A new album coming soon, and I see on their myspace they have a live show in Tokyo after some DJ dates in the UK.

One of my favorite acts ever srsly needs to come back to the states soon!

I'm gonna be all over whatever hopeful tour happens, but Coachella needs to happen as well.

I constantly play these 3 sweet recordings from their 2007 tour alot.

Some people here are obsessed with bands like Radiohead and even nerdy about it (in a good way). I'm like that with Basement Jaxx (...and several other non-EDM stuff... Not to discredit me or anything).

*random drunken thoughts end*

JSam67
10-01-2008, 02:54 AM
I'm fairly confident we're getting Basement Jaxx and Prodigy, paulb. The only other acts I feel this confident about are Massive Attack and Band of Horses. I don't even need to know who the headliners are if those 4 acts are there, it's got Best Coachella Ever potential on that foundation.

paulb

Prodigy+Band of Horses>Coachella 07+08.

JSam67
10-01-2008, 03:04 AM
Agree 100%! BoH were simply amazing at Red Rocks. I need them at sunset Sunday leading into Beck with strings leading into Bowie. I NEED IT

paulb
10-01-2008, 03:06 AM
did you post Youtube vids of Band of Horses from Red Rocks in that fest thread? If so, they were awesome...and their show opening for Beck in Aug, is still one of the best show ive seen this year probably... BEST opening act set, ive ever seen for sure.

sbessiso
10-01-2008, 03:07 AM
how is it that I have zero clue what BoH sound like but everyone else does?

JSam67
10-01-2008, 03:10 AM
Because every band I tell you to get into follows the same process:

1) You "acquire" several of their CDs
2) You tell me you "acquired" them and can't wait to listen to them
C) You keep listening to the same CDs you recently "acquired" and let the new band fall by the wayside

Band of Horses rules. They're a small step down from MMJ.

JSam67
10-01-2008, 03:12 AM
Oh and paulb, I'm very jealous of that show. I hoped against hope it would be BoH and not MGMT opening for our Beck shows the next 2 days, but c'est la vie.

Best opener I saw: LCD Soundsystem --> Arcade Fire (f*** off Salah, AF is amazing, they're another band you'll get someday)

sbessiso
10-01-2008, 03:14 AM
Did you just go Supre on me?? Don't you mean Eff off?

paulb
10-01-2008, 03:17 AM
the crazy thing was, I had no clue what Band of Horses even sounded like... I was almost planning on skipping their set and seeing what was going on downtown... but i figured i spent the money on a concert, might as well see who i paid for.... so im sitting down, they start to play..... a little southern feel to it... but each song just kept getting better and better.... the audience were really into it and loud, which made it even better... they had 3 standing ovations...and ive NEVER seen an opening band get that much love at this venue before... then, just when i thought their set was perfect enough... they drop this one song which absolutely blew my mind, had me closin my eyes and fuckin feelin it...later I find out the song was called, The Funeral. WOW. what a song. I immediatly after their set go to the soundboard guy, and get their setlist, cause I wanted to know what I just saw.... it was too perfect... them on the Outdoor Theater next year will be heaven. I wont miss these guys ever again if they come to town.

JSam67
10-01-2008, 03:21 AM
That's a great BoH story, paulb, I'm glad you had such a moment with them! His voice is just perfect, they were meant to play at Red Rocks, it seemed. I hadn't seen them prior to that and it was the driving factor in making the trip (plus SSPU, who are equally amazing). I was not disappointed. They've gotta be at Coachella, and I will be front and center. The Funeral was the best song at Red Rocks too (since they didn't play Detlef Schrempf). My buddy posted the vids, I think, btw.

And Basement Jaxx at Coachella is going to be phenomenal, just to get back a little bit to the topic.

sbessiso
10-01-2008, 03:23 AM
staying on-topic is way overrated, not unlike arcade fire

;)

JSam67
10-01-2008, 03:26 AM
Yeah really who cares? There's only like 3-4 of us up this late/early, we may as well converse.

P.S. Salah, I bought you an adorable Arcade Fire scarf and fanny pack for this weekend.

sbessiso
10-01-2008, 03:27 AM
now you're speaking my language!

and the fanny pack was a joke! i feel you're not understanding this!

paulb
10-01-2008, 03:27 AM
please call me Paul, Josh. How did you like Silversun? I saw them in a 300 person club here right before Coachella 07, loved it... then saw them on the mainstage and didnt really like it as much... a guy i know in LA was actually roommates with the keyboardist from the band...

JSam67
10-01-2008, 03:32 AM
Fanny packs are nothing to joke about, Salah. Keep it together. :)

Paul, no shit, your friend was roommates with Joe Lester? I idolize that guy, my band finally got a microKORG for me to mess around with in similar fashion.

I LOOOOVE Silversun, seen them more than any other band, twice in Cali, twice in Chicago, once at Red Rocks. They've been different every time. At the Wiltern last year, they were MINDBLOWING. They played every song in their catalog, very on point. And they were amazing at Red Rocks too, they kicked up a storm, it was utter chaos.

Essentially, they're a perfect blend of two of my favorite bands, Smashing Pumpkins and MBV. In fact, I just voted for that combo of shows for my imaginary concert trip. But I'm a shoegaze addict, what can I say? Very jealous you got to see them in a 300-person venue btw. They did bust out 2 new songs at RR, I've got a good vibe about the upcoming CD.

paulb
10-01-2008, 03:37 AM
awesome, in 2007 lazy eye quickly went to my Top 5 most played songs ever... I love their debut LP... the show i saw, they did the entire Carnavas cd and 3 EP tracks as an encore... it was really great...id def wanna see them again... I love Smashing Pumpkins alot... Mellon Collie was one of the main cds that got me even into music, along with the Blue Album, and Cranberries No Need To Argue... but... I just listened to MBV Loveless, and I could barely depict a song on that whole cd... I gave it a chance, but, i couldnt hear the vocals at all, and I didnt see the appeal in the band... maybe i should try again.

massive attack is a stretch. id say you have a better chance of seeing groove armada in 09.

but i would love to see basement jaxx and groove armada in one weekend that would be crazy. plus chem bros or prodigy and its like woooooo. (id prefer chem bros being that i havent seen them) but prodigy would be fun too

!

