true. I couldn't really enjoy them too much this year. Completely spent from Saturday and the sun was extra brutal on the mainstage

Actually, I cant fathom how amazing a Gogol Bordello private show in the campground would be. And don't anounce it until either a)camping is sold out or b)Monday, the week of the festival.

I'd take them over the fucktards who parade around the tents with bongos at 4 a.m.

theres going to be "bros" no matter who plays because its now "trendy" to go to coachella. its horrible, but true. I have a feeling paul will continue to book an act like jack johnson to play at least a subheadliner on one night in order to get people like this (i'd count on friday again). money is money.

I still think dispatch would be good for coachella, as many said "bros" have no idea who they are.

Why don't we just throw in OAR, G-Love, Dave Matthews, Counting Crows and Lifehouse while we're at it?
