It is my belief that none of the following should ever be allowed to attend Coachella ever, either as a performer or as a fan.

Anyone that has ever been associated with Ed Banger Records, Radiohead, Jack Johnson, The White Stripes, Coldplay, John Mayer, Dane Cook, The Arcade Fire, System of a Down, Korn, Slipknot, Insane Clown Posse, Muse, the Kaiser Cheifs, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Bloc Party, Tom Petty, No Doubt, Death Cab for Cutie, Pendulum, Slightly Stoopid, the Strokes, Matisyahu, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, the Arctic Monkeys, Peaches, Paul Van Dyke, Filter.

Haha, yes. I don't want anyone that has ever appeared on a joke poster. Except Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch and Rockapella, of course.

Some of these have played recently but I'd hate for them to be one of the repeat acts. But yeah, also:
The Killers
Oasis
Coldplay
No Doubt
Manu Chao
Slightly Stoopid and similar acts
Fatboy Slim
Uffie
Metallica
Pearl Jam
Jay-Z
Green Day
Foo Fighters
Interpol (they were yawnsville)
Death Cab for Cutie (ditto)
British blue-eyed soul singers
Dance acts on the main stage, except for Daft Punk
Coheed and Thrice on Thursday
Primus
Kings of Leon
Kaiser Chiefs
Keane
Snow Patrol

I honestly can't name an act I wouldn't want at Coachella. Just give me two other acts to choose from while they are playing if it's an artist or band I don't enjoy. I wouldn't want to see Muse, Coldplay, Arcade Fire, or Pearl Jam in big bold white letters on the 2009 poster as headliners. It's not that I don't enjoy the artists, but reserve the big guns for bigger, more exciting acts. I want to be stunned by who they got for headliners and sub - headliners, and I'm sure the rest of you do too.

But I wouldn't object to most acts having a spot on a Coachella lineup, simply because there would be a story or experience for someone during their set. Save for the obvious i.e. Brochella

That's not true. There are lots of repeats I'd love to see again...

Sigur Ros, Kool Keith, At the Drive-in, Battles, Datarock, Modeselektor, Aphex Twin, Bjork, the Breeders, Spiritualized, Pedro the Lion, Squarepusher, Nine Inch Nails, New Order, Snow Patrol, Matmos, Spoon, MF Doom, Jane's Addiction, Ladytron, Spearhead, Amon Tobin, Iggy Pop, Fischerspooner... Really though, they're an excellent live band. I think it would be fine if they played again. Same with Sigur Ros and Radiohead. You know damn-well the lineup isn't going to be all first-time artists, so why not have some of the better ones back? Especially Sigur Ros because they wouldn't command a headlining spot.

I don't fucking care if it makes sense or not. I saw him and his voice sounded great. I listened to recordings, and it didn't sound great. However, I have never heard a professionally recorded Flaming Lips recording. I have only heard youtube clips, that must be taken into acount.

No any band that rely on an elaborate stage show cause they are terrible performers is gimmicky.

No. No that is not all they do. The ONLY song where everyone sings all the words is Yoshimi. The others songs he encourages sing alongs is the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah song and Free Radicals. Saw them in 92 opening for Jesus and Mary Chain and again in 93 with WAX. They were mind blowing back then.

Last year with all the lights and confetti and shit, well now they're just duper super ultra crazy mindfuckingly great.

saw them after soft bulletin, then three times after yoshimi. great every time, it's just a different feel now, but not all that different. I happen to love wayne's voice, it's one of my favorite parts about the band, especially on album. I remember popping in the soft bulletin the first time and thinking "is this guy serious?" and by "they're just humans with wives and children" being totally blown away.

you don't think the Smiths would sell it out instantly? Morrissey sold out like 5 shows at the palladium in LA by himself last year. I don't know I think it would sell out like RATM status. So when I compared them to RAGE I meant it in terms of selling out, and fans just being there for them. Then again a lot of the Smiths fans are already coachella goers.

those are all great groups, I don't think many are disputing that, it's just that they've all played fairly recently. To me, the beauty of Coachella is experiencing many new and different performers, not to keep recycling the same ones constantly. That being said, I wouldn't be upset if any of those groups played, just not overly excited at this moment.

Nonsense, I say aim for the stars. Last year we had Kraftwerk, Portishead and Prince in that order, the night before a massive Waters performance. Anything is possible.

On a side note, I'm all for Outkast but don't really get why they're so popular around here. A bit random considering the names that usually get tossed around. Do people really want a hip-hop headliner and have decided thats the best option?

If there was a hip-hop headliner it has to be Outkast or Jay-Z, maybe Tribe if paired with another top act.

sbessiso

Don't you remember how INSANELY popular outkast was?? They had so much more crossover success then someone like Jay-Z, whom I also love.

Between you and me, I would be so thrilled if Jigga played.

I also kinda sorta missed the Waters performance due to some godawful mushrooms that made me think I was going to die for like 20 minutes. I HEARD his first set, it sounded great, but missed all the visuals. I was laying down waaaay in the back. That night was FREEZING too!

U2 have some classics under their belt however I can't say I would enjoy them. Maybe for the fact of seeing them, but that's about it. So...without further ado...
No to:
Led Zeppelin (I think they would come off too much as a totem, drawing away the emphasis of the festival towards the mythos of their reappearance.)
Keane (just no...)
Travis (Ditto.)
Coldplay (Simply because Chris Martin knows every trick in the book to irritate the hell out of me)
Van Halen (lol)
Metallica (Jesus Christ no.)

and you know what, I'll say it. I'm gonna get a lot of flak but I really don't care.

The Chemical Brothers:

I don't think that the Chemical Brothers have released anything even halfway decent since the early 2000's and while admittedly it would be exhilarating to hear that material slamming in a live context, you know that they won't stick to it and it'll just be some horrid mash-up of the tired Big Beat revivalism that they have been forcing on the public in their new albums. I don't want it and I'll accept the verbal beatdown coming my way.
