Now we all know everyone loves Seinfeld and The X-Files, but this is pretty simple... your top ten favorite television shows that are currently making new episodes. 1. Psych
2. Burn Notice
3. Boston Legal
3. Dexter
4. The Colbert Report
5. The Daily Show
6. Lost
7. House
8. Californication
10. South Park

South Park started sucking about 3 seasons ago. And I used to LOVE that show.
It's just getting too dramatic.

1. Lost - because it is one of those shows that you just have to watch and think about.
2. Heroes - I just got into this one over the summer break but I can't wait for the new season to start.
3. Grey's Anatomy - Because I am a girl and I want to marry McDreamy.
4. Weeds - Gotta love a show about a drug dealing soccer mom.
5. Swingtwon - I got into this one over the summer, it's got to be one of the dirtiest shows on regular tv, besides the news that is.
6. Law & Order SVU - My old standby if nothing else is on.
7. The Big Bang Theory - The geeky white boys make me giggle.
8. How I met Your Mother - mindless entertainment
9. Americas Next Top Model - too see the pretty girls cry.
10. Most other reality tv just because it is like watching a train wreck.

OK my DVR is the devil.

in no particular order these are shows i like to watch...

lost
the universe
heroes
mad men
big love
entourage
californication
antiques roadshow
weeds
america's next top model / project runway / so you think you can dance (my guilty pleasures <3)
south park
curb your enthusiasm

my gripes though:

mad men needs to get less focused on beating us over the head that it's the early 60s and heroes needs to be more awesome in a lost way and actually have something surprising happen on the show. big love needs to actually make an episode for me to freaking watch; their breaks are as bad as lost.

I just wanted to second "Psych" just because no one else did. It's just so silly yet smart at the same time. The episode titles are priceless. (Example:"Meat is murder, but murder is also murder.")

Edit: if I have to fill out the list...in no particular order

The Office
30 Rock
Pushing Daisies (finally coming back after 9 months!)
Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job
Venture Brothers
Daily Show
Penn & Teller- Bullshit
Flight Of The Conchords (at least I hope they are making new episodes.)
The Soup

Runners up/Guilty Pleasures- Reaper, How I Met Your Mother.

Should have been on this list- Dexter. (Sorry...I got annoyed with it last year.)

Will hopefully be on this list soon- Dollhouse. (new Whedon show.)

My top 10 in no order

Speed's Formula 1
Setanta Sports Premier League
Livesoccertv's WCQ, PL

History Channel's Modern Marvels

4. Curb Your Enthusiasm
5. The Office (U.S.)
6. Weeds
7. Late Night with Conan O'Brien
8. The Soup
9. 30 Rock
10. Mythbusters

I know I'm probably missing a few.. I'll edit if I remember. I have a lot of guilty pleasures too. Heroes would be on there if Season 2 didn't suck so hard. Season 1 was so good. Hopefully Season 3 will make up for that. Same for Grey's Anatomy. That show dropped off at the end of Season 3 though.

Honorable mentions:

Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations
Chuck
24
Battlestar Galactica

I used to love Mythbusters, but they must have gotten a new producer this year. It seems way too scripted now, everyone seems uncomfortable.

I forgot Anthony Bourdain- No Reservations. It kind of depends on where he is, though.

Weirdest thing I watch regularly- Sunrise Earth. It's very calming.

http://www.goats.com/store/images/shirt_ninja.png

it's a Japanese game show that puts contestants throught a near impossible obstacle course in which one would need ninja-like skills of speed, strength and dexterity to complete. The day starts with 100 contestants trying the first stage. Usually less than 10 make it to stage 2. After that is stage 3 and if there's anyone left (usually only 1 or 2 contestants make it this far) there's the final stage. Each season, only 1 or two people actually finish the fourth stage. The American show "Wipeout" is loosely LOOSELY based on this show. Wipeout is for shits and giggles. People are reduced to tears on Ninja Warrior.

I liked Alice in the first seasons but she got a little weird there for awhile. Yeah it could definately be better written, I was disapointed that they dropped the one dude that got caught recording the girls and who fell in love with Shane after the second season and never really finished that story with him. Same with the chick/dude that was going after the straight sister. Season to season they lose some story lines.

By "bleaked out", do you mean feeling depressed and dreary? I can see that. When I was younger it used to bother me how the show portrayed people who smoke, but I got over that.

from wiki:

# Season 7 (2009) — Currently in production stages. Cheryl Hines has confirmed that she will be returning to the show.[2] It has been confirmed that the principal cast of Seinfeld will be appearing together in several episodes.[3] It was also reported in the April 27, 2009 issue of People Magazine that Vivica A. Fox will be returning to the series. In response as to whether she would be Larry's wife on the show, all she says is "Larry David is my man! And I am still making his life chaotic."

I am glad Cheryl is coming back. I hope her and Larry get back together.

"Chris died for you" isnt a spoiler. You said you have seen the first two seasons... that is referencing one of the very first episodes of the series. The episode is called Fashion of the Christ and I'm not sure how my original post is all about me. I was saying I like weeds, but i also think the first three seasons are funnier than the last. Now we all know everyone loves Seinfeld and The X-Files, but this is pretty simple... your top ten favorite television shows that are currently making new episodes. This isn't meant to just be a list orgy, but more of a place for people who maybe the disillusioned with new television to find about shows that might not suck... feel free to include why the shows you like are so awesome.