I can't find no damn place for a gigography on them (apparently, Wikipedia doesn't have EVERYTHING), but I don't think they ever did a nice sized consecutive tour in the states.

Festivals and scattered solo shows.

I'm hoping to go to a festival gig and at least one solo show. I may have to go to NY and Coachella for those.

Also, note how the mighty have fallen. Where Paul Oakenfold one would have headlined, he is now billed under fucking CSS.

BTW, what's the difference between Basement Jaxx live and a DJ set? Is it sort of like the difference between Justice live and Justice DJ set or is it more akin to Moby live vs. Moby DJ set?

I don't see Cassie Watson :( (a usual live performer for their live shows. This new girl is dressed like her though... i was potentially looking foreward to seeing Cassie perform live).
And the girl in the wedding dress is also someone I don't recognize from previous shows. But then again, they change up songs and performers for alot of shows......

But Vula and Slarta John are there...no pics of the jaxx themselves or the stage are around yet.

But I think I'm getting wayy too obscure in the jaxx universe ;)

The last lineup of vocalists were great from past tours.
I guess I gotta wait to see if these new girls are as good.

And it doesn't look like they got a nifty light spectacle with video n stuff that they usually do either for this tour. Either that, or it would have been too much of a hassle to bring to Aussie, and are strictly for solo shows.

Thanks for posting the vids (as the person who took them) I can personally testify to the amazingness of the Jaxx live. I saw them in 07 over in London and vowed never to miss them if they came out here (aus). The lineup is changed around a bit sure but they were just freaking awesome. As energetic, fun and tight as I remember them last time. Also got one of 'Good Luck' including a bit of the intro.

Their new album will be titled "SCARS" and is due in may or june.

With the memories of their energetic headline shows at the 2009 Future Music Festival still fresh in our minds – check out the pics from their Sydney headline show for proof! – we won’t have to wait too much longer to get another taste of legendary UK dance act Basement Jaxx.
In an interview with Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1 Essential Selection program Felix Buxton of the duo said the album, titled Scars, is finished and in the process of being mastered. It will be their fifth studio album to date, and it has a proposed release date of late May/early June. “It’s all good,” Felix told Radio 1. “It was all being mastered when we came out to Colombia a few days ago, so it should all be solidifying at the moment.”
Felix also spoke of the album’s guests, revealing they’ve once again lined up a diverse array of vocalists including Yoko Ono, Santigold, Lightspeed Champion and Yo! Majesty, and he recounted road-testing their new tracks on their tour of Australia last month. “Just before this, we were in Australia and the new tracks went down really well,” he said.

As for any U.S. dates, Buxton remains non-committal. "If people like the music and really get into it, then we’ll probably come," he says. "If they don't, we won't."

I don't know what that means. Maybe they are waiting for the album to come out (now due in october).

it means they think people don't like them in america. which to an extent is true. they certainly aren't liked here anywhere near as much as they are in europe or australia. (or I guess south korea or japan)

To be honest no. You're right I would have never guessed a year ago that they would play a Hard event. I don't think Basement Jaxx fills that mold as well.

...but we all knew HARD events needed to do something different if they wanted to keep surviving. Adding authentic acts such as Underworld definitely does the trick.

How does Underworld fit the mold better than Basement Jaxx? Please explain.

boarderwoozel3
08-06-2009, 10:50 AM
I say that because Underworld are more computer driven and Basement Jaxx are more organic in their live show. UW have more of an edge to them that seems to resonate with the demographic HARD is going after. The Jaxx--while equally splendid--are more of a dance band, live anyway. But both certainly do DJ sets. :2c

More than anything else it's that Underworld has more of an edge than Basement Jaxx.

Perhaps, but by judging past HARD line-ups it seems like the typical HARD audience would prefer a dancey band over something like UW.

It's some Subsonic/Live105 Halloween event. Basement Jaxx pulled the date from their site, so:

1) They likely jumped the gun and announced it too soon
2) The event fell through and their just doing a DJ set a Mighty.

If it's the former, expect acts like Flosstradamus or Hot Chip (DJ) to be on board, as well.

I'm a big fan of Basement Jaxx, but for some reason their live show just seems incredibly boring and extremely cheesy.

I would much rather see a DJ set, or something along the lines of a "live" DJ set type thing (ableton etc.). Their type of music just doesn't sound all that great with live drums and actual guitars. I know some people will hate on this but I really think EDM sounds better with controlled, tight structures.

Basement Jaxx Dropped By Label
Published Saturday, 29th August, 2009 at 12:22 PM

Basement Jaxx have been dropped by their record label, but the band are not so bothered.
The dance-duo, who have released such songs as 'Where's Your Head At?' and 'Oh My Gosh', have come to the end of their contract with XL Recordings after releasing five albums for the label (their last being next month's 'Scars'). And XL haven't renewed their deal with the pair.
But where some bands would be afraid of their future without the support and backing of a record company, Basement Jaxx appear to be unphased by the news, as Felix Buxton explains: "XL haven't offered us a new deal, but I didn't imagine they would."
"You don't need a record company now - they aren't so relevant. All you need is someone to distribute your music. Besides, you only make money through touring now".
'Scars' is released on 21st September (6th October in the U.S.).

HunterGather