Friday Night Lights (brilliantly acted, written and directed show that no one watches)

30 Rock (this season's been a mixed bag, but I still absolutley love it)

Big Love (best thing HBO's done since The Sopranos)

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (never fails to make me laugh)

Curb Your Enthusiasm (God bless Larry David)

Mad Men (duh)

Parks & Recreation (really come into its own this season; better than The Office now.)

The PBS News Shows - PBS Newshour, Washington Week, Frontline (the last bastion of great broadcast journalism. So sad to see Bill Moyers go, though)

Never Mind the Buzzcocks (have the Brits made a great sitcom since The Office? I dunno, but they still make great celebrity panelist quiz shows. Always delights; even if some of the Brit pop culture references go over my head. Wish Simon Amstell would come back, though!)

The Daily Show (duh)

They started to get overly cute with Patrick Jane's character. He was always kinda smug and playful which was part of the endearing nature of the show, but they have overdone it recently and the way he interacts with everyone and does everything in this ridiculously cavalier manner is silly.

Chuck aside, I have to agree with BlackSwan. It really does seem that this is a golden age of television; especially for dramas. I mean look back at the last 5-10 years of American television; I don't think you can find a period prior to this in which there was a larger concentration of such fine work. Thank goodness for audience fragmentation (and the rise of basic cable). I'm sure HBO isn't thrilled about it, but their influence if everywhere.

That's a bit silly, isn't it? FNL is a great show, but it never found a big enough audience. And it was never, you know, a "sexy" concept. That probably hurt it too. But, wait, what happened? Did they not finish this last season? I don't have DirecTV so I'm waiting until NBC re-airs the eps.

Take it down a notch, man. I'm a huge FNL fan, but I'm also pragmatic. NBC fucked up the initial marketing of the show and they never recovered from that, but they did keep the show on the air longer than they had to. It easily could have been a one season show. I'm not disputing the fact that is a very well written and beautifully acted show. But you can't deny that a show about "family" and "football" in "small town Texas" is going to fail to generate much buzz.

Anyway, NBC isn't going to reair it? Lame. Guess I'm going to have to wait for the DVD.

Jesus, Menik. You're really bitter about this. Look, I've been to two football games in my life and at one of them I was singing. I have zero interest in football, Texas or teenage angst. I don't blame you all for getting that impression of the show, though. Dawson's Creek set in small town Texas was exactly what I thought it was before I'd seen it. It's also nothing like the film, if you're familiar with it.

The setting is not what attracts people to the show. It's the writing, the acting and the directing. It's not flashy, there are no gimmicks ala Lost, there's no tie in to comic book culture. It's all about the quality of the writing, the acting and the directing. It is, by far, the most naturalistic and realistic television depiction I've seen of the minutia of every day life. It feels so real and lived in. So authentic. Every single character in the large cast is etched out so beautifully. Menik and I are hardly alone on this. I don't think you'll find a network tv drama that's ever had more critical acclaim. I know, I know. Critics schmiticks, but still...

SLATE:
Not since HBO's The Wire has a show juggled so many conflicting and diverse issues like race, money, and class with such staggering insight. It pains me to think the country has not embraced these well-developed characters and, not to mention, the superb handheld camera work that creates the raw aesthetic world in which these emotionally rattled individuals dwell.

Wall Street Journal:
This saga of the embattled efforts of Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) to lead the team his way, of the determination of his wife, Tami (Connie Britton), to see that the high school she runs (she's the principal) has the wherewithal to teach its students, enlarges to include an astounding variety of characters. They're young, middle-aged and old, rich, middle-class and dirt poor, and the script provides ways of knowing each of them -- not just in passing. It's not often that television with a scope so novelistic -- so ambitious -- comes along, and not often, either, that it yields drama so sterling.

NY Times:
Lord, is “Friday Night Lights” good and not just television great, but great in the way of a poem or painting, great in the way of art with a single obsessive creator who doesn’t have to consult with a committee and has months or years to go back and agonize over line breaks and the color red; it could belong in a league with art that doesn’t have to pause for commercials, or casually recap the post-commercial action, or sell viewers on the plot and characters in the first five minutes, or hew to a line-item budget, or answer to unions and studios, or avoid four-letter words and nudity.

And the fact that Peter Berg wrote and directed the premiere of “Friday Night Lights” within the confines of television production — network television production, at that — means that it’s certainly great.

Really? I was a bit skeptical when season 4 started with so many new characters but they quickly won me over. Such a talented cast. Jurnee Smollett gave such a lovely, soulful performance as the young matriarch of her family. Matt Lauria as the good-hearted farmer's son? How could you not love that kid? And the old characters did some of their finest work. Taylor Kitsch finally having a relationship with a woman that wasn't about sex, Aimee Teegarden blossoming into a more mature, determined young woman. Zach Gilford dealing with the death of his father. And of course, Britton and Chandler; what an amazing depiction of a marriage.

You're watching it wrong.

No. Party Down really isnt that funny. I love these types of shows and the cast is great but it just falls flat.

I even worked in the service industry in the Hamptons growing up, so I should relate to these characters, but it's just not funny.

the first five eps of Californication this season are pretty fucking bad. sure, there are some moments, but overall..they are overreaching this season, imo.

I'm a big fan of Ken Marino, and anyone that had anything to do with The State, and even Paul Rudd... but I didn't think Party Down was funny either. Sorry.

High five, Fancy! (Although, I've only watched the pilot episode. They pulled it from Netflix Instant shortly thereafter)
